How can I turn off the day time running lights on the car? I turned the light switch to the off button but it still turns on when I drive. How do I go about to turn this off?

I want them off as I am sitting in a parking lot with my lights shining into an apartment window at 2 am. Would be nice to not have to cut the engine out wake the neighbors while I am waiting to pick someone up.
In 2001 GM petitioned the NHTSA tonmake DRL mandatory. In 2002 GM decided to remove standard ABS from their cars and make it an option. They also removed side airbags from a dozen or so models. I don't think their push for DRL has anything to do with safety at all.
Same here...at night i turn on my parking lights (drl for 2k12 elantra)...the highs are very dim...tailgate them...and turn on my opt-7 6k led lows/fogs...then they turn on the lights....it takes them awhile to know that "i can't see in the dark..my headlights are getting dimmer..i have to drive slower so i don't hit anything"...3 seconds later leds on...and they turn on the lights...so blinding them with brights lights from behind can make them get the picture of "TURN ON THE HEADLIGHTS!"
Sorry for the quote in all caps..not yelling at you at all
By experience, if they're driving with their lights off, they are probably not smart enough to make the difference between a police car, motorcycle, or a garbage truck following them and flashing lights at them.
There is no way to turn it off it is controlled by the BCM body control module and without having the proper equipment to connect to the BCM and then having the firmware to reprogram it it’s impossible there are no fuses or relays to remove to shut them off and if you modify the wiring you will lose your highbeams there is a funny thing about how that system works anyways the positive voltage does not change to the highbeam bulb for DRL‘s daytime running lights the BCM body control module actually reduces the negative voltage not the positive voltage they still get 13.5 V what changes is the negative voltage it cuts it back by half figured all this out on my own by reading schematics on a program called SHOP KEY I’m doing a lot of self diagnostic and testing on my own personal vehicle
I’m here to save the day! This was a huge problem for me because I love going to the drive in. Lights on is a super no no. Pull up the ebrake and the lights turn off. Atleast this is true for my 21 Elantra. Hope this helps.
