Homelink Mirror install questions

I purchased an OEM homelink mirror, and the other threads show wiring quite a bit different from what is in my overhead console. Will I have to wire this all the way down the pillar to the fuse box or is there anything in the attached photo I can use to attach this mirror? There is also a harness for the sunroof besides the pictured items.

When I installed mine, I went down the driver side A-pillar to the fuse panel and patched into there.

The one I got came with a detailed set of instructions and everything but the hand tools required for the job. Part number was: 3X062-ADU00

This has detailed instructions, but it also shows me having a connector on my harness that I don't have. I believe this is for an Elantra GT. If I can just connect it to power from the harness(s) up top, and have homelink, auto-dimming and compass, I'd be good to go. I think all I need is a hot, ground, and a ignition switched hot. I'm looking through the wiring on the service website, and I think I know where to go without running the wiring down the pillar and to the Fuse Panel backside, but I want to check it tomorrow before I cut the harness short, and can't return it. I have to find my 12v test light.

Got it installed (minus blue link). I have autodimming, compass, and homelink!

On the 2013 overhead console, with sunroof, the correct wiring is

+ Red on map light connector to positive on mirror
- Black on map light connector to negative on mirror
+ (ignition) Orange on sunroof connector to ignition switched on mirror
Nice job. Your approach was a lot easier (and less intrusive) than some others I've read about. Thanks for blazing a path others can follow!

From what I saw in remote starter install instructions, there are things to watch for when running wire down the A pillar.
1-Removing the A pillar trim involves cutting a clip and replacing it.
2-Wires must run behind the airbag assembly, otherwise the wires can get in the way of the inflating airbag (and cut a ear, maybe? ;) )

I never had to cut the tether clip in my pillar cover. Happened to have a set of extended angled needle nose pliers that reached in and twisted it out.

HI: I have a 2014 elantra limited with tech package and want to add the homelink/blue link/auto dim mirror. The dealer says no such mirror is available as an add-on. I have found a part number : 3Q062 ADU00 that seems to be listed for years 2012-2013 for the elantra and 2012-2014 for the sonata. Is it possible that this would fit the 2014 elantra, but hyundai just has not listed correctly? Any idea on a part number? Why would thi not be available, it is listed as an option on the car from the factory? thx

I'm looking closer at your photo. If I'm seeing it correctly, you have 2 black wires, and a black with a white stripe. It would look like the attached photo I found on another site.

The wire with the ring on the end is the ground. That could be connected to the black wire in the map light harness.

The other solid black wire would go to the red wire in the map light harness.

The black with the white stripe would go to the orange wire in the sunroof harness.

You can just cut the ground ring off and attach to the ground wire i mentioned on the light harness with the remaining wire tap that came with the kit. That location you're screwed to might not have a good ground since it looks painted.

Edit: Since it has the ring, you may not have gotten another wire tap. You need a good bare metal connection to the body surface. Either sand off some of that paint, or you'll need another wire tap to connect to the ground wire.

You could also remove the ring, and strip the end of the wire, and test this by touching the end of the wire to the inner terminal of the ground wire. That would at least let you know it works. Easiest would then be to buy the tap at an Auto Parts store and squeeze it onto that last wire.

Finally, the ignition does need to be on for the auto dim and compass functions, as well as the power light to work. Only the homelink works with the car off.

Thank you for the info! I do have a remaining t-tap. I will use that to connect into the map light black wire. With the ring ground harness, I will purchase an additional male push-on connector to convert it and then plug it into the t-tap on black wire.

That should solve the problem. I did test the mirror with the vehicle entirely on.

Will report back when I go to the hardware store.
