Just bought a pacific blue pearl limited and I love it. Just a question to the forum on whether or not people purchased the per paid maintenance plans and/or extended "wrap" warranty. I was nervous to do it as I know that's how most car companies make their profits, but when I sat down with my salesman I was informed that the Hyundai amazing warranty isn't everything that they claim it to be. Most things are only covered 3yrs/36,000 miles.

I purchased botht the wrap protection (extending my warranty on everything to 10 years/100,000 miles as well as a prepaid maintenance plan that covers everything for the first 4 years maintenance wise. Anyone else partake in these programs? Never bought a Hyundai so I figured I'll rest at ease every night knowing I have good coverage, God forbid anything goes wrong.

I purchased the "bumper to bumper" extended warranty from my dealer, for less than $900. Thus far, every car I had purchased has made good on the extended warranties, and I do expect something expensive will go wrong with this car sometime in the next 10 years/100K miles. In essence, it is an insurance policy to protect you from the unknown.

However, I did not get the pre-paid maintenance; it is easier for me to get the maintenance done closer to my house or do myself, and this car has very little maintenance to begin with. Besides, my dealer didn't offer one to me. (I wouldn't have gotten it anyway.)

I only condone factory warranties, 3rd party warranty companies are such a pain in the ass to deal with. Especially Diamond warranty. those guys are scum. Tried to tell me its ok to put a used abs block from a totaled junkyard car in one of my customers car because they said a new one is to expensive... f**k no...

900 for a warranty?

Just bought my Hyundai sonata GLS ( Canada model) today, they tried to sell me a warranty up to 160k (100k miles) for nearly 3 grand.

Ive had a Hyundai since 2001 ( elantra for a week(**long story**, then sonata, sonata, tuscon, now back to sonata) and never had a major problem with them even once. Only problem i had was the indicator stalk would sometimes just go back to off when you would turn it on, but other than that no problems

If i could get a 900$ warranty i would, considering if you dont use it you get all your money back that you paid for it ( thats what my salesperson said)

That may be why it was so cheap. I don't remember seeing anything in the fine print that stated I would get a refund if I didn't use it during the 10 yr/100K miles. That is, unless I cancelled it within that period, then there were some formulas. For me, it is just cheap insurance. If I use it great. If I don't, great. :D

Mine came with 5 yrs/100k, I paid something like $1200 for the extra 5 years, but may cancel it, since I've had the car only about 6 months, and put 18k on it. My dealer does offer an additional warranty...up to 20 yrs/200k, free of charge...Just have to do ALL major maintenance there. I do everything there. Every time I go in for oil changes, they check everything and fill all the fluids up. Also, I can get cheap (or sometimes free) oil changes from them. I give them a lot of business, so they return the favor.

Canadian cars (most I think) come with the 5yr/100,000km warranty, I got 5yr of free oil changes/air filter (4times a year) from my dealership as well... not sure if all dealers in the area do that, but I was told they don't by our salesguy... probably a catch to try and get you to do all maintenance there by offering some kind of discount.

This is strictly a personal decision. It really depends on how long you intend to own a car. To me, 5 or 6 years is my limit.

The original warranty of 5 years 50K and 10 years 100K on the drivetrain is more than adaquite for me although you did get a great price of $900 for extended 5 years. Still, really not for me.

Good luck and "HAPPY MOTORING"

Warranty

All warranty programs are different. The $900 warranty probably has many exclusions, the $3,000 CN warranty better cover everything short of oil changes and brake pads...

It's a personal decision; there is no right or wrong answer. It boils down to risk aversion. Just like any insurance policy, you choose them, pay your monthly fee and hope to heck you never use them. But if you do, you're darn glad you bought one.

I've bought them for 2 vehicles and "won" (e.g received more $ benefit than I paid for the coverage). I've had a couple where I didn't buy the warranty and that turned out to be in my favor. I bought one for my Sonata because I will either drive it into the ground or give it to one of my kids. So, I am fine with it. I paid $1,300 for very inclusive extended coverage...

wait a tick.........

first off......manu says "many parts on hyundai's is only 3/36"

my question is ..Like what?

second...and more important...these dealer offered extended warranties are from Hyundai.....right?

additionally.......I hear many of these are only good at the dealer you purchased it from...which sux for anyone who moved away..and most of us will. is this true about only getting the service at the dealer you bought if from?

I've heard it's not like the original hyundai warranty at all...and involves a lot of phone calls and asking pretty please for permission in advance of repairs..

My dealer initially offered an extended warranty from a third party which I declined. They then came back with the offer of a Hyundai backed extended warranty - clearly they do better margin wise on the third party offering. I haggled my way to $1,000 (original offer was about $1,800) to extend everything to 100K miles. I never used to purchase extended warranties, but with all the gizmos in these cars, something costly is likely to fail at some point. I know there are plenty of exclusions (water leaks etc) but for $1,000 or $200/year assuming I keep the car for five years, it's a peace of mind payment.
