This is one 'hot' car...

Well, I was taking things out of the trunk of my hatchback and discovered that a candle was melted a little on the bottom and was hotter than the other items back there. Upon further review, I lifted the black felt cover and discovered the photos below:

I know that the muffler is right below this part of the 'trunk' and I know that Hyundai is aware of the problem because they did put that heat sticker on top of the metal.

Has anyone brought this to the attention of the dealership? If so, what did they do about it?

Though I despise you for getting the Blue Hatchback (lucky <word that rhymes with 'wastard'>), you have redeemed yourself with your factory installed skillet comment.

In other news, I did send the photos off to Hyundai to see what I needed to do. Ill let you know what I find out.

Well, I took it to the dealership this afternoon on a whim (I figured I would drop in to say hello after seeing their sign from the freeway).

I pull in and get the service manager to look at it. He got on his phone and 3 or 4 Hyundai mechanics from the back came waltzing over to look at it. After about 15 minutes, the Hyundai pow-wow was over and one of the mechanics told me that it was nothing to worry about. If the little heat shield sticker somehow goes away, then I was told to bring it back in.

They told me that the sticker was there because during the initial testing of the vehicle (pre-production) it did get very hot there, and this was the (cheapest) solution that Hyundai came up with. The only real solution would be to lower the muffler, and my guess it that would be pricier than a sticker printed to match the vehicle.

Long story short, ignore it (until it starts to smoke or smell like melting felt!)

The trunk in the last gen was noticeably warmer above the muffler. I don't recall if it has a sticker, now I have to find out and check its condition if it has one. It is warm enough that I always make it a point to not put perishables on that side when leaving the grocery store... I guess the RB's would work if you need to cook dinner on the way home. Crazy!

I almost have 18,000 on mine and it has a couple of long distance hauls on it, and it does get hot here in Southern California... I'm guessing it is something that only comes with age or location. Then again, mine was number 169 to roll off the line (according to the VIN), and this is a brand new model, so I expected some bugs when I got it.
