"Navigation failed to authenticate"

All right. So ... I shelled out the bucks for the previously free update to the navigation system that brings CarPlay to my 2016 Tucson Limited.

The upgrade used to be doable on a Mac, but Mapnsoft only has a Windows installer. So, I tried a Virtual Machine. But the VM wouldn't connect to my SD card reader. I booted up to Windows through BootCamp, but my partition was too small to download and the crappy installer wouldn't let me switch the download to my large external drive. In the process of trying to figure out a workaround, I found the files that had downloaded on the virtual machine, and decompressed them. They looked just like the files on the SD card, with the addition of an Update folder and three other files with longish names starting with NAV. So I tried an experiment. I backed up the contents of the SD card, deleted those files, then copied the new files onto the card. I plugged it into the car and ran the update. It all went very smooth and when it rebooted, I had CarPlay.

Just one, minor hiccup — I get an error message every time the car starts "Navigation failed to authenticate." I got an authentication code, but never had the opportunity to enter it. Anyone know if there's a way to enter it after the update has installed, or to put it somewhere on the SD card?

It's not a big deal because I plan to use CarPlay navigation almost exclusively, but I would like to get rid of the error message.

Thanks!

If I had to guess, the activation or authentication probably occurs during setup only and you bypassed that.

Do you have access to any Windows computers to create the setup and try it again?

You can also reach out to Mapnsoft support - they are really good and quick to respond.

I'll check with Mapnsoft support.

I can probably get a friend to let me work from his Windows computer, but when you're talking about downloading installer apps and huge files, many people get understandably skittish.

I wish the app were better designed to allow you to select the destination drive for the download.
