Driving in the highway ( no hills ) at a steady 70 MPH my 2012 Hyundai Elantra's rpms are 2400, are these the normal rpms for this given speed ?

My 2011 mc accent is at 3600rpm at 70mph. Why are people so concerned?. It's a 4cly engine that redlines at 6500rpm, you are well within the mid range and in the engines powerband. The engine will spin at this speed for for hundreds of thousands of miles, and be happy to do so. Just because it's seems to high for you doesn't mean that it is. My motorcycle was running 5500rpm at 70mph and currently at 125000 and going strong. It's better to stay in the mid rpm than lug it all the time or overrev it all the time.

Our 2010 ET, 5spd MT, with the 17" wheels and 45 profile tires, is turning ~2400 rpm at 70mph (tho we drive @ 65 more often than not). That's more rev's than we'd like, but the engineers knew what they were doing when they put the lil' 4cyl, 5spd MT, rear-end gear, wheels/tires package together. More than a higher gear, the ET needs a sixth speed in the gear-box (as part of an entirely new engine/drive-train package)... I think they call the EGT (sort of). But we'll stick with our ET. We love it and it has twice the mileage as shown on the odometer cuz we tow it everywhere behind our motorhome.

Bringing back an old thread here.

I just bought an '09 ET 5-speed manual and was very surprised to see the high revs at 110 kph.

My wife's '15 elantra sedan with the 5-speed AT does just over 2100 at 110 kph.

Don't they have the same engine, or has the 2.0 changed significantly in the past 6-7 years?
