Hello all. New to the forum, also a new owner of an 09 Sante Fe AWD.
Bought the car from a private seller a few weeks ago. It was a great deal, low miles at a good price. A few days after getting it registered the Check Engine Light comes on. I bring it to AutoZone and plug in the code scanner and it returns a P0441 code. A quick google search says this is typically a bad gas cap seal, or a purge control valve. At this point, I had also been noticing a slight fuel smell when I first started the car, but it cleared up once I began driving.
I replaced that gas cap and drove it for 30 miles or so. The CEL did not clear.
At this point I ordered an OEM replacement purge control valve and replaced that a few days ago. It was a smooth installation. The old one was definitely bad as I could blow through it so I thought it would be case closed and fixed..
Now that I have replaced the purge valve, there is a terrible gas smell that does not go away when driving at all. There is no gas smell from under the hood where the valve is, but when I climb down under the car it is very distinct underneath the vehicle. I'm not too familiar with EVAP systems at all with the exception of what I have learned googling the last few days. Are there any other known evap issues on these cars? Are the hoses known to go bad? Filler neck? I need to get the emissions passed in the next 2 weeks.
Thanks in advance!
