Dont waste your time.. drain the radiator, and there is an accesible block drain plug on the firewall side of block.. this will get the better part of the coolant out.. then refill with new mixed coolant

 

from everything i've read, you only get a few gallons (if that) from the radiator petcock. apparently the 2.7 has two block drain plugs, one for each bank, but on certain models it's really hard to get to b/c the starter is in the way etc. any idea where a picture might be of the underside of the 2.7, or the location of those drain plugs? google is NO help whatsoever lol

 

Block drain plug for bulkhead side of block is out in open, has a 14mm hex head on it.. note they is usually pretty tight in the block from never being used as a source for drianing more coolant.. most will come out, use an impact swivel socket, and lonlg extension, and a 1/2 drive breaker bar..

Plug on radiator side is behind starter, right besdie the crank position sensor, not a lot of room to work that plug if it is stuck in the block. L dont mess with it.. we dont get a lot for coolant change.

Before install of drain plug, use some PERMATEX pipe thread sealer in squeeze bottle,, looks like toothpaste... I have tube of the 592 as it it called out for use on a bunch of fastenetrs on my YAMAHA PWC.. Put the plug in the block and snug it up,, dont go majorly torqueing it, it'll be major PIA to remove next time around (it is a tapered pipe plug).

so the plug by the crank sensor, leave it be? i assume the majority would come out with the radiator plug and the block plug. i'm not sure i have that 14mm hex, i'll have to buy it the day before. any idea if a product like Prestone Super Flush is worth it? the car has 75k on it, and was last changed at 25k (when i bought the car). it would be easy to drain and refill, but the flush procedure would be worth it if there's noticable rust or something i guess?

weird how the owner's manual just says to drain the rad and then refill. they don't even mention to two block plugs...

 

okay so i drained the rad, ran running water through it, and refilled. car running as normal, except now i have a pretty nice coolant leak from SOMEWHERE that's spraying all over when the fans kick on (hit 80 for the first time today). i removed the plastic shroud underneath the radiator, and the drain plug is snug, except it looks like the bushings on either side are soaked with coolant. since i don't know where it started from,... wtf happened??? any ideas??

 

update: when i drained the old coolant, and filled it up with water to run it and flush all the crap out, i forgot to turn the heater on so a huge air pocket formed and destroyed my radiator. to much pressure i guess. new radiator, two new hoses, a thermostat and a proper flush and fill at the shop = serious $$$. lesson learned.

 

that is a really interesting thought. with no air, the cap is what 14-16 lbs. but if you have a lot of air pressurized by water over the boiling point it destroys things before the cap can vent it ? any physics majors out there ?
