So I took my 2016 Sonata SE in with a check engine light and ECM update notification from dealer. Check engine light 3 weeks ago, update notification received one week ago (hmmm).
The update was performed and they told me the check engine light was the "intake manifold runner".
The language from the receipt read:
PERFORM COMPLIMENTARY MULTI POINT INSPECTION
UPON PERFORMING COMPLIMENTARY VEHICLE INSPECTION, TECH FOUND
VEHICLE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. TECH PERFORMED HEALTH CHECK FOUND P2OOAOO CODE PRESENT IN RELATION TO INTAKE MANIFOLD.
TECH RECOMMENDS CUSTOMER HAVE FURTHER TEAR DOWN AUTHORIZED.
CUSTOMER DECLINES FURTHER ACTION AT THIS TIME AND STATES WILL RETURN.
They said the fix was $950 which I asked him to repeat.
I left dealership.
So... The car runs smoothly and I drive with the egg between foot and pedal ideal and feel the car is fine. Sluggish on startup till RPMs settle after 10 or so seconds but never into limp mode highway etc.
So... I gather the manifold movement "flap" is not stuck and it is likely the VCM that has failed at the minimum.
I will defer to a local mechanic but would my best course of action be to have them replace the VCM and notify me of any other concerns?
Any opinions welcome.
