I fell that my TB positions sensor is bad i am getting different info of the net........... i hear a clicking noise from the TB area is that a good thing or bad? also is ours adjustable? and can anyone chime in on how to replace the part i see the screws and the connector but that seems too easy is there any calibration i need to do?

There's no adjustment/calibration for the TPS. It's a simple potentiometer (variable resistor). The TPS should make no sounds. That doesn't mean one of the other actuators on the throttle body won't, just that the TPS won't.

You can test the the TPS by disconnecting the electrical connector & measuring the resistance across the pot. Opening & closing the throttle plate will change the resistance. You'll need an ohm meter & and a spec for the TPS both closed & wide open (WOT). This will be provided in the Hyundai Service manual. It may be provided in the Haynes or Chilton manuals.

Good Luck.

thanks for the info i bought a new sensor already for 40 bucks from the dealer, do i just take the screws out and put the new one in? i mean its that simple, also can anyone link me on the specs for the TPS resistance's? ive looked at HMA service and i got slightly confused thanks in advance

Yes, P161B is a real code and I do have listings for the other codes:

P2106 = Throttle Actuator Control System malfunction has occurred and engine is in Limp-Home mode
See TSB 07-36-006, 09-FL-003-1 and 09-FL-003-2

P1295 = ETC (Electronic Throttle Control Valve) malfunction

P161B = Internal Control Module Torque Calculation Performance: actual torque is higher than the desired torque (possible causes: Intake air leakage, Faulty ETS System, Clogged exhaust system, Faulty PCM

i know what the codes mean i just want to figure out if it is the tps or the actual assembly! The throttle body assembly is like 290 brand new and the TPS is 40!! and the CEL only comes on when the car is around 5-6k rpm so anyone know which one it is or do i just have to try each one??

Why don't you just put the new sensor in and see if it works?
the throttle body assembly has the sensor built in so its like 290 the sensor i have is 45 no returns if it has been put in the vehicle so if that doesn't cure it i would have wasted 45 bucks but if no one knows i will have to!!

The codes don't necessarily tell you exactly what is wrong or needs to be replaced they give you a starting point to do some diagnostic work. You should look on hmaservice to see if they give you the proper diagnostic procedure for those codes and follow them. That is the only way to be sure you are replacing the right part.

[Tip 3]
- If P1295 and P2106 occur at the same time, first check ETC items(TPS or ETC motor etc).

I have done that already i have these two codes at the same time along with p161B it says to check the electronic throttle control items the throttle positioning sensor or the electronic throttle control motor aka the TB & assembly...............Someone correct me if im wrong!

Your questions have been somewhat answered, and it was suggested you try putting in the new part. Why not get back to us

once you do this? In the mean time I have opened up this discussion for the entire Forum to read as the 3.3 Engine is shared

among other Models as well. Was that not ok?
well do you think that every owner of the 3.3 lambda thats in the sonata Veracruz and Azera are gonna go hunting and browsing all around the forum for a non model specific question? also my post about the CAI i made and the problems that i encountered got moved from the sonata forum to the DIY every time my posts get moved the activity just stalls and shuts down. This my friend is ridiculous. I don't think that many people have enough time to browse the 4g sonata board and then hunt allover the forum for pics of wheels, suspension, DIY and other topics. Hey, maybe im totally wrong here, but this is a place to get help, learn and to have fun!

ANYWAY
i did replace the part and the limp home mode did go away and has not done it again but i really cant tell if it is truly fixed since the car would only act strange randomly in the high rpms only when it was cold, and the past few days its been warmer

I have heard similar observations from others. Your post was moved but not deleted. A simple search

will bring up this information and I left a link for you too on 4G. Not all questions can be answered here.

This is a technical problem that we can only speculate about. Perhaps you should take it in under Warranty if applicable.

You got some great advice in 4G. Since the Engine is used in other Models, I thought other members might want to contribute

Let us see how your Car is now operating. This is not a common problem to our model, or the 3.3 Lambda as far as I know.

i replaced the tps and the car still does the same thing, then got an entire assembly with the tps and the throttle body in one popped that in and still the same thing, its like when i down shift and nail it the car speeds up and then randomly will just go into limp home mode, today i was on the highway down shifted to 2nd gear got to a good speed shifted up to 3rd then to 4th and then boom limp home!! this is driving me crazy i dont know what to do anymore!!

the only other thing i can think of from hma service is intake leak, bad maf, bad map, or bad ecu

I would think you'd see an intake leak show up as much if not more at closed-throttle positions (cruising) due to higher engine vacuum, so I would look elsewhere. Personally, I'd be leaning toward the MAP (didn't know there was one in the Sonata), or I would clean the MAF. Still, if the MAF was faulty, you'd have starting/idle issues, which you don't have.

One final thought - if you have a bad vacuum line (split or crack) that opens under hard acceleration, that may be the culprit. You can check this by getting some spray throttle body cleaner and spraying around suspicious parts while the engine is idling (high vacuum). If there's a leak, the idle speed will change (up or down) depending on where it is and the volatility of the spray. We used to check manifold gasket leaks in old V-8's this way! (only then we used carb cleaner).

Good luck!

* Where would I start this process? Spray the TBC on what? I think I do have an air leak somewhere in my 06 3.3. When I accelerate from a stop, if I apply more than minimum pressure to the pedal, the car jumps, then slows, jumps again, slows, etc... Once I'm above 25-30mph it usually goes away, but when accelerating, I hear a louder noise now. Could that be an air leak? Any help would be great!
