Tucson Intermittent Vibration

Hi Fellow Tucson owners!

I have a 2006 2.0 litre which overall we love. Recently it's begun an intermittent mid-speed vibration which feels like it's in the front end. Tires look good and the dealer can't find anything (of course it doesn't vibrate when we take it in). The vibration can get quite pronounced (scares my wife). I can't think of a thing than might cause this... anyone have any clues?

Dear kwoolf,

I had a similar problem with a Santa Fe. Inspect your wheels on the inside rim and outside rim for any MISSING wheel weights. Second, inspect for any big clumps of dirt, road tar, or asphalt that may be stuck to the inner rim of the wheel.
Try rotating your tires from front to rear. did the vibration more to the rear? Have your tire balance checked.

Yeah, I've pretty much done and inspected what you both suggest. Can't figure what might cause such fierce vibration followed by complete calm. It might go days between vibration and then vibrate hard for 20 or 30 minutes which seems to gradually fade away. It's in the shop today for a service so is getting a tire rotation. I'm hoping this might solve the problem.

I have the same problem with an intermittent vibration. 06 Tucson 4wd Limited. 69K miles. Tires were replaced 18 mo ago with top of line Michelines. Vibration started a few months ago, At 68+ mph the vehicle has a 1-2 second intermittent vibration. I feel it up the steering wheel and the entire vehicle shakes. i.e. Vibration (1-2 sec)......no vibration 1-2 sec......vibration (1-2 sec)......no vibration 1-2 sec.......and so on. It's rhythmic, intermittent and relentless. It happens on straight road, curves, uphill, downhill, accel or coasting. I'd almost believe it was a wheel balance issue except for it being intermittent. Just to humor myself I've had the tires balanced (twice), and an alignment done (twice). Still have the intermittent vibration, completely unchanged and uneffected by my efforts.

Any ideas what to do next?

I have a similar problem with my Tucson 2005 GLS 2.7L awd. My vibration starts at approximately 70 mph and I had the tires balanced 4 times. I'm having my transmission replaced after which I will persue this problem starting with the wheels, tires and work my way in. Whats funny under 65 mph it drives just fine.
If I'm lucky enough to find he cause I'll post it.
If you have any updates please share.

If it turns out that vibration does not go away after the tires are balanced/aligned, it could be the brake rotors are warped. Had this problem with my Nissan Quest.
Thanks Slang
Rotors are on my list just in case. I'm also having the dealer check suspension & drive line components for wear or damage.

Hi fellow Tucson owners.
Just my curiosity how did you make out. I got rid of my Yokohama Z treads and put on Hankook Optimo H727 tires.
My dealer has a Hunter GSP 9700 balance machine. The tires were mounted and Road Force Balanced and the vibration is gone. There are other facilities that have the Hunter balancers besides some dealers and there should be one in your area.

Intermittent Vibration 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe

Feeling intermittent vibration. At low speeds it is very radical like a tire that has gone flat very quickly. At high speeds, it is like a tire is out of balance. Have replaced both front and rear tires, had alignment twice and balance twice. Had rear brakes and rear rotors replaced recently. Still having intermittent vibration. No rhyme or reason to timing of vibration. Vibration is felt not in steering wheel but in seats. Was at dealer and, of course, they said that it sounded like a tire that was out of balance and did nothing that corrected it. Any ideas?
