Hey Guys

Just curious what you guys are doing for PSF-4 fluid, I called Valvoline directly (as they supply hyundai with the fluid, according to MSDS sheets) and they said that Hyundai owns all the rights, and buys 100% of the stock, and they are not allowed to sell this product at the retail level

Just curious what you guys are doing, or if anyone has found an equvilant product that is speced for it

How often are people flushing this?, for maximum pump and rack life

Thanks

unfortunetly modern power steering systems are doing more with less, higher pressures, temperture, less fluid, and more complex, and suceptable materials

The old systems carries as much as 2 liters of fluid, and everything was metal, and silicon seals....very durable. Things now have more plastic, and what not and are more prone, and get contaiminated easier due to less fluid to deal with the contaimination

Just my 2 cents

You can buy quart bottle of PSF-4 at Kia,, price is better I think than the small bottles of Hyundai..

You may be able to order the Kia bottle part number at Hyundai,, as I had typed it into 1 of the parts sites in past, and it came up with correct descrition and price,,, parts come out same depot here in my region.. Just hit a dealer in the Niagra Falls/Buffalo NY area if close enough.

Does the accent come with psf-3 or psf-4. My 2011 owners manual says psf-3. There is a kia tsb that claims the two are not compatable together and you must completely drain a psf-3 system before adding psf-4.

The kia tsb also states the psf-4 fluid is green. is the hyundai psf-4 also green? One could just look at your color to determine if you have 3 or 4.

I saw a similar TSB somewhere on hmaservice as well about the interchangability (or lack thereof.) I have PSF3 on mine accoring to the owner's manual. I don't know what to do if it ever needs topping off since I suspect PSF3 availability might be an issue (aside from paying a dealer to flush...).

I still have the original fluid in mine...

Just to add to the confusion:

My owners manual for my 2011 accent calls for psf-3

My local Hyundai dealer syas they haven't had psf-3 in years and that Hyundai started using psf-4 in all new cars. My 2011 is pretty new and calls for psf-3.

psf-4 is green and semi-synthetic. psf-3 is suppose to be conventional ps fluid
and is clear/amber/yellow.

So I dipped a q-tip into my ps fluid and it's red/pink..

So is this psf-3 dyed red? Or is it atf sp3? Why would hyundai sill use psf-3 in
new cars if the dealer only carries psf-4 and you have to do a complete flush..

Well this adds a whole new confusion to it, I bet it probably SPIII tranny fluid, this wouldn't suprise me as more manufactures have been doing this for years

I talked to my buddy who is a parts manager at hyundai, PSF-4 is $15 a liter (wholesale)

My manual says use PSF-4 only, but I am in canada and apparently PSF-4 fixes the stiff steering when cold, because apparently southern ontario gets colder than North Michigan

Duro... can you look in your PS reservoir ( 2011 sport accent) and confirm that the fluid in yours is GREEN. If it is then Hyundai used psf-4 for Canada and psf-3 for the US. If yours is green, then I will switch mine over psf-4.

8yr Hyundai service, never seen a bottle of "3".. just regular stuff from part store (clear)..

The "4" came about with the 2006 Sonata/Azera,, the "4" as noted is a synthetic or synthetic based (green and smelly),, not all model use it either,, so refer to owner manual for specified fluid type.

Thanks for the update. We now know that both Canadian and US markets got the psf-3. I am unsure about how compatable dex-3 would be. I would assume that it would be a good match.

On a side note. I have two Mitsubishi made Chrysler Seebrings. They both call for psf-3 (also sp-3 for the auto trans) I few years back I was going to flush and replace the trans and power steering fluids. I had asked the local Chrysler dealership what they use. The service rep showed me a Chrysler TSB that indicated to use Mopar atf+4 for both systems. There is also alot of talk over on the bobistheoilguy forums about how close atf+4 is to sp-3. Anway, I have been using atf+4 in the steering and trans on both those cars for several years now. The doesn't darken like sp-3 does and so far so good.

I will more than like change my Accent over to psf-4 this spring just to avoid any warranty issues.

Well I have decided.....for my car anyway

I will be using Fully Synthetic Eneos Eco ATF

It has all the specs except PSF-3, and it's synthetic

-ENEOS ECO-ATF is compatible with transmission requiring Toyota T-IV and WS, Honda Z1, Nissan Matic J and S, Mitsubishi/Hyundai/Kia SP-III, GM Dexron III and Ford Mercon

Here's the link - http://www.eneos.us/product/6

And the best part is it's about half the price of PSF-4 at wholesale cost, and it's red to keep the dealership happy, as they won't know it's been flushed

Just curious is this is a good idea, or anyone had any experience with this fluid yet

Well I baught that fluid be haven't changed it yet.....

I also picked up 2 liters of pentosin CHF-202 which I think I will use instead, as it is a replacement for PSF-4.

There is a genesys coupe TSB replacing PSF3 with chf-202

I am waiting till my engine noise issue is resolved, then I will be flushing the fluid, and puting MT-85 in the tranny aswell.

Flushed out the PSF-3 last night and replaced with Pentosin CHF202

It's liquid gold at $20+/liter, however is a full synthetic.
And there is a genesys coupe TSB replacing PSF3 with chf-202, to aid cold weather performance

The steering feeling has not changed, however my fluid only had 50,000km and was still really clean and not burnt.

I did notice that my pump feels a lot cooler to the touch after a 1 hour drive, and doesn't make any noise when cold any more (-7 degC this morning).

The system holds 0.9L, however I flushed about 1.75L through it to make sure I got all the old stuff out.

Will keep everyone posted
