I have 124,301 miles one thing I love about my 16 year old car it's inexpensive if it is a minor issue my car was overheating I flushed it and replaced it withall makes models coolant , plus my heater is working again. My car has bruises from a couple from hit and runs. I consider my car a family member, I follow basic maintenance I can depend more on my car than blood relatives. What have you all experienced with your nfs.

I have a 2007 Sonata GLS with 240,000 miles. For repairs: I had to replace the driver's seat buckle twice to address AirBag fault code. Replaced the alternator at 190,000 miles. Replaced spark plugs and ignition coils at 160,000 miles. The car drives well and still has the fuel pump it came with along with the original fuel filter. The fuel pump and fuel filter are both inside the fuel tank.

My 2006 GLS V6, which I purchased in May of 2008, is nearing 240,000 miles. Aside from typical maintenance items, here's all the work I've done on it:

  • used low-mileage transmission swap
  • both manifold cats
  • all motor/transmission mounts
  • radiator
  • alternator
  • starter
  • water pump

Burns a quart of oil every 1,000 to 1,200 miles but still runs strong and shows no signs of quitting anytime soon.

2009 GLS 2.4l 116xxx miles, recently I did a valve cover gasket replacement and saw carbon and some sludge in the engine :(,I will add some cleaning chemical (liqui molly) in my next oil change, otherwise is running great.

They issues it has:
the annoying overflow gas tank issue
I need to replace some components in the front left axle.
Right know it has a small collant leak (ordered some tools to fix this)
One engine mount is damaged.

Things I have replaced:
Two freaking exterior door handles and one interior door handles (found them in aliexpress pretty cheap), the exterior door handles got them painted in a shop
Some coolant system part wich cost me a ton.

The problem is I live in northern Mexico and this car was never sold in the country (mine is imported from the US), so parts are scarce and expensive.

2009 2.4l sonata gls just passed 242,000 kilometres or 150,000 miles. Original engine and transmission. I have the cars full service history from new and it’s only had routine maintenance, brakes, and suspension components replaced. Still running very well for the age of the car and has held up very well body wise considering it’s a Canadian car that’s seen 13 winters of salt and winter roads, rust is very much minimal on the undercarriage. From a previous Honda driver who battled rusty quarter panels, slipping transmissions and brutal oil leaks on my previous daily driver I have to say after over a year of ownership I am very impressed by Hyundai’s quality and reliability in this era of sonata from my experience so far.

Wow, that’s double the mileage of my 2009 sonata. Has there been any work done to the engine like water pump, timing chain, etc. I feel you on the rust issues, I live in Canada and my cars held up surprisingly well for the age as far as the unibody chassis, subframe and mounting points go, as well as minimal rust on suspension components. Rockers are however beginning to show early signs of rust, no excessive rot but a lot of brown speckles under the plastic covers lol. I’ve looked at multiple examples from marketplace and they were shockingly rusty compared to mine. It’s sad to see so many cars life’s cut short due to rust in colder climates with road salt. Pictures are posted below of my car’s undercarriage.

No work on water pump, did have alternator go out due to leaking oil from valve cover gasket. I drive it hard, 30 thousand a year. I bought it with 150 thousand in 2017. Oil changed every 5000 miles. The suspension is the weakest part of car in my honest opinion. Check engine light came on few days ago for the first time. Code po451. Engine runs great, fast too, I can kick her down to 100 easy, too easy! I was hoping we could make it too 500 thousand miles, but that rust is cancerous crap!!!

Yeah, I honestly don’t get why everyone looks down on Hyundai’s as unreliable, my car runs amazing shifts well and I got it for an amazing deal about a year and a half ago with like 130k miles, i’ve had no problems with the car, it passed inspection needing nothing and I was told the car was worth double if not triple what I paid for it by the shop who inspected it (never would you get a deal like that on an Honda or Toyota). My previous daily driver was a 2004 civic which is what everyone told me to get, cheap civic that’ll run forever and they’re halfway quick. Bought it with 240k kms or roughly 150,000 miles and it was an absolute nightmare, ignition went out 2 days after buying it, transmission started slipping after a year, leaked so much oil I would go to Walmart and buy those big buckets to top it off lol. Rust was also unreal, went to open the door one day about 6 months before the transmission went out all together and I ripped the full handle out as the door was rotted so bad there wasn’t enough structure to hold the handle in, quarter panels were shot as all Hondas are and rockers were getting there. I’m the type to buy a car for cheap and use it until there’s not a bit of life left, but when the transmission finally let go I was honestly so excited to move onto something halfway decent. I saw my 2009 sonata up on marketplace and it looked phenomenal for the year with still relatively low miles. When I got pictures of the undercarriage and saw how clean it looked for the age and where it spent it’s life it sealed the deal I drove 4 hours to pick it up. By the time I had my civic for 2 years I was honestly ready to just send it to scrap but this sonata has been amazing to own.

My 2010 2.4L will roll over 178,000 tomorrow. Bought it from my Hyundai dealer in 2016 with 34,000 miles on it. I have a 120 mile / day commute, so almost all highway miles. Still average 32.5 - 35.3 mpg.

My only work: 1 rear brake caliper; new discs once; new brake pads a couple times; 3 new door handles; 1 fuel pump; 2 sets of tires.

My issues: OEM radio cuts in and out (temperature and or jarring seems to affect it); error code P0462 (fuel gauge sender low voltage) - hate tracing electrics!.

If I could find another low mileage 2010 in good shape I'd buy again in an instant. 5th Hyundai from the same saleman, I'm happy with the brand!

About 245,000, 4 cylinder, no issues. Owned it for almost 10 years now, once a year at dealership for inspection, all maintenance done on schedule, only repairs where ignition switch (~$30, fixed myself), 1 brake caliper, 1 radiator and 2 oxygen sensors.

If I ever consider a car a family member, someone please have me admitted.
