Undercarriage fibre shield under driver seat

Hi
I just found out it that some part of my driver side undercarriage fibre shield is broken and hanging after a long 1700km long weekend trip. It seems like i ripped if off on drive way curb or something.
Has anyone had a experience or suggestion how to fix it cheap and make it work. ?

Pick up some 3M spray adhesive for interior trim and try that.

i called dealer's parts dept, they took my vin and told me this shield is 2 piece part front and back, both around $200, i told him i'm looking at the part and it is one piece for the whole side. but he would not give me part number. every time i call my local dealer, i get my opinion of not ever dealing with them confirmed.

yes There are pieces each side and he quoted me $278 for one front piece. anyways i didn't get much chance lately to look into to fix it,
Do you think a 3M spray adhesive will hold it back for long time ? considering we have -30 Celcius cold on a usual day of winter.

if i had mine split like that i would remove it first, than i would use rubberized undercoat spray as a glue, and than wait till it dries a bit, and i'd spray the whole thing on both sides, but in my case i have ripped a hole there about 2 feet long and 5-8 inches long, i will have to use some similar material to glue over it, and than i'll spray undercoat on both sides. i used this stuff before on my old car, i coated entire underside with it, it held up pretty good, and we do get cold winters in ny. not -30c however, a bit lower, normally rubberized undercoating is not meant to be used as glue, but it does stick to stuff pretty good. also in your case i'd use good old needle and dental flos and do dozen or two stitches before coating the whole thing, it should help to hold it together. just get one that drys up completely, some stay sticky forever. any auto parts store should have them. if i have a chance i'll do mine this weekend.

I liked your idea. I glued it together with job weld marine epoxy to glue and now
I am gonna use some fiber mat with undercoat asphalt spray. You think that a good idea. ?
It's weird that asphalt undercoat is chepaer vs rubberized asphalt undercoat. Are both things work same?
And have you done your repair ? What you gonna use or have used to patch the area?

So I just got took off the undercarriage off. And it seems like I can fix it. I am
Gonna use some zip ties to hold while Gluing it with epoxy marine waterproof glue. But I am so pissed because I find out there is no undercarriage protection spray underneath (on car body). I paid $399 to dealership for undercoating (that's where I bought my vehicle,a Chevy dealership ). They never took undershield off to spray inside. Thy just sprayed around and on wheel area. Is that how undercoating suppose to be done?
Can anyone help with suggestion.

That job was for 80$, not 400$.
I've had the experience when I was bying a used Corolla from a diller and they offered the antirust treatment for 400$. So when I got the car I went to the mecanic one of my frends recomended me just to check the car just in case. So when we lifted up the car, I was could see myself how I was screwed up.
It's better go to specialised on anturust services or a trasted mecanic for that kind of job. IMO.

yea, i did mine, but i ended up doing it a lot simpler, i did it in a shop while changing oil, i put a piece of linoleum between the shield and the body,did not even have to remove the shield, only took 1 bolt out, where two halves meet, and slid the linoleum in between, than screwed the bolt back. than i sprayed rubberized coating over the hole. so the patch is now glued to the shield.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but on the passenger side shield on my Sonata, one of the clips that holds this panel on popped off.


There is like a round recessed pocket on the shield that fits over a stud coming out of the unibody ( https://i.imgur.com/lKCe0mC.png ), and some nut or clip holds it on. Does anyone know that part number, or at least what size threads a nut would be?

Also just want to voice my disappointment that this thing is made of paper. It will obviously not stand up to a typical Canadian winter, as I'm pretty sure some snow that the plow put in front of my driveway is what tore it in the first place.


Where it mounts up by front wheel, a bolt holds both it and the fender/wheel well liner into the unibody, there is only a lip of around 1/2 inch of paper around the bolt preventing it from being torn off that bolt completely. Once it comes off 1 bolt it will flap around and tear itself off the others since it's only made of paper. Even if they had some metal/plastic tabs around all of the holes for bolts/clips it would at least prevent from tearing itself off.


I did find out that my dealership has to order the clip in, so this evening I'll go to the hardware store and get a nut/washer to hold it in place til then. I'll post the thread size later in case this happens to anyone else and they need a DIY fix to limp somewhere.



Anyway just thought it was disappointing because for the most part I've been impressed by how the car was engineered.

They are primarily for aerodynamics (fuel economy) but also help protect under carriage parts from debris ect.

They are not expensive if you go with aftermarket pats and are easy install
