Hi all,
I installed my Shark Racing LED taillights and wanted to share for those that need some guidance.

First off remove the lower center trim that surround the truck lock striker.
2 Philip head plastic anchors.
2 pop clips

Remove the trunk floor carpeted mat

Remove left & right interior trunk trim panels.
remove the screwed anchors for the cargo net
2 pop clip (on each side)

lift off the weather stripping and near the hinge there is a clip that hooks the trim panel to the body, re install the weather stripping so you don't get the sealer on your hands. Do this for both sides.

Towards the center the is a 10mm / Philip head bolt that screws into the trunk floor remove them for both sides.

On the drivers side push the fuel door release cable through the hole.

You should now have access to the mounting bolts for left and right lights

Starting with the drivers side remove the 10mm 4 nuts that hold down the light, unplug and it the light slide out.

In this photo you can see the difference between the plugs from the SR lights and the US Sonata lights.
SR on left Stock on right.

We need to remove the pins from both the SR connector and the stock connector on each light. The connector slides down and has a locking tab. You will need a small pick and from the top push in at the small hole (near the center pin) and slide the connector up. After you remove the connector from the light you must remove the pin lock. This pops out with a small pick.
Image

Looking at the plug from the PIN side not the wire side you will see a little tab that need to be lifted up and PIN will side out from the back. Remove all the PINs/wire on each light.
You no longer need the connector from the SR light. We will now take the wires from SR light and connect them to OEM connector. You insert your wire so they match up like this. Both side will be the same except for the directional wire, but the SR lights should be the same regardless of which side you are connecting.
Image

The SR light has 2 black wires 1 black and 1 Black w/yellow. Use the Black /yellow to insert into the connector. Take the black wire and tap onto the black/ yellow. I used a crimp connector. you can strip and tape, solder or crimp.
Looking at the above picture the wires on the right are from the SR light and from the left is the car harness. Make sure both side match the right side connector.

You can now reinstall the outer lights.

For the inner lights.
pop open the "pull here" handle, there are 2 screws there and a bunch of plastic screw anchors. After that the entire interior trunk cover will come off.
remove the 2 10mm acorn on the outside of the light and the 1 black 10mm nut on the inside. Unplug the lamp and remove the light. The US Sonata has a 3 pin connector. 1 wire is ground, 1 is reverse and the last is a tail light. We need to run a brake light wire up there. The SR light also has a brake light in the outer lights. You will need a very small flat head screwdriver. We need to open the factory harness to add a brake wire. Take the small flat head and slide it into the zip tie that holds the harness to the left side hinge. Your going to insert into the opposite end from where the tie exits. This will push up the locking tab and you can slide the zip tie back out, so you can reuse it. Once you opened all the zip ties that hold that harness you will then peal off the tape on the wire loom. On the rights side follow the harness going down from the trunk where it joins the car harness you will find a Green wire. This is the brake light wire. You should use a test light b/c there are 2 green wires in that harness. You will need to add a wire from that location and long enough to follow the harness up to each light. I used a crimp connector. I attached 1 wire to the green wire following the factory truck harness up the point were the L/S trunk light splits off. Leave the slack do not cut it.
Image

Reinstall the wire loom over the harness (with the newly added wire) and tape it like it was. reconnect the zip tie clips back to the harness.

Where we left the slack on the wire running into the trunk lid. You need to split off the wire so you have this wire at each of the trunk lights. You can see a red wire on the left side and a green wire for the right side. (I ran out of green)
Image

Ok now were ready to work with the inner light. Like we did on the outer lights remove the locking locking pin clip from the SR light and the L/S light, remove all of the wires from the connector. Reconnect the wires to the 3 PIN connector so that it matches the connector on the left in this photo. You will have 1 extra green wire. This is going to connect to the wire that you ran. I used a female spade connector, but if you have to you can cut the PIN off and crimp directly to the green wire. Your PIN configuration should look like this for both sides.

Reinstall all of your panels and your done!

Just a side note. I installed LED directional bulbs for the rears light. I ordered the resistor with the mounting bracket and mounted them like this. You will need to bend the bracket a bit to make the curve. You will also need to find 2 nuts (1 of each side) that are the same thread as the light mounting nuts. Slide the bracket over the nut that holds in the light and install a second nut to hold the bracket. In this location there is enough room between the carpeted cover and the resistor (they get hot if used constantly).

Yup in the last photo. I purchased the LED's and resistors from V-LEDS.com

If your gonna order from them look around there are discount coupons floating around.

Enter Coupon Code SAVE15 at check out and get 15% off! Expires 3/20/11.
Joe,
Do you know the bulb specifications for our car? For the rear turn bulbs and backup bulbs? Thanks.

Hi you guys! I am using this post to try to hook up my 3rd brake light in my new rear spoiler. I can see I can spice into the green wire in the trunk and run it up to my spoiler light, but I need 2 wires for the spoiler I assume the green is power from the switch to light the light, but where do I hook the black wire from the spoiler light to? Do I just ground it or do I need to splice into another wire somewhere?

What do the two wires on your spoiler represent?

Grounding it to metal would be easiest.

Well the red wire is power positive and the black wire is negative so I am assuming I splice the red wire into the green like in this post for the brake light operation so do I ground the black to the trunk lid? I know there must be a ground wire in that bundle somewhere but I am not sure which one it is? If I look at the dual element stop/ tail light bulb it has 3 wires, green, red, and black, assuming the green is power for the brake light I need to know is which color is ground, red, or, black? I guess one is power for the tail lights and the other must be ground, but I am not sure, anyone have a 2011 color code for the sonata 2.4 wiring diagram in the trunk area for the tail/brake lights? Thanks!

If you have a digital volt meter (can be had for around 10-20 dollars) you can simply probe those three wires and know for sure.

If I was a guessing man, red is parking, green is brake applied and black is common.

Oh I didn't realize that you had a dual brightness light. You can register at hmaservice.com for free wiring diagrams. If I were to guess I would agree with Bearcats Red - parking, Green - Brake, Black - Ground. You can ground it to the trunk lid, but your better off grounding it to a piece of metal that doesn't move.

wow... on my old BMW 328i, I ordered EE LED tails, they came, I took the old tails out, put the new tails in, plugged them in and voila!

..for being a 2011, that's a lot of work for what should be PnP...
Its not much work at all. Its pretty easy as Joeeey and other have taken all the guesswork out of it.

Well the difference is you probably got aftermarket lights or oem lights made for us spec cars. These led lights are made for kdm spec cars, hence the modification.
