2006 Sonata with 3.3L V6. Anyone have input how to remove the MAF sensor on this engine? I see it right between the air cleaner and the throttle body input but can't get the electrical connector off for one thing. I bought some MAF cleaner (don't use carb cleaner) and did this on my other car (a Saab) and I cleaned the throttle boddy butterfly valve at he same time (with Valvoline carb and Throttle Body cleaner spray). It really needed it. I use a lightly oiled K&N filter on the Sonata and I hear it's even more important to clean the MAF sensor it under these conditions. You just blast it with the spray and reinstall.

Any input would be appreciated.

I cleaned mine (I4) and it didn't seem to help at all. I was hoping for a tiny bit more power of possibly some better MPG. Nuttin! Very easy on the I4 though if you want to clean it, not sure about the V6.
Care to give me some instructions on how you did it for yours ive never done it and im just a wee over 100,000 so proboly should give it a shot

I'm not very good at explaining so hopefully I can help...

Basically, act like you are going to put in a new engine air filter. Take out the filter. You can then take out the plastic casing, by unscrewing a black knob. I had to kinda "man-handle" mine since it had never been cleaned and the dirt was built up around it. You end up undoing it and taking it out. There is also a wire attached for the sensor to receive electricity, you will need to disconnect that. You will see everything as posted in this forum topic for the Santa Fe. It is a little different, yet the same.

Sorry I'm not much help. If you need more help, I could probably take some pictures. That or maybe someone who has some extra time to do a step-by-step could post?

I did it a few months back, and if I can do it myself, anyone can. I believe on the Sonata you end up undoing 4 screws as well?

In my mind, my vehicles are running together.

So I did the MAF sensor cleaning yesterday at 117k miles. I doubt it has been done before, but I may be wrong because mine was not dirty at all. I would guess you could tell by the dark or gunky run off when you spray it? I sprayed it good and caught the run off in a paint drip pan...it was not dirty at all. Oh well, at 8 bucks, it was worth fighting with the air box to get it out.

Btw: the wire that is connected to the sensor...does that come off easily? Mine seemed to be stuck on there hard and I didn't want to break anything so I just put the sensor over a drip pan to catch the cleaning fluids.

It does seem to run smooth though - maybe placebo effect I dunno.

Reviving this thread. Looking to to this to my 2009 Sonata V6 with 175k miles. It looks like the MAF is plumbed inline between the airbox and the throttle box.

I assume it's best to remove it entirely in order to clean it thoroughly. Can anyone confirm this or have any suggestions on removing the electrical connector? Thanks in advance.
