Yesterday I was going in my Sonata to work and suddenly I see this guy with the Chrysler 300 come up to me and pass me I got angry so I got close to him and pressed on the horn. In the end I beat him badly and believe me he was trying. My car crossed over 200 km/h. Anyways I was just wondering that even at 200 km/h the engine wasnt exhausted as it was still on 4th gear. So isnt 138 mph a little too small for this car. I believe it should go over that as I have tested many cars what do you guys think?

It's supposed to be limited to ~138. I don't remember if it's computer controlled or aerodynamically limited. EDIT: must be computer controlled after looking at dogstar's dyno runs. I could have swore I read somewhere that it was aerodynamically limited. Maybe they meant that "due to aerodynamics it was computer limited" ?

Nice kill on the standard 300. Here are the horsepower ratings for three models:

300 - 189HP
300 Limited - 250HP
300C - 345HP (RWD and AWD)
300 SRT-8 - 425HP (Heaven forbid any of us messes with one of these) :w00t:

The regular 300 is ~3,721 pounds and the others are over 4,000.

What type of racetrack was this on? On my way to work I dont drive on any racetracks. Maybe I should move back to Windsor, ON if there are ractracks on the way to peoples jobs.

The reason your speed was limited was 1.) your tires are speed rated for probably right around 140mph 2.) Hyundai doesnt want any lawsuits from people driving well in excess of the speed limit on public roads due to someones stupidity

:puzzled: congrats on the kill

Lawsuit??? So your saying every other car company that makes cars that go crazy fast are asking for lawsuits? People will do stupid things in a Yugo. I think speed shouild be based on the drivers ability. "Traffic laws are for those who dont know how to drive". Dont steal that line my grandfather already coined it. If you live in KC hop on hwy 35 Ive made good time on that road.

Traffic laws are for those who dont know how to drive.

Any one of those "who don't know how to drive" can change lanes in the blink of an eye and get in the way of a street racer. The notion of someone without lights and siren driving 100+ mph on the public streets is plain incomprehensible to the average driver.

Consider physiology. How low are the reflex/eyesight/reaction times set to get a driver's license?

If you must drive fast, buy a ticket to Germany or Italy and drive on the Autobahn or Autostrada. Or learn to drive a REAL race car and drive where the competition is sanctioned.

When I was much younger I saw what the Italians call a "splat." I didn't see the collision, I saw the firefighters putting what was left of the drivers into body bags. One of the drivers was impaled by the steering column, and the stench of the burned contents of his bowels is something I'll always remember.

Maybe that's affected my attitude on street racers. All of us, street racers to Grannies, take the risk of coming home in a body bag when we get behind the wheel. I just don't want to take someone else with me.

Cheers. Well put. I feel a bit sad, (for real, not kidding). I dont think that will change the minds of young people and old alike that drive that way but at least you put it out there. I want world peace but.....George wont let that happen. :eek:fftopic: Anyway. That was a Buzz Kill/Debbie Downer all the way. In real life the people that drive the speed limit are few and far between. Everyone drives to fast at some point. No matter if your going 5mph over the limit or 50 you can die or kill someone else. Not wearing your seatbelt kills more than speed. I just learned that in a drivers course for a speeding ticket. I can post the info. The best way to be safe in a car is leave it in the garage and walk to work....oh then you run the risk of getting hit by a car going 10mph and getting killed. Life is a tuff cookie. Da^&d if you do da&$d if you dont.

Why on earth would anyone in their right senses want to go at the speed you are indicating to us that you routinely drive. Are you married and if so do you intend to make a widow out of your wife? If you are not married you are more than likely to cause someone else's demise. I hope, for your sake, that you get caught with your craziness before you kill yourself or someone else. Unless you are a professional driver who races on a track, and you indicate that not to be the case, where is your common sense?

now, while i am quite critical of most people, i dont really know why some people are taking such offence to someone having a little bit of spirited fun.

i assume that someone who bought a large family sedan didnt do it to go out racing every weekend, so once in a while they go out and let it rip... so what.

how many people have driven home after having a drink or two, or driven tired? maybe we can start critcizing them next :)

I think once you have kids you change your minds in regards to driving "insanely" fast, which in my opinion anything over 100 is absolutely NEVER called for. That being said, before I had kids (only a few years ago), yes I found out that my 95 Golf was limited at 120. The only road I did it on was a highway I am very familiar with, which was completely clear, and has no traffic (ever). But I would not do it again. Actually people that I see driving like that (almost all are under the age of 20) **** me off to no end. I am there driving on a highway with my wife, 4 yr old son, and 4 week old daughter, so what happens if you lose control, or if someone pulls out in front of you that causes you to swerve and hit me???? Granted I am not the type to sit in the right lane not going over the speed limit, but I drive with the flow of traffic.
Now for a story to exemplify my opinion:
The other week I was on a highway, and some idiot came flying up behind me (probably doing at least 120) on a highway with a lot of traffic, where the highway split off into three different directions. Well if I didn't see him and floor it (I was probably doing about 75 when I saw him), he would have ran into the back of me as there was a line of cars next to me, and he barely had enough room to get over in front of the car that had been next to me after I floored it. That is the type of driving I find uncalled for and am speaking of in my rant. Luckily the Sonata has great pick-up!!!!

Well to conclude. . . congrats on taking down the Chrysler 300. . . just keep in mind (and I'm not implying you don't) the other drivers on the road. It would be rather tough to explain to a 4 yr old that his mommy and daddy aren't ever coming home because some kid thought they were invincible . . using my story above it was a kid not more than 18 driving a Honda that flew by me and my 8 month pregnant wife at the time.

I can only guess what the forum for Porsche is like. Im sure no one there says anything about going to fast. Id say they make fun of the guy that goes under 100..lol. Again, the guy going 5mph under the speed limit can cause just as much trouble as the guy going 5+ over the limit. I agree (yeah thats right) with Dogstar. Drinking a beer, being tired, all problems just the same. How bout the crazy lady putting on makeup, or the fatty with his Big Mac. The roads are full of nuts. Im just glad Im in my Sonata on them.

Many people do things while driving that are dangerous. Speeding, drinking, eating, reading, cell phones, shaving, putting on makeup, having sex, etc, etc...
I think the point that is trying to be made is that if we all drive as safely as we can, we can reduce the chances of causing an accident. We all need to take ownership of our driving habits and make a concerted effort to be responsible drivers. Safety is everyones responsibility. :57:
