Hybrid Taillights

I went the motor trend auto show this past weekend and I visited the Hyundai layout. They had all of the new models displayed including the Equus, Sonata Turbo, Elantra, Genesis, and the few Crossovers but what I was really checking out what the Sonata Hybrid I'm not gonna buy one but it really looks good in person. I don't mind the front end as much as I thought I would, they had it on display where you could get in it and check it out unfortunatly I didn't get any pictures of the interior or the Bluelink like I wanted but I did snap some exterior pics which I will upload... the odd thing was that they had the hood release handle removed so you could not pop the hood to see the motor, I thought that was odd but maybe its because its not released yet they don't want spy shots or something I honestly don't know.

One thing I was really looking close at was the taillights because I read on here that no one could confirm if the taillights were interchangable so I took some close up pictures of them and I really think the will fit but I'm still not 100% sure. I will upload the pics later when I get home and get them off the digital camera but they look great, its just enough chrome and red to not look aftermarket. I have no idea how they wire in and if there is any difference there but maybe someone can confirm that these will or will not fit. Like I said pics will be posted later so that should help in knowing if they will fit. Thanks.

I could always fit them and return the parts, perks of the job! I'm sure they will fit, it makes no sense to redesign the whole tail lamp pocket just because it's a hybrid. I'm sure if you bought the front bumper, fender and hood you could also make that fit too, the main body and frame should be the same.

Yea that's what I'm thinking I actually found another thread over in the hybrid section and it had the taillights pictured I litterally carried my laptop out with the pic blown up and its looks dead on, everything looks like it will be a direct drop in. Now the question is where do we get them and the price? Shark Racing was my first thought but I would assume they would be put up soon since the cars are about to be released meaning the parts are being manufactured...

Well it's still a brand new car, you won't find any after market tail lights yet so the only ones you will be able to buy are the oem ones. Hyundai dealers will have them soon i'm sure because a hybrid that crashes needs replacement parts! Trust me Hyundai have already thought about it! They will be pretty expensive though i'm sure, I might even be able to sell them since I get oem parts at wholesale price. Keep tuned!

l would almost think it would be a closer wiring fit than the OEM Korean version. However, are they LED or just some funky lens?

Actually, I have doen comparison as well and the hybrid tailights are designed exactly the same as the non-hybrid sonata with the exception that they are LED (yes even the funky lens part is also LED). The only parts that are not is the turn signal and the back up light. However, I'm not too sure about the wiring since the hybrid is being built in S. Korea but it may be similar to the U.S. version. But one thing is for sure that you will need to run a power cable from the main tail light to the trunk to power the trunk portion of the brake light (similar to the one that Shark Racing sells).

Ok so I'm all for getting a set of these I don't mind having to run a wire to the trunk brake light as long as I can just repin the connector and bring a wire out of that I really don't want to splice and cut because that's where you have promblems and id rather not go that route.

Eyecue see what you can do about getting a set of these for me asap lol I will also contact boogyman and see if he can supply me with a set since these are most likely made in Korea maybe he can get them from modis or one of his connections.

Joeeey if you see this post please pm me or post up here because I will need your help to get these working and you are really good with wiring. Also I might need to get some pointers for removing the front bumper...

I could be wrong but those tail lights look funkier than normal looks like a camera effect, you know the kind that blurs light and makes squiggly lines lol, don't know the technical term! For sure led though.

Yea I know what your saying I saw them in person and I don't know if they really light up that way or not (I didn't see them light up) but you would think it would have to be an added part to the lense to get that effect. If they do light up like that then its kinda cool but kinda weird (meaning different) at the same time... if you look close its almost like it was done on purpose since they are only "available" on the hybrid model it looks like an atom with all of its protrons and electrons circling around it.

I would agree, seems like they were looking to achieve the look of an Atom, being it's a hybrid.

I'm so **** that all the other versions of our car have nice taillights and we get some ol regular ****!! What kind of crap is that? Hyundai should be giving us the option to trade them in for one's with the LED's that are out!! I would even pay a couple bucks for them in addition to giving mine back. Even though these lights were included in the stupid Optima, Sonata Hybrid and also the Korean Sonata!!!!

I wanted to post up an update on these, while at my dealer yesterday I stopped into the parts dept and asked them to look up the part numbers and price. I had to give them a VIN to a Hybrid (found it on Ebay) so that his computer would allow him to do a search, OMG are these expesnsive! I almost **** myself when he handed me the printout, $1002.37 for the complete set of taillights. I know these look cool but they are not worth that much in any way, shape, or form. As much as I want these I won't spend that amount.

Maybe Ken from Shark Racing can eventually get these, and maybe he can offer them slightly cheaper as he does on the other LED taillights. When I asked him a few months ago he told me he could not get them because the Hybrid was not released in Korea yet.

If anyone would like me to post the part numbers I can later when I get home.

That might just be stealership price, dealers are known to markup parts like crazy for walk in customers. If you got em from me or (online sooner or later) i'm sure they would be a lot cheaper.

give me the part #'s for the hybrid tail lights and i can let you know what i can get them for. include the part #'s for all 4 of them

on another part, i saw a hybrid in person the other day and TBH i like the led tails that come on the korean version better.

They look better in the picture on page one of this thread compared to real life. thats my opinion.

they remind me of those cheap clear/chrome tails made by APC...etc lol

Hmm I haven't seen them in person lite up yet but when I saw them on the hybrid at the auto show they looked really good. I have a Venetian Red so I thought the chrome housing might look good and help tie the rest of chrome trim and accents together.

Ill post the p/n's for all 4 peices later when I get home I work a double shift today so it will be late.

On another note I wonder who will step up and design a black housing or even carbon fiber housing taillight. Even if they aren't LED they might still look good. All depends how they position the lenses and such.

i snapped a few photos today as I was leaving the dealer, I also took a shot of the horrible wheels they selected and a shot of the lower chrome molding they installed. the upper chrome molding is still on the car but appeared to be masked off.

anyhow... ENJOY!

The tails looks ok unlit, maybe nicer when actually lit up. I like the rear bumper and side molding, not too bad. I hate the wheels.
