Hyundai Tucson Boot Problem - Opening by itself!

Hi there, I live in Sydney (OZ) have owned my Tucson 2015 for 2 months now, I rarely drive it because I take the train to work so my observation is still not comprehensive but it's been 3 times now that after walking back from the shops, myTucson's boot is opened! The key was in my bag during these times and you have to press and hold the button for more than 2 seconds to activate the power tailgate function.
This never happens in my home garage, only when I'm out, seems like it's being opened by a different remote or malfunctioning.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I have heard that Elantra and Sonata have these issues.

Appreciate any reply.

Many Thanks

I have had this happen to me and it took some detective work to figure out why. In my case, it was the proximity key/remote. What I have noticed is that that its range is significant. I have found that I can unlock, lock, open and close the boot from 20 stories up in an office building when the Tucson was within sight of the remote. I've also found that the remote has buttons that when it's in your pocket can activate a button if you have spare change or other items. Perhaps you are seeing a variant of this?

Another data point. I have never seen this happen at home as I have an underground car park in my condo. Thus there's no way for this to happen as the key fob/remote would never be able to reach the car.

Mine has done this a few times. It has always been when the key was in my pocket along with another item that seems to have pushed the button when I was sitting down. Since discovering this, I make a habit of returning it to the key basket instead of leaving it in my pocket all the time...no problems since.

It happened to me . Left the keys in my pocket with my phone and some change. Was enough to press and hold button. Actually got to watch as it happened.
Too bad there wasn't a slider to protect buttons.

Also got hit in the back with the gate as I was shoveling the driveway ;) activated liftgate. At first I thought my wife was trying to back over me. Phew...

Yes this a common problem with the Tucson. The tailgate is being opened by your key fob. When you are at home the fob is not in contact or being moved in any way, but in your bag all sorts of things are touching it and so the very long reach of these fobs opens the tailgate from some distance away. Put the fob in a small box and cover the buttons with a cut up piece of an old credit card taped on in some way. You have lost the functionality of the fob but it saves long and pointless conversations with your insurance company. Do not think that turning of the function will solve the problem it will not, it is a function of the fob not the car sensors....Good luck

I have a 2018 Tsucon and my trunk continues to open on its own. Many times after locking and going shopping I come out and trunk opened. I have been driving and it opens, it is so scary when my groceries fall out. Is there a way to disable? I really wanted this feature and I am so disappointed.
