OK! I replaced the MAFs with a brand new, direct from China MAF. OBD light stayed off a while....then....P1128 comes back. Autozone read it as "fuel air metering" problem. Any suggestions? :whistling:

Although I got the vehicle thru emissions, it now runs rougher at idle and at acceleration from a stop.

When I had my P1128 several years ago, I read the code on my hand held unit and looked it up in my Accent service manual and noticed there were a bunch of things it could be beside the MAF, I thought it was the MAF.

I went to the dealer, I mentioned what I found and all the things it 'could' be -- he said right away MAF.

The cost was covered at that time.

Maybe your DEALER must use a more involved testing machine to determine?

Or maybe the 'China' replacements are not that cool.

I think I read somewhere that if the MAF acts up -- unplug the connector and the computer will go in a 'soft-fail' mode and the car will run. I guess if it runs better, the MAF has a problem.

Double check on all this.

ok thanks BH-206:

Is it easy to take apart?

Do you have to remove the whole MAF assembly or can the sensor just be removed?

With alcohol -- I think you would use clear isopropyl either 70% or 90% -- probably 90% would be better?

What does the sensor look like inside it's guts? The part that you would clean?

I took just the sensor out of the piping. I used a hacksaw to cut a slot in the weird screws so I could just use a flathead screwdriver. After that I Did-Not take the maf apart what-so-ever. I thought about it and even tried but I didn't want to break anything. The higher the better for alcohol. I only had 70% handy though.

The sensor has three parts.. the exposed part has a little wire that runs around a bit on the side. In the middle there is a flat metal surface sensor that goes through the sensor, and at the top there is three metal prongs one after the other.

In the end I was just feeding all three with brake cleaner.
