Went to the dealership today to have the TCM updated for a supposed smoother ride according to most on here. Walked in with a one hour estimated wait, walked out with a Hertz rental lol. According to the service manager, who was also kind enough to drive me home, said that mid way through the install the download got corrupt and upon reinstalling somewhere along the way the computer for the driving aspect of the car got fried. Over nighting a new one and hopefully walking out with a repaired car. Anyone else's Sonata "not take" the update? According to the tech out of 150+ Sonatas updated, mine was the only one with a problem.

Go to page 2 on the forum, then to transmission update TCM page 6 and read my post. Since last fri 7/29/11 I'M still waiting for my car. My service dept. didn't overnight the part like yours did. They gave me a loaner but I wasted a lot of time already on this. Not very happy with Hyundai right now. RGAR18

Thats a good way for the dealership to keep a customer. Getting a part in ASAP is one method of making people happy.

Interesting. You may have the first know Sonata in the world to have a virus.

almost making me not want to go get mine done... i have crappy luck... that will probably happen to me too :wallbash:
Yeah...you may want to think about it. I'm not at all happy with my update...at low stop & go speeds in taffic, the tranny shifts like crap...very clunky and tired of trying to time when the hit the gas while it's engine breaking cause I can't stand the jerk I feel at that moment.

I'm taking mine back today to have them update it again.

OK so update! By the way guys thanks for the input. Got my car back, all is well, I can tell the shifting is smoother and on the highway it definitely rides ridiculously nice, pedal at lights also seems to be a bit more responsive. All in all I'm pretty happy considering all that happened.

I know what you mean about the engine braking, that jerkiness is annoying.. Thats actually one of the things i was hoping would go away after the update

Well I took my 2011 Sonata GLS in for a TCM update on 7/29/11.After waiting for 4 hours I was told that the up date didn't "take" I was told today that the part is on back order and will not be in until 8/14/11. This is way more than a sleep over. Its ridiculous that they are doing updates without parts back up. You can view my other posts on this also. Hyundai's service has completely lost me as a future customer. When I looked up the date 8/14 is a Sunday so I don't believe this is accurate either. I Don't want to bad mouth a whole car company for just my situation but look at the other posts.I am still driving a loaner and I have little faith in Hyundai right now....RGAR18

I had mine done yesterday, took about an hour and I'm very pleased with the new performance. More pickup and smoother shifting. I always liked the car before. Now I can't wait to get up and drive it.

It sounds more like a dealership issue than Hyundai itself.
Before writing off Hyundai all together, try another dealer.

Be thankful that he gave you a rental. The same kind of thing happened with me on a 87 Pontiac. This was one of the first (at least for me) electronic computerized ignition engines. I took it in with a check engine light (or whatever called back then) and was charged $80 just to run the diagnostics on it. The dealer broke it and and had no idea how to fix it. It was less than a year old. Thankfully I had access to another car. I raised **** with corporate and they finally sent someone that could fix it. It was almost a week. I have only owned Hyundai s since then. Do other company dealers still charge for doing diagnostics under warranty?

Sounds like a lazy tech and/or dealer. sbr was able to get one without adding information about back orders.

Here is portion of the notice.. I usually know about them before my Mgr gets his stuff done, as I usually have car to scan first thing or fella next to me,, but I had left over from yesterday, and Mgr beat me to it.

There is nothing called out yet for the ESP program.

The 0748, all I can do is speculate that the ROM listing was added to as indicated by -2 revision of original TSB

The TCM update was done when I took it in because the R at the shifter sometimes turns red and sometimes stays white. The R thing still isn't fixed but the update went ok for the TCM. The only thing odd after that was that while in ECO mode the throttle has its moments, once in a while when I give it a little gas the car pulls off like I almost floored it.

Outside all this, Still am happier trading my Ford Exploder in for this car.

Received my 2011 Sonata today after waiting for a part to be delivered. (See my older posts). The car is running great, shifting beautifully, and its nice to have my car back. The service adviser apologized and washed and did the tires and the car looks detailed. I did criticize Hyundai when I was going thru this but I'm willing to give them a second chance. The service adviser treated me with a loaner and its not his fault that they don't stock the TCM. So we'll see what the future brings ...RGAR18
