why do my doors automatically unlock every time I put the car into "park"?

is this normal...or do I have some setting fubbered up? I don't think it's a very safe feature for a myriad of reasons.

Yes its normal.

Just out of curiosity why dont you think its a safe feature? your only puting your car in park when you are stopped and most of the time when you are planning on getting out.

example. wy wife drives to the airport parking terminal. it's night time. she pulls into a parking space.....a van with some freak with bad intentions pulls in next to her....or unbeknownst to her is already parked next to her. when the car is put in park.....all doors unlock automatically. that's NOT good.

good example but as long as it doesn't prevent you from locking it and it shouldn't you should be fine. but Old Man Hyundai does have good advice.

You can reprogram how the auto-unlock feature works yourself, or you can turn it off completely. It's all explained in the owner's manual.
QUOTE
Vehicle setting
When the vehicle is at a standstill, pressing
the TRIP button for more than 2 seconds
with the engine start/stop button in
the ON position or engine running, the
LCD screen on the cluster will change to
the vehicle setting mode.
You can change the item by pressing the
TRIP button and choose the item by
pressing the RESET button.
Auto door lock
Off - The auto door lock operation will be
canceled.
Speed - All doors will be automatically
locked when the vehicle speed
exceeds 9.3mph (15km/h).
Shift Lever (if equipped) -
All doors will be automatically locked if
the shift lever is shifted from the P(Park)
position to the R(Reverse), N(Neutral) or
D(Drive) position.
Auto door unlock
Off - The auto door unlock operation will
be canceled.
Key Out - All doors will be automatically
unlocked when the ignition
key is removed from ignition
switch (or smart key is
removed from the smart key
holder).
Door - All doors will be automatically
unlocked if the driver's door is
unlocked inside.
Shift Lever (if equipped) -
All doors will be automatically unlocked if
the shift lever is shifted to the P(Park)

There are a couple of settings you can change in the "Vehicle Settings" part of the dash. Although I would like to see some more customizability there but I guess im just picky

Am I just imagining things, or does the 2.4 have more options in the vehicle settings than the turbo?

I was positive when I test drove a 2.4 Ltd that I could changes things like # of flashes for the 1-touch lane change, honk to lock on/off amongst a few other things I can't remember that are not available on my Turbo.

Maybe a less recent computer flash?

thanks guys...this is why I love this board. I had no idea you could change settings. wow
Def is a nice feature to mess around with amongst others in that setting. I actually changed mine to all 4 doors unlock (when I press unlock on the FOB or outside button) on the lot before driving away the 1st night. I like to play with new toys and find all the secrets I guess :whistling:

I still don't get it though, if she's at the point of putting the car in park wouldn't she have made the decision to get out of the car already? If it didn't unlock itself, she would've unlocked it at that time. And if she pulls up and sees a crazy person, I don't think it would be smart to put the car in park anyway right? I'm glad you have a solution but I seriously do not see the point at all.

lol....you have SINGLE guy written all over that post. :]

girls tend to park...then do any number of things, including but not limited to...mess with their purse, do make-up in the rear view mirror...make a phone call...etc etc...after parking and before getting out of the car.

added to that...is the fact that ALL the doors unlock by default at parking. no need for that....any cop will tell ya why.

Actually I happen to be married with a pregnant wife and also have a 5 year old daughter! The more I think about it and talked to her about it, you may have a point. I too might change the settings. I wonder if you can make just the driver side door unlock.

Married, with a daughter, and another kid on the way is proving you still don't know (some of) the ways of a woman :bwekk: Trust me, they are right, most women I sell these cars to want me to change it so the doors don't unlock when put into park. Either way, now ya know
