DDM ultra Hid

Just finished the install of the DDM ultra 35w 5.5K hid kit on out 2009 Santa Fe.
This replaced my original kit that was installed in 2009 when new. The old kit had lost a ballast and a replacement ballast I installed only lasted 6 months.

The "Ultra" kit has quality heavy duty ballasts and better bulbs. The install was easy and light output is very clean. good for $79. :grin2:

Hi All,

Has anybody had the chance to try those new all in one LED headlight kits?

Since HID are not recommended for high beams I was looking for a solution to match the HID low beams.

I wonder if they would fit inside the housing given the small space inside the bulb cavity on the headlight assembly and the bulky looking fan from these bulbs.

Thanks for your comments
Cheers
Dan

I have the same question. My supply of 65W halogens is now gone and it's time to order more. I like the kit djred2000 mentioned in post 433 of this thread, but I also like the concept of LED's. Any thoughts or suggestions between the two?

Also, why is the use of HID lights discouraged for high-beam use? I would think that is where they would be the best. TIA

Hello. I have an Hyundai Santa Fe 2008 Model. Some rare times as I drive the SUV it seizes for a brief minute. Then when I restart it the vehicle continue driving and performing perfectly. This seizure occurs once in about 2 weeks of driving the SUV around town. Please can you diagnose the problem?

Just installed HID to my 2009 Santa Fe

Just installed HID kit for my 2009 Santa Fe 3.3 Limited.
I used to have a low/high beam bulb blown every 6 months.
After gasket replaced at dealer under recall and heard my alternator is OK, I decided to replace.

I bought one from Amazon brand named Zentec, 35W, 6000K.
Very happy with the result also our Santa fe comes with projector lenses for low beam.

Throwing this out for some opinions on a 2012 Santy GLS, no fogs, no DRLs

Goals
(1) To see better (have terrible night vision)
(2) Not attract undue attention

I have read the entirety of this thread and several more that I could find.
I have done an H11 to H9 conversion on another vehicle but as far as I can tell there is no H11b to H??? Conversion... So not an option

I plan on getting the TRS Morimoto H11(b) Elite HD kit, my only concern is that the wife likes to drive around with the headlights on all the time (she's European and that's how they do it...). Is it ok for the Morimoto kit to run continuously? if so disregard the rest of post.

If not I was thinking I could either just get a set of separate DRLs/LED strip put on, wired to run when car on. Any suggestions here on a reliable DRL set up?

Or I was thinking something like this to preserve the look
2PCS LED Daytime running lights Fog Lamp Cover for 2010-2012 Hyundai Santa Fe | eBay
but not sure of the quality of the product, plus a set of HID fogs (again any recommendations?) Also not sure about light pattern and reliability since they would sit lower and I've read that the plastic bumper isn't the best place to mount securely.

Thoughts?

@thepipe - HIDs in highbeams are discouraged partly because they take a few seconds to come on and so in my situations, I would turn them on and then before they could warm up I'd have to turn them back off. An alternative could be LED highbeams.

I was thinking of getting LED highbeams for my girlfriend's 2010 SF. I already put in the Morimoto H11 elite kit for her lowbeams and they work wonderfully. Now I'm just trying to get everything else to be brighter.

Has anyone ever seen or looked for or tried putting an LED fog light in? I can't find a complete fog light(projector) that will fit for the 2010 fogs. I have looked everywhere. I would like the complete system instead of getting a HID or LED kit but if I must I think I might have to go for the LED bulb instead of the whole housing.

Also, this is sort of off topic...I was thinking of installing the led tails and putting in a VLEDs Triton switchback to be white when in reverse and amber for turn signals. Thoughts?

A couple of questions on LED bulbs for low beam and DLR/high beam...

I currently have a xenon HID kit H11 for the low beams in my 2009 Santa Fe.

I was thinking of giving the LED H11 bulbs a try along with changing out the DLR/high beam OEM bulbs with an H7 LED bulbs too.

Question #1... Are then any issues from switching from a Xenon H11 kit to one of the new H11 LED kits? I guess I won't need the ballasts anymore?

Question #2... A lot of these new LED bulbs have a fan at the end to keep the bulb cool. Should I be concerned with any install/clearance issues with these bulbs inside of the housing?

Question #3... I'm thinking of picking up the H11 & H7 bulbs from Amazon. It's the Nighteye cool white 6000k line. Which LED bulb makes have any 2009 Santa Fe members been able to successfully install and have no issues with?

Question #4... For those 2009 Santa Fe members who have the H11 & H7 LED's installed, would you mind attaching some headlamp housing pics of how they look like from behind? Again, I'm just curious on the clearance/length of these bulbs because of the extra fan on the back of the bulb?

Question #5... For those 2009 Santa Fe members who have the H7 LED's installed, how is the DLR/High beam functioning so far? Any issues?

Any advice / recommendations would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Dump the HIDs asap. They're trash now. LED is far superior by leaps and bounds. It's more reliable, higher light output and less parts.

You'll need to use a hole saw and cut a hole in the screw on headlight cover. The little black round thing that covers the bulbs. I hope that's understandable. Trying to describe it in super lamens terms lol.

Hi Pawelek,

Do you like those LEDs?

Are they nice and bright and white? Also do you have any issues with glare when someone is in front of the lights? Do you get people flash you with their high beams thinking you had yours on?

I have some HIDs now and I really don't like them. I want to switch them to LEDs but I've read that LEDs are not suitable for our projector type headlights.

Thanks.

Hey,

HIDs are terrible in our projectors. I found them scattering light and blinding if not adjusted low. Which also decreases the range of the lights. The LED lights have a super crisp cut off with ZERO scatter. I was seriously amazed. I went from a 55w 5000k kit to these and they're really that great.

I'd rate them like this ( brightness + range ):

OEM halogen: 3/10
55W HIDs : 6/10
LED 9/10

Go with the led, it's really that great. I would have said LEDs are 10/10 but the fans on the bulbs are a little loud after extended periods. Loud is maybe a strong word, audible I guess I'd say. It just sounds like your engine fan is on. Not a big deal and most people wouldn't notice. Make sure to install the bulbs with the leds being horizontal.

UPDATE.

Got my LEDs yesterday and installed them.....one word....WOW!!!

Pawelek were right! Not that I think you were lying but boy....HID and LED are night and day! LEDs are really superior over those HIDs. I didn't have a chance to drive them at night yet but just looking on the wall, the light output is fuller. No dark or uneven spots!

One question....did you sealed the hole you cut for the dust cover? I know the fan needs a place to expelled the air but at the same time that dust cover was sealed for a reason. Mine is open at the moment but thought about sealing them with some electrical tape but logic is telling me not to.

Also I can't have the LEDs horizontal (LEDs up and down). The only way to have it installed correctly is vertical (LEDs to the left and right) and reading the small installation manual it also said vertical installation. I have the H11 bulbs.

Thanks for that recommendation Pawelek!

I've been following the conversation over the last couple of pages and I'm a little unclear about a couple of things:

Are there any LEDs available for the H11B halogens? The side mounted connections are peculiar to the H11B and I don't want to make changes to my car's wiring to accomodate another connection arrangement. There are used car warranty issues.

Are all the LEDs available in only 6000K color temperature? I don't want a bluish light so I'd like to find something like 5000K LEDs.

Shoot, decent H11b bulbs of any kind were hard to find until recently. I have found no LED plug & play replacement bulbs. The best I can do is the GP-Thunder 7000K lamps, and as you noted, they're blueish (they are standard bulbs, not HID).

Now, just appearing blue is not a handicap for LED (or HID) bulbs. The Kelvin temperature determines the appearance. The LED lamps throw clear white illumination for the most part, unless they are artificially tinted, like many of the cheap halogen and xenon bulbs are. That takes light off the road, not what you want. Blueish LED bulbs (around 7500K +) aren't tinted (unless they are cheap knock offs), and the light cast isn't being shaded by a tint. I am not an engineer nor am I a colormetrics expert, so I can't tell you why (or how) that works, but it does.

They are not B connectors so I had to cut the plastic around the LED connectors to fit the connectors coming from the headlights. I have to pull the headlight connectors out from its little holder so I can get the length I needed to connect it to the LED. Because of the modification the connections are not tight or "clicked" so I wrapped electrical tape around them to ensure a tight fit and keep moisture out.

I had to pulled the wires out anyway when I had the HIDs. It is hard to find H11B HIDs as well.

Hope that make sense and I can take some pics if you need them.

It is 6000K and it looks white. The HIDs were 6000K as well and those were blueish.

I didn't see any 5000K bulbs when I clicked on the link provided by Palawek. I wanted 5000K as well because the experience I had with my HIDs but the LED 6000K is definitely white on the wall. I will have to take a drive at night to see if it was white or bluish on the streets. They do look whiter than the HID. I had one HID and one LED on during installation to compare.

Sorry, for some reason I did not get reply notification.

2010 Hyundai Santa Fe Canadian (DRL lights)

No flicker issues or anything with the T1?
So to conclude, H7 is for BOTH the high and low beams?

I don't fully understand what is special about the K7, does it emit more light? but not significantly enough to justify the price difference?

Thanks Pawelek!

They both look great, but you are paying a premium for the compact size and the more expensive bulbs are not CREE based LEDs, or at least the other model says it is and not this one. Canada has more variety of LED lamps available likely due to our weird restrictions here, and I was wondering why I didn't know what T1 vice K7 was, but it's the model numbers.

H11b bulb bases are hard to find any aftermarket parts for, and you are almost guaranteed to be taking a dremel to the base or replacing the incoming side of the wiring, so it really makes no difference. The H11 is the same as H11b electrical specs, the B part is just a twist and snap as opposed to standard clip based retention into the socket.

Thanks, well I just got the h7!

Attached ate pictures, because it doesn't fit in the clip based retention! I can't lock it in place.

Please, quick help is needed while car is in pieces lol...

Every installation is different, so the specific steps depend on what you want and what the part requires. For now, concentrate on getting it to work and then on staying put. Once you get that far, you can work on making it nice, neat & clean.

Thanks for the reply mate, 30 days later!
My mechanic actually got it installed like this:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/DIaJrbeLbtnTQulE3

But sadly I had to depart and move across provinces before he had time to install the H11 lamps (originals are H11b) - those don't fit at all, the connector is entirely different.

I am returning those to seller on Amazon... need to find alternative H11b that is 100% fit.

Here is link for the H11 status - I have nowhere to connect them to.

Go to your local auto store and buy some H11 pigtails. Snap out the OEM H11B connector, cut (leave 1" on the original) the H11B off. Install some connectors to splice in the new H11 pigtails and you're set. If you want to get fancy you can take out the headlight housings and hide the wires so that you can put the dust caps back on but I don't think it's worth the bother. Should take less than an hour to do and cost <$20.
