Uneven Tire Wear

Our 08 Santa Fe is showing marked wear on the outer edge of the passenger side front tire. We have only completed 14,000km on Kumhco 235/65R17 tires running at 32psi. A wheel alignment diagnosis showed no real misalignment present. The tech inspecting the car said that there doesn't appear to be any adjustment possible for camber anyway. Apart from doing a tire rotation and sharing the problem around all four tires has anyone else experienced a similiar problem and found the solution?.
thanks for your help

I'll include alignment specs below
REAR
camber L 1 degree 04 min
R 1 degree 20 mins

TOE L -0.2mm
R - 3.2mm
FRONT
caster L 4' 40''
R 4' 37''
camber L - 0' 33''
R - 0' 47''
TOE L + 0.2 mm
R + 1.0mm

that's quite a bit of positive camber you got on both rear wheels. That is not good, both for tire wear and, more importantly, handling. I am sure there are ways to adjust camber. It may be non-adjustable off the assembly line, so it might involve replacement part(s) that allow for it. A competent shop should know how to go about it. For example, on the VW GTI I had, the front camber is adjusted by replacing one of the two MacPherson strut lower mounting bolts with an undersized one. One allowed for 1-2deg of adjustment, two would double that.

I have lifetime alignment contract at the local Firestone Service shop. I believe they did adjust camber at one corner the first time I had them check the SF. Don't remember which corner.

The SF doesn't come with a camber adjustment from the factory, but there are a number of aftermarket kits available to make this possible. While they are normally used for someone trying to lift a SF, they're usable at the factory height as well. You can score a kit for $30 or less.

Granted, this shouldn't be necessary, but the OP isn't the first one to encounter this.

To the OP - you haven't done anything strange that would change the nominal weight of the vehicle, have you?

Edit: Hmm.. just looked and was surprised Eibach doesn't seem to have a kit for the more recent vintage SF yet, but does for Sonata and Tucson. Would have been my first choice for a supplier.

so far we have only transported passengers, however it was a originally a factory owned vehicle so i can't really suggest prior history. It had no towing hitch when we purchased it.
thanks for all your suggestions - dave

My bad... I thought the front was already adjustable. That's the only kit I've seen.
FYI i've had 2 alignments and 500km after the intial post. After tire rotation the wear pattern doesn't seem to be reappearing on the front passenger tire  . I was told with AWD that rear wheel alignment will affect front end wear patterns. As such I've gone with 2 mm of pos toe on the rear and 0.5mm of neg toe for the (mainly) front drive wheels. Camber on the front is neg 0.5 degree and I am now running 36psi on all tires. While camber is not adjustable on front the alignment tech suggests camber bolts can be fitted as previous posters suggested (thanks). Interested in getting the views from the forum although I know this ain't a sexy topic.

I noticed slightly uneven wear on two of my original tires after 30,000 km.... unfortunately after they were removed so I don't know where they were.

My plan is to rotate the new tires (Michelin XCs) regularly and keep an eye out for any signs of uneven wear. The last thing I want to do is ruin brand-new rubber.

Wow! Your shop adjusted every one of them. Mine only adjusted the ones that were a bit far off and left the others alone. My report did show the target range though. I will have to dig it out and scan & post it.

thanks Volfy I would be interested in your alignment specs. At over $1000 for 4 replacement tires I want to get this right and not replace tires with 20K on them.

Attempting to find out if I have to buy all four tires. Had a nail in a rear tire, they are worn but the fronts are good. Tire dealer says that I have to buy four because of "all wheel drive". If I understand Santa Fe four wheel drive it runs in two wheel drive mode most of the time unless you engage the four wheel system. Even with a center diff I dont understand why I cant have two equal tires on front and slightly different ones in back.
Can anyone respond with the facts?
Thanks
