Hi all, I'm new to the forum and I've seen many great posts all around. I have a 2016 Santa Fe Sport with base everything and I am looking to upgrade the infotainment system first and foremost. I have seen Hyundai's own 8" navigation system and I really like it. However, I am open to other after-market options. The one in my car is the standard model, which doesn't have a backup camera - it's just small and blue. Like I said, very basic. And ideas on how I should go about doing this? I read somewhere on here that it wouldn't work connecting the new 8" Hyundai nav on the standard model, but other people have said it should work just fine? BTW, I am also looking at adding a backup camera too. Any help at all would be appreciated, thanks!

To connect the original equipment from Hyundai, you'll have some problems. First, the GPS unit is taller than the standard unit. Second, there's additional cabling you'll have to connect (GPS antenna, etc.), That's not easy work. You'd have to get an original camera from Hyundai as well, because it's the only one which works with original GPS unit. I suggest you go for the aftermarket ones, they'll fit your current dashboard and wiring, and there's plenty of other features, mainly with Android ones.

I just picked up a 2014 SFS with the 8" nav and wondering what would happen if I tried to put a 2017 unit in there so I can take advantage of Carplay/android auto?

Does it make more sense to find an aftermarket solution? I haven't had much luck finding a solution from the big name mfgs ...

I love the car and the big screen but would love to have waze/google maps as the integrated nav. I know the cheap solution is just mount my phone to the dash but ...

Ok, I am about to do the samething nothing would happen if you put a 2017 nav unit... I have a 2014 SFS as Well and I am about to purchase a 2017 nav unit. now we don't have around view monitoring so that feature won't work but we do have reverse camera. I will purchase the Metra harness kit to keep all functions and features and wire it in.. Yes, you get CAR PLAY AND ANDROID AUTO. The only problem is the unit is expensive. Around 500-1000 used.

You may want to see if you can find the cost for updating the NAV maps. Android Auto or Apple Car Play may be a better way to go. We didn't want the NAV system because of the cost to update the maps and the frequency of the updates, actually lack of...

Android Auto can also run standalone on your phone without a head unit. Not sure about Car Play. If it is just maps, you can download the Google Maps data for your area. Maybe even use a cheapie tablet.

The map update for the NAV was $169 which I reluctantly paid since the previous owner never updated and it was on v6.5 I think (11.5 now). I won't do that again just for the map/POIs though. I've found myself double checking the NAV routes with Waze on my phone and then driving accordingly.

I wasn't even thinking about using the NAV when I bought it (just liked the big display and all of the other features) but now that I know 2017+ support AA/Car Play I'm itching to figure out a way to use that nice big screen. A tablet is a good idea on the cheap but I'm interested in a clean, integrated solution.
