Led Front Sidelight

I have a 2007 model and decided to try a couple of LED bulbs in the front sidelights. However they do not work. Is there a particular reason why I cannot just fit these? The bulbs are OK, tried them on the battery and the original standard bulbs work fine.
I found a thread from someone in Australia who had fitted what looked like the same bulbs but i cannot find it again!!
Anyone got an answer

Given that the whole light assembly is plastic then both the power lead and the ground lead have to be brought to the bulb socket. Could well be that the polarity going to the lamp is reversed from what would be expected had the lamp got its ground through a metal reflector connected to the chassis.

If the LED bulb lights OK from a battery, then the reason it will not work in the car is because it is getting reversed polarity, which is quite possible given the way in which it gets its power and chassis connections.

Use a voltmeter to find out which lamp connection is the +12 source, and troubleshoot from there.

thanks, I would never have thought of that

You shouldn't have had to think of it -- that's just wrong! I can't recall the last time I ran across a positive ground vehicle. Let the source you bought them from know that they've got it backwards and with any luck, they'll pay attention and you will save a few fellow customers some grief. Good thing you were prepared to swap things around.

Confusion here, it is the Santa Fe wiring that is wrong...
Ah, got it. When you said "I will get the lamp out", I thought you meant the LED assembly!

Still - that's stranger yet. You rarely see a socket wired that way - if for no other reason than the tradition of dual contact bulbs where the ground HAS to be on the shell. I'll have to take a peek at hmaservice.com.

OK -
the left lamp +12 should be a green wire, the ground a black.
the right lamp +12 should be a yellow wire, the ground a black.

What did you find? Was it just the socket wired backwards, or did they mess up the harness?

Be wary that many car brands use different wiring colour standards in North America and RoW, particularly nominally foreign cars built in US plants, like Hyundai and Subaru.

I feel sure that the hmaservice website is accurate for US-built cars but those built in Korea, as the OP's will have been, may well be different in detail.
