How do you turn the radio OFF?

Help! I've just bought a 2017 Tuscon Premium SE and I can't find a way of having the NAV on without the Radio or Media playing. There is a mute switch on the steering wheel but that only works until you switch off. Next time you start the car, the radio is on again. Surely there must be a way of turning the radio off without switching the whole system off, butI can't find anything in the manual.

I'll try mine later and report back.

It wouldn't surprise me if there is a default volume it goes to upon startup. The memory within the system seems to be a bit hit and miss. It appears to reload all contacts and phone information every time you start, rather than just look for changes, and the bloody sat-nav woman always pipes up even though you set her to mute every time.

Use the Mute button on the steering wheel......See if that helps......Before you ask, it's on the left control panel..<img src="http://www.hyundai-forums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" class="inlineimg" /><img src="http://www.hyundai-forums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Smile" class="inlineimg" />
Yes, the mute button works, but only until you switch the ignition off. Next time you switch on the ignition the radio blares out.

I guess it must depend on the type of system.
Mine is a Limited trim with the 8 inch display.
When I push the volume (power) knob once then it changes to AV OFF. If I push and hold the volume knob then everything turns off and only the time is shown.

I only have the base radio. The volume per "input" is separate. I.E. Radio volume at 12, Media (my phone) volume at 30. Power off, back on, same input volumes remain. If I turn the radio volume to Zero, that does not alter any other input's volume (e.g. Media).

Volume controls on my phone also affect the total output on my head unit. So half-volume on my phone (iPhone SE) and head unit volume at 30 basically results in head unit output of 15.

Maybe this is what's going on?

Is GPS on the upgraded head unit a separate "input"?

Oh, and even if my head unit is OFF, my phone still pairs with it and I can still receive/make calls through it. Totally surprised me when I had the unit off so I could talk to people in the car and it started ringing...

Push in the Volume button as described by many here. The AV system will go off.

Then push the "NAV" button and you will get the Map Display while the AV system remains off.

At least that's the way it works on my 2015 Sonata.

It may work on your Sonata but it doesn't work on my Tucson. If I press the Volume button the AV system goes off and stays off until I press the volume button again.

Can you show a picture of what your head unit looks like? That may help others who may have the same one to answer.

As you mentioned, there are different versions. On mine it's just a simple 1 button push. Not sure why others would be more complicated.

Okay, here's a photo of my unit: As mentioned in my initial post it is a 2017 Premium SE model It is European spec.

I very rarely listen to "radio", preferring my own music or nothing at all. I therefore hate the fact that if I switch off the ignition without first stopping whatever "media" I am listening to, the unit reverts to "radio" when the ignition is switched on again. If there was a volume preset for "radio", as some of you have described, it would be fine, but there isn't on this model.

Hi
My understanding of your initial post is that you want the NAV on but the Radio and Media off.

You should be able to do this by pressing the volume button to turn off the sound from the radio and media.
Then press the MAP / NAVI button and this should activated the screen with the map without any sound from radio & Media.

That should resolve your issue hopefully.
