Just spoke to my Local Hyundai dealership regarding replacing what appears to be a faulty brake switch on my terri. Holy Crap !!!!!!!, they tell me that there is not one brake switch in the country and that they have 1600, yes you read it right, 1600 on back order.
They also have no idea when they will be arriving, I sure hope mine does not crap itself completely.
There must be an awfull lot of Hyundai's out there with the same issue.

It is really unbelievable. But the fact they have 1600 brake switches on back order means only one thing: Hyundai has documented this fault and issued a "replacement" service to be done to all of the cars having it.

Part number installed in mine as replacement for the original one is: 93810-38110 and has given no problems since. This was done in August 2009.

guys

My Terracan stops intermittently only. Driving conditions just prior to stalling are that I am applying brake, driving speed around 30-40 Kmph, and mostly when rounding corners, or running on rough ground. I suspect brake switch is faulty as the stopping only happens when I brake under these conditions.
Can someone tell me where the switch is located so that I can remove it for inspection or replacement.

Thanks

Treherne.

Brake switch is located at the brake pedal mechanism. You will find it held by a nut and it goes touching the brake pedal main member.

But I am suspecting your problem is not there. It seems you have something loose (bad contacts) that is killing your engine during vibrations and certain vehicle movements.

The brake switch problem when it happens, it kills engine power for a few seconds, but does not turn engine off. Most times, the check engine light will flicker for those same seconds the engine looses power.

I had a problem with the engine cutting power when cornering and it turned out to be the stability control was cutting the engine because the brake switch was actuated whilst cornering, adjustment of the switch was all that was required on mine, but if your brake switch contacts are faulty, the symptoms could be something similar.

Hi. I replaced my terracan brake switch. It was on the floor/bulkhead under the pedal. Very easy and quick. About 10 mins. Cost about ÂŁ22. It was a while ago but i think i used a 10mm socket and spanner. Hesitation under acceleration was problem and this seemed to solve it, certainly until i sold car. Hyundai dealership did not (would not?) diagnose problem. Garage from where i bought car (not hyundai dealer) told me there is lots of spurious nonsense on forums such as this and would be unlikely to be so easily fixed. I have to thank a member from south america for helping me to diagnose this potentially dangerous fault. (don't recall his name I'm sorry to say). Thank You. Just as well there are forums such as this. Jack.

Hi. Just found the member to thank for terracan brake switch diagnosis. RBURGOSS. Thank you. You saved me money and hassle and, who knows, maybe more. Shame hyundai can't see past their corporate nonsense and help people to enjoy their products safely. It's irresponsible. I wonder how many accidents have been caused as a result of easily solved faults like this??

You're welcome sir. This forum (as well as many other forums dedicated to hundreds of products and services around the world) has proven to be an invaluable wealth of knowledge. I myself have gotten several good tips and solutions from this forum.

The 93810-38110 may for old Sonata - XG switch here in USA,, see if they have a 93820-3K000 or -3K000-QQH to use instead,, seems to me I have done thta here in the past.

Let me know if that number works over there, it is typically $5 USA, we keep them/use them by the box full at our place
