Have been thinking to upgrade our Santa Fe, starting to have second thoughts because of this mileage &$up. We just drove from San Diego to Vegas, moderate driving with flow of traffic. Some traffic in Vegas, trip said 26mpg, actual 25.1mpg. If new one is not able to even get 27mpg as stated, then don't see why to get new Sant Fe, need to look into more economical options. Anyone dare to speculate what is wrong with 2.0T in SF? 3.3 with older 5-speed auto delivers 'almost' similar numbers...

I know everyone had added their $.2 but here is my theory..

Hyundai knows how much mpg you are getting from the "little black box" inside your vegicle, every time you fill up it registers to your car and shares the info with Hyundai, it is also available for you to view online. My thought is that they should be reimbursing us on the 'actual' mileage we are getting VS. what they say we should be getting. I have yet to pass the 22 MPG mark in my Santa Fe and I am borderline a "Hyper Miler"

Where is this available to be viewed online as I have not seen it in my BlueLink reports??

see below for my eco-coach.

D
Hahaha, guess what the ECO coach numbers are WRONG! They are based on what the car is reporting, which is the 2 MPG OVER reporting that the car does. I can tell because I pulled up my report and sure enough it matches what the dashboard was reporting the MPG was at those fill ups, not what the true calculated MPG was which was always 2 MPG less than what the dash says. So Hyundai thinks I'm getting 20.6 MPG when in fact I'm getting 18.6 MPG!

Image

So yes, please compensate me on the difference between 18.6 MPG average and the newly stated 23mpg average that Hyundai claims I should get. That's 4.4 MPG, not the paltry 2mpg that Hyundai is offering...

Oh and let's not forget the decreased value of my car...

No MPG reimbursement claim, no warranty work allowed!

I had my oil changed for the first time at my local dealer this morning and the service advisor told me that he needed to submit my mpg reimbursement claim. I told him I did not want to register a claim to get reimbursed at this time. He then proceeded to tell me that I could not get any warranty work done on the vehicle until I registered for the claim. We pulled up the website http://hyundaimpginfo.com and went over the info. He understood what the website states but he insisted that in their system that they could not enter any warranty work without registering a claim for the first time. I declined as I was not getting any warranty work done on this visit anyway. I did complain about the actual mpg, the fuel gauge discrepancies and the displayed mpg being way off and they did offer to look at them if I registered.

Any of you heard of such a thing?

No, haven't heard such a thing, in fact I had warranty work done just last week without issue. I would immediately report your dealer to Hyundai corporate so at least your complaint is on file. If that's true that Hyundai would not do warranty work without you submitting your reimbursement request they would be in violation of federal law and subject to huge fines and penalties and you can bet another lawsuit against Hyundai would be firing right up. I imagine it is your service writer's way of trying to get people to accept Hyundai's reimbursement offer, now whether or not he was directed to do that by someone higher up the food chain would be interesting to find out...

I received this email yesterday..........my card is coming with my rebate for about 2500 miles of driving. I used a work order from the dealer with the claim form to validate the mileage on the SF.

Thank you for submitting your claim for the Hyundai MPG Reimbursement Program. You should be receiving your Hyundai MPG MasterCard® Reward Card in the mail within the next 7 to 10 days. This is your initial reimbursement. Remember you can file claims for future miles driven for as long as you own your Hyundai vehicle.
Your Hyundai MPG MasterCard® Rewards Card may be redeemed anywhere MasterCard is accepted, at over 32 million locations worldwide. Additional details and activation instructions will accompany your card.
If you do not receive your card or need assistance activating it, please contact our Customer Service Department at 1-888-867-8032.

Need Help

I purchased a 2013 Santa Fe Sport on November 25, 2012 and I'm just trying to catch up with all the complaints that are coming out about this particular model. In particular, I think I may be experiencing the MPG issue but I'm not sure. Can someone please bring me up to date. I know there is a re-enbersment program ( gas card), but I don't qualify because of the cut off date. Is there anything I can do? Who should I talk to first about my current issue. In addition, I'm also curious to know if their is a place in this forum where I can find information about the steering issues associated with the Santa Fe. I would really appreciate it if someone can give me some information on this subject matters...
Thanks
FYI, I'm a new member.

Again :00000732:

You started a "steering issues" thread. Keep an eye on that for related info.

Please don't "hijack" other threads with other issues by changing the topic. It will make it even more difficult when trying to locate info about specific topics. e.g. who would think to look in a MPG thread to find info about steering problems?

so why can't this hy-tech car send it's own mileage? seem the blue link can tell you the mileage and the dealer told me that when the car gets to the first oil change he will know and send me an email telling me I need to come in for that oil change.
also the dealer keeps telling me that after the first oil change the mileage will start to improve. so what do they do at that time reprogram the car so now it knows it has gone past the required breaking and can now lower it's fuel consumption and get better mileage? or is that the magical number that means I can't do anything about the poor mileage and now I'm just plain stuck with this sorry car that gets poor mileage? my 06 cobalt beats the pants off this brand new hy-tech car hands down on mileage. it also performs tons better. I only wish I could have driven the car for a week or two before I decided to buy it. so much for hy tech gadgets for me. bp.

Hyundai Debit Card ??

I`m just wondering how many (qualifing) folks here on the Forum have applied for the Hyundai Gas Debit Card?

How is it working out for you?

Did it come with a pin number?

Is it a pain to use?

Anything we should know?

I know that we have until Nov. 2nd. of this year to apply, and that we can do it on line, but I`m getting my first oil change soon and may do it then. My service guy said he would handle everything for me.
Thanks...Cheers..;););)

Bump.....

Now that some time has passed since the above question was asked, I figured it wouldn`t hurt to ask it again.

I just brought mine in for service, and applied for the card at the same time. Seems that at 3,214 miles, I
can expect $45.38 to be on it when I get the card in a few weeks.

Qualifing owners can bring their vehicles in to a dealer as often as they want, to have their mileage recorded, for as long as they own the vehicle. Each visit will add more $ to the card, based on miles driven since the last visit, plus an additional 15% of those $.

So, to those who have the card, how has it worked out? Any problems? :puzzled: :puzzled:

Had mine in for some warranty work at 4,780 miles. Had the mileage noted then, and got my card ($64.30) in the mail shortly after.

Keeping with the concept of the program, I decided to use it for gas purhases only. The only "pain" in using the card is you can't swipe it at the pump, you have to go in and prepay. I don't normally do this, so I wasn't sure how it worked. First use was a fill up that I calculated would around $35. I told the clerk to prepay pump so and so with $40. I then filled the tank. I got a receipt for the amount of the fill up, not the $40.

The next fill up I knew would exceed the balance of the card. I told the clerk to put the remaining balance, down to the penny, on my pump. The pump shut off at that amount. I used my credit card for the rest of the fill up.

I've had these type of cards before, and it's difficult to use up the entire balance. Buying gas this way allows you to use it up 100 percent.

My initial "outrage" at the mis-stated mileage softened a bit when I got the card. Gas is cheaper lately, so my next one won't be as well compensated, but I look forward to getting these for as long as I have the car.

FYI, when you register the card online, there's a link to track the cards balance, which is nice. It does take a few days after a purchase to update though.

Ken, I understand how you must feel:

My son tells me that there is nothing in the Hyundai reimbursement program that would prevent one from joining a class action suit at a later date.

Do you have advice to the contrary?

For myself, I have no intentions of doing so. While I am disappointed in the EPA MPG 'revised' numbers, and hope that it was an honest mistake, I think the reimbursement program is fair.

After all, they are giving me back the money I have to lay out because I`m [supposed] to be getting 2 MPG less than the original sticker MPG....Plus an additional 15%...As long as I own it...Should I get even better MPG than the revised number, even a bigger plus. :whistling:

In any event, that`s the way I feel. I know there strong feeling elsewhere to the contrary....Happy Trails

a more fair settlement may not even happen. and as for the amount we got 6.50 on a debit cart for 3500 miles. this car sucks and we are now looking at other cars. it will not even beat my 06 cobalt in mileage summer or winter. cobalt gets 30 mpg for 50/50 and 28mpg for 75/25 h/c . hsh gets 32mpg 100% h/c and 25mpg 50/50 h/c . that sucks for a $25k car that is suppose to be so advanced.

Just got my mileage verified yesterday at around 4300 miles, I wonder what that will work out to? The young man said it would take up to 30 days for the initial reimbursement and if it was under $10 they cut a check rather than issue a debit card. I will wait for further payments and add them to a debit card and maybe get a free oil change once a year or something like that. I had them start the process so i would know for sure that I was in their system, seeing as how I had to mail a claim form in because my dealer couldn't find my car in the system (I bought mine on 9-30-12).

I`m guessing that you can expect approximately $50 based on your 4,300 miles. More to come as you put on miles.

I have the same vehicle as you and I got $45 and change on 3,214 miles. Of course, it`s also figured on the price of gas in your area...Currently in Delaware it`s $3.69 on average.

BTW...I registered last Friday, and got an email today saying the card has been mailed..

#243 ·
Yep! You have the same Santa Fe as I do..Our models have a 2 MPG EPA adjustment...At $4.00 a gallon, you can expect at least $50 on your first go-round.

The guy with the $6.50, I couldn`t tell you about that...doesn`t sound right, even tho he has a hybrid.

dave_graham got $85.00 @ 9,000 miles..
:right:

Also, it's still unclear whether you receive a new card each time you file for for your rebate, or if the first one you receive gets reloaded when you refile. The FAQ on the card activation site says to destroy it once it's empty, but the paperwork you receive with the card tells you to keep it, as it gets reloaded. Hyundai hasn't responded to emails requesting clarification.

Thanks for posting that - it's an interesting article and I would opt for a lump sum payment depending on the amount.

the whole incident is a PR black eye for Hyundai/Kia and personally I cannot accept that it was all just a simple oversight of the testing procedures - too much other marketing hype thrown out there about industry leading fuel efficiency and what not. So I think they are looking to settle this things as expediently as possible and without a detailed investigation of this so called simple oversight of not following the test procedures. I have to believe there were people within Hyundai and Kia who had some sort of knowledge that their products weren't quite as fuel efficient as they had hoped, all manufactures have test tracks where they subject vehicles to numerous testing procedures. High mpg ratings are a big selling point, no question about it.

I`m [guessing] that if it goes that far, that Hyundai will have to provide the court with a list of qualifing owners, and they in turn will then be asked if they want to be added to the class action suit. Can`t think of any other way it would work. :puzzled:
