SFS turbo AWD with no sunroof can get under 7 seconds but there is no way it's faster than a GTI. I have posted a time of 7.2 seconds with a second passenger on these boards running 89 octane. Dropping the passenger and putting in 91 or 94 octane would get me to about 7 seconds. But faster than a GTI... no.

I've owned many VWs, some with the 2.0T. Let me tell you, the VW 2.0T is NOTHING like the Hyundai 2.0T. Huge tuner community, three (3!!!) professional chip tuner vendors, tons of bolt-on mods, etc.

Love my SFS (disclosure: I bought the 2.4), but I think this is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison.

Nevertheless .. good conversation!

The stock GTI 2.0T reported 0-60 times are always sand bagged. It'll be closer to 6.2 untuned. The GTI will beat the SFS in a sprint from a light any day, especially with a DSG vs the slush box.

Tuned, the GTI can be around 5.7 or lower, so absolutely no competition there, but I know you're quoting stock for stock. The reported SFS 0-60 times are also sand bagged in reports, isn't it reported around 7.2?

I own a heavily modified 2008 GTI with a DSG.

Even the power/weight would tell you on paper than the GTI will be faster.

I could put my tune back to stock on the GTI and have a race somewhere to settle this, but convincing the wife to do so would be the hardest part!

yup you're right, I was thinking of the 2015 mk7 with 210 and less weight.

The same site had these times for the mk5/6 GTI, which are more or less identical to the mk6:

2013 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T AWD 0-60 mph 6.4 Quarter Mile 14.8
2010 Volkswagon GTI 3-Door Hatchback DSG 0-60 mph 6.0 Quarter Mile 14.5
2007 Volkswagen GTI 0-60 mph 6.1 Quarter mile 14.3
2006 Volkswagen GTI 0-60 mph 5.9 Quarter mile 14.6

Anyways, point is, no, haha.

And, to compare cars being faster in a straight line making one car superior is probably the lowest form to any comparison. Put a few twisties in the mix and the SFS will be on it's roof.

The GTI does an good job of keeping up to vehicles with a bigger price tags and more hp, it's a very well rounded car in terms of performance. On a Motortrend track comparison, it beat the almighty FR-S at willow springs. I'd like to see an SFS do that!

That being sad, I've yet had the chance to burn some of the other SUVs out there off the line because, yes, the SFS is pretty quick for a vehicle it's size and price, it'll be fun!

In all honesty I think the GTI is VW's best car still.I just found it funny that the sport would give it a run for its money.

I had a 2013 VW Tiguan new with 22 miles and the turbo lag was horrendous, that coupled with anemic shift pattern of the 6 speed just made it really annoying to drive.Wish they would offer a DSG in the Tiguan. I drove the Tiguan for 2k and had to get rid of it it made me what to crash it into a telephone pole.
