Parked W/ Lights Off, Radio/clock Backlights Too Bright!

Ok so I was with some buddies sitting in my car listening to music, and as soon as I turned off the lights (parking lights), the dash backlights turn off and the radio and clock backlights become SUPER bright. Its too annoying to leave it on and I had to block the displays with a box I had lying around.

Is there anyway to fix this, I do not want to sit in my car with parking lights on in order to not blind myself at night.

It is really bad and I'm considering attaching a cloth to my dash so that I can cover it at night!

Is it Nav or No-Nav? I'm pretty sure on the Nav there's a way of turning the display off entirely, even if still listening to the radio. Something like hitting the display button and hitting "display off" I think.

This function works on non-Nav as well.

The DISPLAY button turns the entire display panel off

Try the same switch that adjusts the brightness of the dash ect. when the headlights are on, I believe it adjusts the lights when headlights are off as well. I will have to wait until its dark or I get home to my garage to be sure but i think i remember playing with it on a cloudy day and I was able to adjust it with headlights off.

No, the dash adjustment does not reduce backlight of radio/clock when headlights are off.

Anyone else have possible solutions?

The illumination switch on the left side of the steering wheel on the dash will turn down the display and clock lights even on the accessory mode. Atleast it does on mine...
If that is true, then they must be listening to our complaints. The "bright lights" exist on mine, and also every 2011 Sonata I've rented while on travel. Six so far. Anybody with a 2012 confirm this?

What happens when you set the backlight to its lowest setting with engine running/headlights on and then put the car in ACC mode? Does it default back to the brightest setting?

Get a hotel?
...and if she/he is ugly enough that you don't like what you see with just the dashboard lights on, then also keep your hotel lights off too. Don't forget a knife too in case, she/he falls asleep on your arm and you need to cut it off. Makes a much cleaner wound, than chewing your arm off to make your escape.

To the right of the CD slot. Opposite of the eject button. It says DISP.

The pic is taken of a 2012 limited but it should look almost the same.

Ijust checked on my 11 se and it looks like there is a blank there. It has a spot for a button but no button there. The op is correct that there is no way to turn down the lighting on the stereo, that I know of any way.

Yes thank you... There is now way to turn it down. Is it possible to get Hyundai to whip up a firmware update or something?

Otherwise, does anyone have a DIY method of doing this that would still look good? I'm thinking putting a blanket there so I can put it on and off as needed.

Btw, dirty minded posters, there are other reasons as to why one would want to listen to music in the car without having the parking lights on or a blinding dash.
