How can I disconnect the seatbelt warning bell, so that it doesn't screw up the cars computer....? I always wear my seatbelts and it's driving me nuts.
Thanks,

Doug

I have a stupid question .. if you are wearing the belt why is it dinging ?  Do you mean just when you start the car ?

When you're just sitting in the car, waiting, cleaning it, or listening to music you don't normally wear a seat belt.

The nagging noise maker is accessible by removing the panel just above the shifter console.

Thank you for the answer.

And yes I understand that if I wear the belt it won't Ding, but I tend to start my car first before putting on the belt, and take my belt off in the driveway before I turn my car off.

If they want to use a DINGDINGDING, they should put one for if you leave your lights on instead.

FWIW, I have enough ringing in the ears from my too loud days at the disco way back when, I don't need my Sonata adding to the symphony I already have in my head.

I find the 'door open' chime much MUCH MUCH more annoying. It wouldn't be bad if it just rang for a few seconds and stopped, but it never stops. Just having the key turned in the ignition, not even running, and it goes off. At least the seatbelt one only chimes for a short interval.

Agreed, this is more a priority of removing.. instances like when I pick up my siblings and have to wait a while, other cars I could just open the door for fresh air and listen to music and socialize with friends I see in the parking lot, but no... ding ding ding ding ding... really annoying

If you don't like noisy gadgets and silly safety features which are not at all safe, wait til you buy your next new car. There's big money in this stuff for the carmakers and the minute one company adds a gidget whizmo, they all copy it.

Maybe the next Sonata will have Mercedes seat massagers (I am not kidding). Shouldn't add more than a thousand to the ticket. Of course, if it breaks, no one will know how to fix it.

I don't think it's possible to leave the lights on in these cars. I've tried it both ways and whether you leave the light switch in the "auto" or "on" position, the lights go out when you turn off the ignition.

I think everyone is wondering if this does anything to the other restraint systems in the car. For instance will the airbags still be 'armed'.

I'd love to see a wiring diagram of that circuit. If clipping a wire is the switch to indicate the belt is buckled, that would lead me to believe there is some sort of current running through the wires, and buckling the belt trips some sort of a switch to interrupt the current. In that case clipping the wire would leave the rest of the system armed. Unfortunately I don't have handy tools like a voltmeter to test those things. Does anyone out there want to give it a crack?

I would NOT do this. Airbags deploy differently depending on belt useage, and my guess is this will fool the computer into thinking your buckled up all the time. If for some reason your not, and you crash, you'll get a full force airbag deployment, which will cause more harm than good. Leave it alone.

There is a way though to have the parking lights stay on accidentally, which I wasn't aware of. As soon as you turn off the ignition the lights go off, great feature, my Elantra had that!. But if you turn on the Ignition, and the Lights back on, they will stay on until exiting the Car using the Door lever. However my parking lights stayed on?. I would have to duplicate this again to figure out what the heck I did. :w00t:
