My traction control light came on today. Anybody else have this issue? I searched and didn't find much. Guess I gotta call the dealer. Anybody know why it might have come on?

Background info: 30k miles, purchased may 2010.

x2 to the brake switch. Had the same problem with just the light at first; was intermittent as well. Then the car had problems starting. I can't personally how the traction control light ties into the brake switch, but somehow it does and the dealers are well aware of the problem.

scan the pcm, tcm and abs/esc modules for codes.. Matter of fact, have the dealer do it.

anybody else have this issue?
1 side affect of brake light switch circuit fault

guess i gotta call the dealer.
yep, 5yr/60,000 warranty

anybody know why it might have come on?
yes, any number of reasons, all kinds of inputs and outputs that is monitored for function/logic.. Scan will recover code that lead i direction of problem circuit.

5yr/60,000 warranty period, let hyundai deal with it :d

This happened once to me. Lights were on 'auto' and they stayed on when it was bright out, and my TC light was on. Went away after shutting the car down. I wrote it off as a one off situation... I'll have to bring it to the dealer's attention when I go for my last free oil change...

Sonata Break Switch issue

I am taking my Hyunday 2011 Sonata into the dealership to have them look at the Traction Control light coming on. I am also experiencing a few times where I could not get the car to go into gear. Normally you have to press on the brake then put the cart into gear. My brake seems immovable as I press on it. Eventually though it releases then you can press the brake and put the car into gear. This makes sense that there is an issue with the Brake switch. Anyone else seeing the issue getting the car into gear?

Probably the shift lock release mechanism. Easy fix I'm sure. I had that on an 04 Mountaineer when the car was literally one week old and less than 500 miles. They towed it back to the dealer.

Light already been on, code stored.. go get it scan w/GDS and let them make repair and physically go in and clear code after repair.

Bluelink.. I called them to get what info they had to compare against what I might find.. they not very smart, phone bank people I suspect.. fella tried to give me rough meaning of the code, had to ask him a few times for the actual code they recovered so I knew what they has as opposed to what I might find.

GDI Scan

Happy Friday and my apologies for bumping this old thread.

I have similar issue on my 2012 GLS AT @45K miles. ESC light is on, brake lights function properly, replaced brake switch 2 wks ago with original part, issue persists.

Three questions:
1. Dealer quoted $150 for scan - it seems a little much to me. Is it reasonable cost?
2. Can pcm, tcm, abs/esc modules be scanned only at dealership due to proprietary diagnostic equipment / software?
3. If scanning tool is not proprietary - is there a reasonably priced scanner I can buy?

Traction control light for me also, no other lights.

I was concerned that my car felt as if it was going into limp mode also. Didn't have time to research so I dropped it off at the dealer Sunday evening with a scheduled appt on Tuesday morning. Service adviser called Tuesday morning, suspecting the switch as the problem and I OKed the repair. After a little research, I found 3 brake light switch related recalls with the exact same symptoms. Left a message for my service adviser about the recalls and requested the repairs be made under one of the recalls. When he called back, he said that my car wasn't covered, the repair was completed and the total was $138. I argued that it was a known issue and should be covered. Nope, after a little back and forth, had to pay.

Called Hyundai customer service, explained the situation. Was again told about the recalls but since I had already paid, they claimed they couldn't help and passed me along to the reimbursement dept. Again, sorry, cant help, not a recall and was basically told to kick rocks. Transferred to the escalations dept, where people like me are told in nice words to F-off and we don't care. from there, they all but refused to transfer me to anyone else higher in the complaint food chain.

Obviously, by this time, I hate everything Hyundai. Posted my rant on the Hyundai FB page about the known safety issue, how irresponsible it is to not cover a known safety issue, I would not be buying a 4th Hyundai and would be selling my Hyundai for the safety of my family. I received a call from Hyundai Consumer Affairs within 30 mins, and issued a refund.....because its a safety issue and the dealer should have covered it, no questions asked.

The repair is not the switch, its the rubber boot(?) that covers the switch. its made from a soft material and its replaced with a harder material that won't wear as quickly.

its a $1.43 piece of rubber that the dealers charge $138 to repair....total BS.

Oh, and they were nice enough to replace my clock spring for the airbag light...claiming that i had an airbag light on. Um, no, I dont and you replaced the clock spring 6 months ago under the recall. pretty sure this "repair" was padding someone's pockets.

If we are talking the same piece, its the "stopper" on the other end of the white push pin in the switch mounted to the pedal itself. Its now a plastic "button" that snaps into place and Hyundai wants FOUR bucks for what is probably a nickel piece.
