I10 Heater

..........it's a bit rubbish isn't it (or is that just mine?). Fair enough, I only work about 10 miles away but my car has stll barely started to heat up even as I'm pulling into the car park. I usually set the dial to number 2 and have the windscreen blower on as it's too cold to blow it at me whilst it tries to warm up.

Any tips/useful suggestions (other than wear scarf/gloves/big coat)?

Hi, you must have one of the i10s that does lots of MPG, If your car is using very little petrol then it will not be producing a lot of heat for the miles being driven, If there was a diesel i10 then the amount of heat would be even less for the miles driven. once the cab is warm and you turn the heater down then like mine it will blow too hot after 3 miles and the temperature gauge will read 90 deg c.

Has anyone found that if you turn the dial to full heat if moves back a little mine does it wont stay on full. Maybe its just mine but I thought I would check before taking to the dealer.
I was also wondering whether this was normal, it obviously is a quirk of this model so no problem.

If your I10 is not heating up like you would expect any car to heat up then you have got a problem probably the thermostat.
Take it to your dealer.
My I10 heats up just like all my other cars that I have ever had.
If your engine takes a long time to warm up it is going to use more fuel, the quicker it reaches optimum working temperature then the more efficient it will be.

Longshot.

My heater will blow warm air after a mile or so, despite the current cold weather. The car is garaged overnight, which might make some difference, but it shouldn't take several miles to warm up, so I'd take your i10 back to the dealer and let them have a look (Dicky thermostat, maybe?). When at normal running temperature, my i10 temp gauge reads around the 90 mark, and in the 15 months I've had the car, I've only once heard the engine fan cut in, so it doesn't run overly hot either.

Mine takes several miles on a quiet day to get warm and there's nothing wrong with it. It sits at 80 - 90 degrees on the motorway. Slower than some cars I've owned but faster than some others, specifically diesel cars which often have large water capacities.

If I use the car when traffic is busy, it'll be warm in less than 1 mile.

It's TIME that's needed to warm the engine up, not necessarily distance covered, although the cooling effect of driving along will delay it slightly.

Mine warms up in about 2 miles. Try the blower on 1 - we've found it's enough most of the time. Also, put the recirculate button on for the first few minutes/miles, then it's warming the air in the car, not always battling against the really cold stuff from outside.

'Recirculate' worked a treat - thanks. Took max 3 mins to warm up enough to turn blower from 2 to 1. No more driving about like a blooming popsicle.
Thanks KDC for same suggestion, though I thought you were being funny when you wrote "put the air con on"!

I took mine back to the dealer for this as it wouldn't turn past about 3 o'clock. They said it had 'come out of the clip' whatever that means. It is fine now and goes almost all the way around and stays there :)
