WTF, I can't shift gears!

Last night driving home, my paddle shifters stopped working. What's even worse is that I can't even change gears in sports mode with the gear shifter. I checked the owners manual to see if there was a fuse for the manual/paddle shifter, but couldn't find anything. I guess I'll have to take it to the dealer to get fixed. I'm PO'd though, because I use the paddle shifters all the time.
Anyone else ever have this problem?

Nope. I really don't use the paddles much unless I'm trying to save a little gas by upshifting. They've always worked fine though.

I think the 2.0t is a very able engine, and the six speed transmission really brings out a lot. Having said that, trying to "manually" shift this car has been beyond disappointing. From day one mine has a horrible lag shifting up, won't consistently hold a gear, and just generally seems out of sync with how one would shift this car if it was a true manual (which I so wish they would offer).

I usually just put my foot in it and let the computer decide. I could do better with manual inputs, but the paddle shifters/shift lever don't really allow for that.

Paddle shifters on a Sonata turbo with auto six speed.... Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. At least you have a nice warranty.
Yah, it's a real disaster in the mountains when I want to hold a gear while cruise control is on. Keeps the transmission and engine from excessive shifting and hunting for gears which lessens wear on the powertrain, we really hate it.

I took delivery of mine last November, and I have had the paddles replaced twice. Most recently was in September.

Both times the dealer had to take the car in for an hour, did some tests, and ordered the parts. Installation took only a couple of hours each time, but your whole console needs to be removed. Prepare to re-set your radio settings.

I can't remember what the diagnosis was, but the paddles are quite flimsy, and the connections could break if you like "flipping" the paddles. Mine were broken when trying to downshift from 3 to 2...and got stuck on reading "3".

The first time I never got to see any numbers on the display. Always "D".

The second time I was able to get the display to show anything from 1 to 6, by shifting the gearshift to +/-. And it stuck in that particular gear.

I think the second replacement paddles were a bit more sturdy, but just remember, do not flip your paddles. Give them a solid pull and they should last for a while.

Good luck guys!

IMPO the paddles are useless. You really can't shift properly with them since, especially while turning. The stick shifter is a better option for me if I feel the need but the auto does a better job.

So I took the car into the dealer yesterday, and they think I need new paddle shifters. The parts will be in next Wednesday. I still don't understand why the sport-manual mode doesn't work with the gear shifter though. I thought the problem would have been in the computer/tcm.
Just to clarify, I hardly ever use the shifters for up shifting, it's mainly just downshifting. Either when I'm coming to a stop, or when I pull up behind a slower car in front of me. It's great when I downshift to slowdown before I can pass the car, then downshift again when I go to pass! Passing is probably my favorite part about driving the car. It just picks up speed so fast when your already going 50 - 60 mph!
