Excuses me of I missed something but you're trying to run a "Windows" phone with "Apple" Carplay? If that's the case then I see your problem. Carplay is solely designed for IPhone just as Android Auto is for phones running Android. I hope I understood your problem.

 

Here's a stupid question BUT......if I download Apple Carplay, will the factory nav system still work the same if my iphone is NOT connected via the USB port?

 

What Tony said. Carplay only works with Apple Iphone. Even if you have Android Auto, I think you're still out of luck because of that Windows phone. Our dealer makes sure that they pair the customer's phone with their new car when they take possession, and that everything works as advertised.

 

Nokia is a dying company. Windows mobile only has about 3% market share. Switch to android or iOS and actually use the radio with carplay or Android auto, you'll have a much better experience.

Personally my company phone is an iPhone 6 and I used it with carplay for several months. Then I switched to android auto with my personal phone and found that it's way better than carplay. Android Auto is the way to go. Shows you full album art picture, shows you directions from nav while showing spotify or vice versa.

 

I have to agree, Android Auto provides a much better experience than Apple CarPlay. Got an IPhone last Christmas to replace my Samsung and my biggest regret was losing Android Auto. Apple Carplay just seems too basic without the info cards that Android Auto has. AA is also much better looking in my opinion.

 

The title of this thread is a bit misleading too. The OP is not using carplay at all.

The advertising down here re the phone audio/ phone system is general not implicit..I suppose I should have asked the saleswoman a the direct question about the phone. The impression I got ,is that all phones would work.
AT NO TIME TIME WAS I TOLD ONLY APPLE PHONES WILL WORK.

 

most likely because the system is called APPLE car play. It's pretty obvious that the Apple phones would be the only ones that work with this system....

Like others have said, it may be time for a phone upgrade! can't go wrong with either android or apple. It sounds like you may not be as tech savvy so the apple may be better for you as it is a simpler system to learn.

I use it, but not everyday. For some things it works great, but other things it doesn't meet expectations. My take for the OP is that don't worry, you're not missing much.

 

I agree.. apple carplay is... OK.. but nothing to be desired. I really just use blutooth and its really just to listen to music from my phone.

 

Android Auto is better. For both I just like being able to select playlists from the head unit.
