I just spoke with Powerchip on the phone (the guy's name was Jeremy) to check and see if it was ready to go, and he said it was.

He said I could place an order on the website, or they could take it over the phone.

I just wish I had $390 burning a hole in my pocket right now!

 

Just ordered mine, waitign for packing slip then I'll be sending it out. Man I'm lookign forward to it. I might actually go buy one of those 12V guages that tells you the HP and Accel. of your car. I know they are not great but at least it'll give me an ideal of how much gain I get. Closes Dyno is like 500KM away and costs alot.

BTW, it looks like KFX is working on their own ECU flash. The people they are working with are seeing a +29 hp gain on the 1.6, but who knows what kind of fuel that is. Could be something like 113 octane race fuel. If they can do that on 91 octane pump gas, that would be great!

As i have mentioned, I have been working with a HYUNDAI race team that has software to work on all of our ecus.

They have been doing some work on the Alpha Engine in the Cerato which is the same 1.6 engine that is used in the 3rd gen Rio.

Stock running on this engine have been at 121 hp at the crank. With just ecu tuning, they have brought this engine to 150 at the crank and are selling this car mod at dealerships in their country. This really begins to take advantage of the CVVT in the new engine.

We are working out details right now that will allow the software and a piece of hardware tie a laptop into our cars through the obdII port. (They are doing this allready!!! over there on dedicated equipment)

This will allow us to flash the computer on our cars, It will also allow us to accumulate data to fine tune our cars through new upgradable flash files.

They are currently working out the security details that will ensure that the software will only work on one car.... Sorry no sharing of data.

They may make the software available to make changes but once the software has been activiated, it will be tied to the original ecu that it was hooked up to.

I know there are still a few unknowns in this at this point, but we are getting closer...

We are shooting for a final price of under $300

 

121 HP at crank, what hav ethey done to the engine it only put out 110HP, Not to mention this is a racing team. They are tunign it for a racign application, totally differant if you just have a stock setup. Hopefull I just read it wrong, nice to see they are testing it and playing with the settings. Hopefully they are doing the same to a stock motor. But with a stock motor I'd say they get about 15HP increase. Which for $300 is still great with a N/A motor.

Had to take it out, there was a small issue with teh increased rev limit, but they took it back and are working on it.

It kept changing back to default now and agian, than increasing. It was a **** when you wanted to race someone and instead of revving up to 7500 you'ld rev out at the default 6250. It was like the **** chip decided when and when not to increase the rev limit. But I don't think I'll be keeping it, or getting it returned, it was a test chip anyways. I'm going turbo this winter/spring so I would have removed it anyways.

 

But for us lowly NA guys, did you notice a power increase? An increase worth $400 and running Premium gas?

 

Let's just say I'd put my money where my mouth is anytime agianst another NA Accent. Very noticable, about a 10-15 hp gain, but I didn't get a chance to truely dyno it. I just tested it with a 12v gauge. The first week without the chip was painfull very painfull.

 

Awesome, thanks for the update. If the KFX unit does not work out (too hard/expensive to tune, less dyno proven power gain, etc), then the PowerChip flash looks like a good way to go.

 

I would also like a Powerchip for my 08 Accent SE. I spoke to them today and based on my current configuration they estimate and 20-28 HP gain. I would like to know what it cost you shipped to your door?

Just got off the phone with them... Here's the breakdown:

You order it from their website for $490.
They call you and you tell them your exact configuration (intake, headers, catback, pulleys, etc), and they tune your ECU based on what you already have on your car.. Very cool.

ALSO, if you ever add a modification to your car in the future (headers eventually for me probably), they just charge a $100 reflash fee to optimize your ECU for your new modification.

They said that the 09s have a different ECU than the 08s, and it makes it a little more complicated to modify them, but that won't be an issue for me since mine's an 08.
Also, they said, despite the outdated .pdf about the Hyundai Accent on their website, they've done extensive testing of 07s 08s and 09s lately, including road tests, and they've gotten some pretty impressive gains of HP and torque.

In summary, I'm totally getting mine reflashed within a month.

that sounds nice and all, but which company are u talking about powerchip or kfx?? and do you have to send ur ECU to them? and how long is it going to take??

So I guess it's possible I may be looking at 1 week downtime. BUT, after calculating a shipping estimate on Fedex, Overnighting it to Cali would cost around $63 for shipping supposedly, so I may just be cheap and ship it Ground... I'll just have to make sure I have a vehicle available (like my brother's car) for 2 weeks. Prolly worth the money saved in shipping. Or maybe I'll just go for the full $63 to ship it overnight... Less downtime = more money made at work and more fun driving sooner.

Just an FYI for any of you that plan on driving it on the road (not just the track), and plan on getting your car inspected every year or so.

What's up guys new to the site. I seen everyone talking about powerchip so I wanted to let everyone know about my experience so far. I got a 09 Accent and sent the ECU to powerchip to get it reflashed. They told me that they did not expect the ECU change on the 09. They sent it back to me stock with out any charge after about two weeks of trying to learn the new system. They stated that they would save my data in their system and after they figure it out they would call me back so I can get it done. With my mods they stated at least 15hp but this was before we realized the ECU cant be reflashed yet on the 09. I hope this info. still stays true or even gets better. I like both companies that everyone was talking about Powerchip and KFX, we will see what will happen in the future. I am planning to dyno my car this week with a short ram air intake and full exhaust including megan headers and then I will dyno it again after the powerchip. I am curious about the results. I believe that powerchip will come out with a nice chip for the 09 accents but I heard around from some sources that NA engines, you will be lucky if you get 10hp on 1.6L engines.

 

all this talk about upgrading our ECU chips is crazy interesting... but here's a question from a 'noob'... :whistling:
with the increase in HP how will the fuel economy be impacted??? Is upgrading the ECU chip similar to
the coolant bypass mod where you gain HP at the cost of fuel econ? Or is this like the intake were theres
an increase in HP but no decrease in fuel?

well they will remap the ecu, so more likely you will have to do an upgrade on gasoline and also its going to eat more...because thats how you get more ponies regulating the fuel, adding more from what the stock is. on basic explanations, because there is more than just that.
