I can't drive in ECO mode

Seriously. I saw some posts yesterday about some of you that use ECO mode so I decided to try it a bit more. I just can't do it. I step on the gas and the car goes nowhere. It seems counter-intuitive to have a the turbo run on ECO mode. I could understand the 2.4L people running it on ECO, but how can you guys do it?

I'd like to get used to it but I feel like a snail coming off a stop light. And I'm not the kind of guy that guns it a millisecond before it turns green. I ease out but with a little bit of speed.

What is it that makes you guys stick with ECO?

I know I said I wasn't going to use it anymore, but after reading this thread I want to give it one more try. This time I filled up with 89 octane ($.25 cheaper than 93, so I figured one tank won't hurt) and I will leave it on from beginning to end of tank. I will report back in about 10-14 days when I'm empty.

I hate the dual personality the ECO creates and much harder to drive smooth with it on IN TOWN. I have hardly even pushed that button since the 1st month or 2 since purchase.

I've tried it off for a while but decided to leave it on, so there is sits, I've had it on pretty much ever since I bought the car a year ago.

Still heaps of power.
I came from a VW TDI......so everything is more powerful by comparison.

When a heavy foot is applied it feels to me like it still accelerates just as much as when as when it's off.

I don't need to drive around like I stole it all the time.
It's comfortable cruising car - and the majority of the time I'm just not in that big of hurry to go anywhere.

Nice to know it goes like a fat to to a chocolate bar when I want it to though.

It's almost as fast as my 97 Z28 for all intensive purposes - and certainly quicker than my 67.

Love it.

You're not doing anything, other than exercising your finger.

ECO affects the shift points to save RPMs and fuel economy. When you're highway cruising in the last gear, there's no difference between ECO on or ECO off.

I've been running with it ON after a coule years with it off. The big difference I notice is coming out of turns, it holds the higher gear for more gradual acceleration.
With ECO off, it will drop to a lower gear, giving you faster accelerations, louder engine, more fuel.
From a dead stop (same % throttle), it will shift sooner, again slower acceleration, quieter running, less fuel.

I ran my first few months of owning the car with ECO on, and actually got better fuel economy after turning it OFF.

Most likely due to me not feeling the need to mash the gas pedal to actually have the car move at a dead stop. I'm not really a speed demon and generally pick a speed then set the cruise control and don't gun it from a dead stop, however with the SLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW acceleration with ECO on, I did find myself needing to give more gas to achieve a comfortably feeling acceleration.

I usually use ECO mode as a reminder to drive smoothly as opposed to "spirited" when I have a passenger. Does quite a good job at it too!

I'll use it in very light traffic, like when I'm going to work at 0400. When there's other vehicles around I turn it off. I prefer the better throttle response in case I need to make evasive maneuvers.

in my 2011 santa fe 3.5L automatic tranny, it's not hard at all to accelerate normal steady speed with eco light staying on...this all depends on what we, I or you consider steady and normal ?
even at highspeeds, if accelerating, but not easily..it stays on..
but why does it turn off on its own when I reach 120ks/hr ? I guess its saying at that speed it's just not efficient.. ?

I don't know if this is bad for the car or not, but what I do is turn ECO on if I'm already going over 40-50 mph.... I like to have it off when starting from 0 mph to get a good acceleration, then switch it back on. I am not sure if this harms the car in any way. Can anyone comment on the matter?

I turn it on after I get up to speed on the highway around 70mph. I don't think it hurts anything, just changes electronic settings telling the car how to act.

I've waited until a straight part of the highway and set my cruise at 70 mph to turn on ECO with the instant MPG screen showing. After I hit the button, the MPG increased slightly and doesn't go down as much on slight inclines. I think the ECO changes settings so not as much fuel is injected under light driving conditions, maybe all the time? If you accelerate with the ECO on and during accelerating turn ECO off, I think you will notice more "gitty up" kick in probably due to more fuel being injected. Who knows, depends who you ask I guess.
