Service Manuals

Does anyone know where I can find a service manual for our Sonatas? Is the factory service manual the only option? I'm not sure if HAYNES or CHILTON has published a service manual for Sonatas just yet. I would like to change the transmission filter, but I'm reluctant to do it without reading about it first. Thanks.

That's interesting. I figured there would be a filter since there's a cover on the front of the transaxle just behind the radiator fan. Do you know why you're allowed access to the transaxle through the cover? Can we drain the torque converter on our models? I should have noted that I have a V6 Sonata. Thanks again.

I'm almost sure it has some sort of non replaceable filter. With that said, a Transmission Service on my Hyundai Excel which included new Fluid, a Filter, and a Gasket was $24.95 in 1995. I'm not a fan of the Flush. Seems most others are.

Why aren't you a fan of the flush? I find it odd too that we don't have a tran filter.

While I am not a "pro" I did consult http://www.hmaservice.com it does refer to a transmission filter. I found this in the "Transaxle/Transmission REASSEMBLY" article

Here are some are some quotes:

"In reassembly, replace ATF and cleanse its filter thoroughly. Replace the damaged filter element with a new one."

and

"Install the two O-rings(A) and the main oil filter(B). "

If this can be done during a normal ATF change I'm still looking into.

I not a fan of a flush either but how on a car that holds around 12 qts of ATF and you can't drain the torque convert (TC) supposed to get the old fluid out?

I paid $100 to have 3.2 qt of fluid replaced after I bought my Sonata used (drain an fill)! At 30k I'm going to have to flush for $125 and get all the old fluid out. In my view the $100 was really wasted.

Speaking of the drain and fill I think the service order said they also cleaned the filter, I'll have to check when I get home.

Too bad more auto companies don't follow Mercedes Benz's lead and put a drain bolt on the TC

This is WAY off topic (mods, move or delete it as you wish).......

I've noticed a strange trend on this forum. Often, when people ask a question, instead of an answer to the original question, they get advice not related to the question.

I'm sure that people are trying to be helpful, but the original question often goes unanswered.

Examples:

Q: How do I disconnect my seatbelt chime:
A: WEAR YOUR SEATBELT

Q: Where do I get a manual?
A: Sonatas don't (or maybe they do) have a trans filter.

Q: How do I get to my gauges?
A: Leave them alone/put tape over them.

Q: How do I disconnect my (whatever)
A: whatever modification is a waste, don't do it.

I do understand that people ARE trying to be helpful, and some action on a thread is better than a thread that gets no replies...........

ANYWAY........... back to our regularly scheduled topic........(sorry, scotty7 :innocent: )

Well I DID include a link to http://hmaservice.com doesn't that count for something?  :)

Yes this did count for something. Thanks Paul!

NOW after you did that we can/could change the subject. We were still talking about tranny filters and fluids and flushes so we were still on the right part of the car.

This will probably be taken the wrong way, but CNY please don't assume that I want to start a fight or argument.

Do you agree that the basic reason behind the question was "I want a manual so I know how to change the filter"?

So, that being, if there is no filter, you cannot change the filter, whether or not you have a manual.

And to answer the OP question, no, I don't know of a haynes or chilton yet, but I will look.

No worries!

EDIT:I'm also looking for a Service Manual, since the HMASERVICE site is seriously lacking in some areas (it's also difficult to bring the site out to the car when I'm working on it!).
I'm looking to find out how you get the climate console out, to get your stereo in there?

I saw that there is a piece that is held in with only 4 clips (the faceplate), but I can't find a good spot to pry on, to pop it off.

Here's another off-topic question.... How'd you get the climate console out, to get your stereo in there?

I saw that there is a piece that is held in with only 4 clips (the faceplate), but I can't find a good spot to pry on, to pop it off.

I'm thinking of stuffing a CB radio in there (yeah I know it's 2007, but I still use one!).

make your own thread there add that to the list lol

I found the proper place for this question:

While we might take some liberties in threads & have fun along with learning new things, we always try to avoid this...
