The settings control how fast the car will accelerate to the selected speed. Most people, including me, prefer the slow setting.

 

Agreed. Also, it controls how long it waits before braking. In normal and fast mode, it would wait a little too long for comfort to brake.

The "slow" setting is probably the safest since the SCC can sometimes leave a big gap between you and the car in front and invariably someone will jump in from another lane.

 

Especially if you're me...

 

I find that the slow and medium settings makes it take too long to accelerate after the car in front starts moving, after being stopped. People behind. Me go berserk when the car doesn't respond quickly at the green light, but the fast setting seems acceptible. I also find that changing the drive mode to "sport" makes it even more responsive. I have not noticed the braking being significantly different, but perhaps need to try it some.
