I've done some research about this so I can answer your question.

I called Hyundai and asked if my warranty will be voided if I installed a viper remote starter/alarm system...The guy I spoke to said as long as the new system did not cause any problems my warranty will still be intact.

You might also want to know that a big company like Viper (which owns a lot of other car audio/video equipment companies) will not honor their warranty if you install the system yourself. The system must be installed by one of their authorized dealers and the authorized dealer has to validate the warranty.

Good Luck

I had an Astro Start brand installed in my 06 Sonata LX with the deal at purchase. Unit retails for around $400 installed. I love it. Winters get chilly in North Dakota/summers hot! Remote key fob replaces factory unit, but factory one also will work. It just won't start the car. Also had the same type unit on my 02 Grand Am for several years. They are great and easy to use.
Certainly would not recommend such a large task done by yourself.!!

I've had several contacts with Hyundai USA over the same type of question regarding a trailer hitch and wiring. It was my clear understanding that no matter who installs the equiptment, if it's After Market and not made by Hyundai, and it fails and causes a problem to the car, that problem will not be covered by the warantee. So it doesn't void the whole warantee, but any damage caused by your add on will render the warantee useless on that particular issue.

Whether or not your After Market add on has to be installed by an authorized dealer for their particular warantee I imagine is on a company by company basis.

Trust me, Hyundai has covered themselves quite well in legal terms. I couldn't even get transfered to a supervisor or technical person to get better info on a recommended trailer hitch and wiring set up, even though trailer hitches are covered over several pages in the manual.

I've had remote starters installed on many new vehicles over the years and never had a problem. However every dealer always gives the same "it will void the warranty" speech. I completely understand the idea of a specific problem voiding a specific part which still complies with the "Magnusson-Moss". The gray area is that Hyundai is saying the ENGINE is directly involved with the starter. So if the engine has a problem, they can blame the remote starter??

Any feedback? Anyone have to service their car under warranty that has a remote starter installed?

Thank You
