What a mothers day! So for those of you that don't know both me and my wife have (had) a 2012 Sonata. Mine was white, hers is black. We called them ying and yang. Today on our way home from church, some 16 year old decided to run a red light going 55+ mph right into the side of my car. The car was totaled. The 16 year old was taken straight to the hospital. Myself and my wife are both sore, but we have no known injuries. The airbags deployed, and although they were very scary, I'm glad they were there. Am I sad my car is totaled? Yes...but am glad we were not injured. I am still pretty shaken up, and feel a bit like I'm floating, but I guess thats what's to be expected. The funny thing is that my car was the 2.4 and my wife's is the turbo...so I guess it was better mine totaled than hers.

Wow . Glad you guys are alright!
Glad your baby took care of you, and did her job of keeping you safe!

Glad to hear you and the wife are ok, hopefully you went to the hospital to get checked to be on the safe side.

It is a good testament to Hyundai safety that you are able to write this post from home.

Be safe, and good luck with the soreness tomorrow.

Wow! Glad you and your wife is OK. It could've been alot worse considering most side impact accidents involves serious injury or death.

On a side note, I guess Sonatas 5* side impact test score sure came handy. Hope you guys feel better.

You guys are certainly lucky. Glad you are Ok. We are going through the accident thing ourselves though not as serious as what you are going through.

Thanks everyone. I did not go to the hospital...but I am taking tomorrow off of work. If I feel like I do now, I will definatly get checked out. Although i was mad as ****, I still wanted to make sure the girl that hit me was ok, because she was not conscious at time of the accident. She was not available, but i talked to her mom..she has a concussion and 3 broken ribs...so at the end of the day ,myself and my wife faired a lot better than her. She is still in the hospital. her mom was a total mess, and understandably so. She was extremely nice, and could not be more apologetic. The girl will be 100% ok, so I am glad for that. All in all, I am very blessed...it could have been much worse. The girl just lost her dad about 3 months ago, he was soldier... so she is going through a lot right now. Normally I would be mad, but I'm not at all right now. I just feel thankful. My car will be replaced...who knows, maybe I will have a 2013 2.0 in the future.

It's at a tow yard right now...next time I see it I'll try to snap a few photos. I work in the insurance industry and can guarantee they are not going to lower their rates based off one accident or one letter. They pay actuaries a lot of money to determine premiums. Sometimes, it is a lot less expensive to insure a more expensive car and vice versa.

You are right, they will. I am a very safe driver, and have never caused an accident...BUT...it is not impossible for it to happen. ANYONE can cause an accident at ANYTIME...it takes a brief second with a lapse of judgement, and thats it. This girl did not intentionally hit me. She was not drunk or on drugs...so I do not feel suing would be right. If she was drunk...I would probably sue the **** out of her. I made illogical decisions when I was 16...and no one is perfect. Think about when you all were 16...did you ever make bad decisions? They didn't have cell phones when I was 16... But I know I checked my beeper a few times ;)

Lol...I'm just saying...there is no way to prove that...and people sue for it all the time when it's not true. I'm not going to make up some alement that is not affecting me just to get money.

Regardless of if you feel okay or not, you and your wife should still go to get checked out. Some injuries might not show symptoms until months or even years later. Better to be safe than to have problems pop up later down the road. I'm pretty certain insurance will cover the fee of the check up too.

I'm going to the hospital tomorrow because I'm sore as **** now. I'm not at all against getting my stuff paid for, but when people want me to sue just to sue....that's not me. If I have $100k in med bills, the I expect them to all be covered by her insurance. I am not going to embellish an injury to try to get more money though.

In 2007 I got hit by an 82 year old lady going through a Stop sign at 50mph. I had a '79 Ford Granada that was basically in mint condition. I got it dirt cheap and planned on keeping it as a living time capsule of sorts. That all ended pretty quickly. I plowed into her driver side wheel doing 40mph and all I remember was the loudest bang I ever heard and seeing everything around me spin. I had only a small bump on my knee, she was unconscious but ended up being ok. I still went to the hospital for a neck x-ray just in case, ended up having just some minor whiplash. I thanked God many times we both lived, that intersection has claimed the lives of many people. It's now a 4 way stop. The accident scared me enough I ended up buying an F-150 as a daily driver.

In the end the insurance paid me $1,000 more than what I bought the car for, and it saved my life with nothing but a seat-belt and a lot of heavy metal. I couldn't ask for anything else from it.

i was rear ended on the highway about 2 yrs and 10 days ago. Totalled our honda odyssey. i replaced it with the Sonata. now, insurance screwed me on my van. nothing i could do...but to sue -the insurance's own words! for the difference, i would have lost money hiring an attorney. i had whiplash. the insurance company is willing to settle with me for $1,500. I have not settled yet because i have spoken to three different people who had whiplash and they settled quickly. About three years later, they began having severe headaches and neck problems. doctors attributed these to a previous neck injuries (whiplash). they have been in and out of doctor's offices, neck braces and thousands of dollars due to a quick settlement. i'm like Black Turbo, i don't want a payday for a someones misfortune, but, i do expect them (insurance) to cover all future medical expenses related to any issues pertaining to a neck injury. btw..i found out that they 'are not on my side'. hint, hint!!!!
