Dear Friends,

This week has been a very exceptional one. So many things have happened; I feel that finally the pieces are falling in to place. The last few months were very challenging in every aspect, but the hard work starts to pay off.

During the development of the product, I tried to stick to my deepest value of being as completely transparent and honest as possible. I took on a personal challenge; to bring to market a product of an exceptional value of performance versus price. Like you, I’m tired of paying exaggerated prices to buy what I really need and want. I’m a newborn in the business; however I think I can bring some fresh air where you and I can be in a win-win situation.

In my mind, and from the beginning, I decided to approach the market in a different way. From the beginning I decided that my main goal would be to beat the portable navigation systems at their own game and integrate a class leading comprehensive GPS solution into an integrated media device. I encourage the customers to consider and compare both options (my integrated solution and the off the shelf standalone GPS devices) and buy accordingly to their needs.

The most difficult task was to build the business according to the above ideal by respecting the profit margins of my suppliers. Compass-NAV, as a company, was founded to minimize the overhead and therefore minimize the impact on final price. I’m in a position today where I can certainly say: “Mission completed”. I was able to create a horizontal business structure to eliminate the waste of money. The whole structure sits on the network of people found on this forum. From the manuals creator, the website designer or the “guinea pig”, everything is working cohesively using today’s technology. The most important thing to mention is all of the participants of this thread that have been following me since the beginning, THANK YOU!! If this thread is growing more than ever, it’s all because of you…. Nothing less.

Today, I can certainly declare that we have in our hands a true master piece of mobile entertainment. The CN-M5 raised the bar in this category in Korea and I’m pleased to integrate their technology to our flavor. We won’t stop it here; we have the room to grow bringing even more exciting features.

Now I’m pleased to present the final offering of the CN-M5 integrated navi-tainment system for your Sonata, look for the “EXCLUSIVES” to Compass NAV’s product. No other vendor offers these features!!

Technology:
The reason why it integrates so well with existing factory features is because the foundation IS from the factory. Let me explain. Most of the offerings today replace the entire radio and dash components to make it “look” factory. The reality is those manufacturers are using a generic box and they adapt it the best they can to your car. The problem is they can’t integrate perfectly because it would cost them too much money to adapt it 100%, thus loosing XM, steering wheel controls etc…. Our approach is different; we use your current factory radio. Yes! The metal box with the tuners and amplifiers of your existing car, we just remove the face of it thus removing only the keypad and the LCD screen only. That leaves the factory flat ribbon cable and the Bluetooth antenna out of the metal box. That ribbon cable is interfaced with a controller module that converts the messages sent and received by the old face and sent now to our Tablet PC. In reality you keep the master component that retains your factory features but they are now going thru a touchscreen interface.

Features:
Retain all your factory features such as:

I'm interested too.

Though before I pre-order I need to see picture and videos of the install on a 2011 SE or SE 2.0T

Also since I have absolutely what id be doing for installation I need suggestions for installers in the Bergen NJ area.

Very wary about this one...

If it's not a total scam, I'm guessing about the same quality as any asian knock-off screen that you can buy. I work in the electronics industry and there are very few companies that make GOOD factory replacement components, heck even the multimillion dollar companies have a hard time with this sort of thing. Coupled with a few other things, I'm just really wary of this. Sorry Charles if you're legit, but definitely not interested. I'd love to see a video of the unit though

Iceberg802,

If this was a total scam, I wouldn't even mention where I live and not even spend my time to stretch a thread at 16 pages.

I understand your point and I was concerned about the longevity and quality aspect too. That's why I took a company out of China, to be more specific, they are in Korea and they know the Hyundai/Kia product very well! In fact, they are Hyundai/Kia OEM suppliers for certain countries.

I just installed a Volvo navigation retrofit and that thing was built like a tank. Definitly high quality.

If you read carefully whole thread, I'm sure you didn't, it's not a knock off.

But at the end of the day, if your definitely not interested... why you waste your time in the thread?

Car DVD player for Hyundai Sonata 2011 I40 I45 I50 YF with GPS radio bluetooth 6711

jumping in kind of late, but does sound fishy. Usually companies or individuals who want to build interest or enlist the help of a healthy forum community are a little more forth coming. The link above I found earlier this year googling around for a solution similar to what Charles is mentioning he possibly has. I have had other cars that I have worked on as project cars from Subaru to Ford. I have on both cars been a tester for new to market products through being involved in forums. I will say each of the 3 times more information was available and the parties involved were very eager to no dance around specifics. Not saying one thing or another since I am coming into this late and after about 6 pages just skipped to the end. But Just a word of cation to the group that is all. Best of luck.

Chris,

What more information you're looking at? I've posted pictures, specifications, answered everybodies questions, posted progress... and what dance around specifics you're talking about?

if you are comparing a Chinease (your link) to what I'm selling, I'm sorry for you because I provided all technical details for the guys making their decisions. Right of the bat major difference between a 400Mhz versus 900 and 64Mb versus 128.

All in all, if the majority of the feedback was negative, I wouldn't have jumped into the adventure of starting my company to import that stuff.

Thanks to all the ones that looking forward to see the final result.

Ok I want to give everyone an update on something I found out this weekend. I didnt feel comfortable with the product charles says he will be releasing so I installed an aftermarket radio in my 2012 2.0t. After removing my factory radio I can tell you now if you attempt to install an 8 inch screen in our vehicle and the dash kit is not made perfect you will have nothing but problems. There was very little room for the brackets for the 7 inch screen. I purchased all my install kit parts from crutchfield and Ill tell you now if I didnt have a dremel to make modifications to the radio bezel that was sent to me and that was just for a 7 inch screen I would have been in trouble. I also had to make modifications to the insde of the dash for the radio bezel to work. The dash kit I received came from a very large company that owns the market on these items. I dont want to say that the product charles may put out will be inferior, but take it from me I just did the install this week its not as easy as everyone makes it out to be.

Another thing I noticed on my factory radio for 2012 the face of my radio is not just going to pop off. I would have had to break the warranty seals around all 4 corners then take the top and both sides off to get the face plate to come off. That leads me to warranty issues for the future with hyundai. Your radio craps out on you while your trying to install this screen and you have broken the waranty seals they are going to know someone has been messing with the radio. That means they are not goint to warranty it.

I took it upon myself to call hyundai to find out how many different part numbers they showed for just the 2012 non nav radio. According to hyundai they showed 3 different radio part numbers. I asked them why they had 3 and the answer I was given is that hyundai was selling so many of the sonatas they had to source other vendors for the parts. Which would explain why on 2011 radios you can just pop the screen off, but on mine you have to dissassemble basically the entire radio to get the face off.

I just wanted everyone to be aware of the problems they may encounter while trying to do this install. Here is the link to my inistall on my after market radio that I posted for everyone to see the trouble I went through.

Fast,

I remember you!

So finally you made the move? My kit has nothing to do with yours so please compare apples with apples. However for the radio warranty, I would somewhat to agree, and true for anything you're going to modify in your car.

Next time you want to get attention for your own thread, just bump yourself, don't try to deviate the traffic ;)

Progression....

Hi all,

Some members had complained about my lack of informations and ... dancing with the specifics...

So here we go for a round of the progression with pictures.

1- I'm waiting from Korea 2 screen devices (without facia) to be sent for FCC and IC certifications. These approvals are required for to make that the imported goods will not have wireless interference your car device. BTW, most if not all Chinese stuff like Chris posted, will not have those certifications because they don't give a heck if they comply or not thus selling at lower price.
Once, they will be approved, they will leave Canada to Hungary for navigation software porting.

2- I purchased 2 beta units (1 Elantra, 1 Sonata) for test. I will tape the video's with them. I should have them early January. The Elantra will probably be available earlier than the Sonata since it requires less customization for the US market.

3- Since we move the radio towards the top of the console, we provide new bracket and metal trim piece with new slot load CD. See TRIM6 picture.

4- Since we will keep OEM car security, the facia has been modified the receive the Hyundai indicator for the GL and GLS. We will also provide the indicator into the kit (see picture indicator) NO ONE DOES THIS ON THE MARKET! (See picture Sonata mod 1). For limited and Turbo, you just need to relocate the indicator into our facia.

5- The Home screen will be like the factory blue instead of the RED/Orange color. see attached.

If any other questions, feel free to ask. I will post more info as it come.

Thanks,

Charles

Dear Gentlemen,

Thanks for viewing my post. I’m currently working with a serious supplier to bring something very exciting for the YF Sonata in North America. What it is?
Well it’s a factory radio retrofit with full touch screen/navigation system.

Please let me give you more about it:

1- Keep your factory radio.
2- Keep existing Bluetooth functionality.
3- Keep existing Steering Wheel control.
4- Keep the XM radio.
5- Keep your CD and USB functionality.
6- Keep factory trip computer.

++ Plus ++

1- Full 7 inch touch screen.
2- Match blue screen factory color.
3- Adds GPS Navigation.
4- Play DVD from external source.
5- Adds backup camera.
6- Nice large volume on/off controller knob.
7- Direct access buttons.
8- Factory like high quality plastics and paint.
9- Full multimedia capability.

See attached picture to have a look.

To kick off this project, I would need a kind person that would sell me his factory radio for retrofit and testing.
For the ones interested, please PM me with the price you’re asking.

Please don't hesitate to ask the questions you may have!

Best regards and thanks for your collaboration.

Charles

PS this post will be also added into the WANTED section. Other model will be available for Elantra and Tucson.
Hello Charles,
I am also interested in purchasing this unit. I will keep checking in on your progress. How much longer do you suppose it will be until it will be ready for sale?:D

Trim Finish

Hi jdugan4859 and all of you guys!

In order to respect the look of your car interior finish, I finaly found a vinyl wrap that would be very close to the finish of the interior finish of GL and GLS.

the finish number is 1080-R212. I requested a sample from 3M and I will post better picture

Please have a look at the attached.

I don't think the mate will be perfect but very close and still better than the glossy finish of all the aftermarket stuff I found so far.

Thanks for watching.

NB. Thanks for all your patience guys, i know this has been dragging but we are close to completition. Stay tuned.... please

New Platform

Hi Gents,

I'm posting today the progress we are making. I feel you deserve this attention since all of you have been extrememly patient so far. My deepest thanks for your fidelity.

We've made some primilary testing with the actual platform and we found that the graphics were a bit laggy especially on long travel distances. To eliminate this lag, we had to disable 3D features and animations.

Since this behavior was not in line with my promisses, we decided to upscale the whole platform. The prototypes are completed and I should receive the samples in a week or two. The whole platform will now feature a 2Ghz ARM Cortex assisted with 512Megs of RAM. I far I know, this has never been seen for this type of device. We want to make sure that this new platform will have enough muscles to support future features.

Along with this new platform, we will bring better graphics for the TRIP UI, we will also test the Picture in Picture of the TRIP UI over the Navigation screen (new feature).

Also we will implement the platform to be plug and play with the optional Traffic Message Channel tuner (TMC) and also Speed Camera Warning for all USA and Canada (this will be standard).

The target price will remain around 750.00$

I hope you are please with this news and looking forward to see you as customers.

Cheers!

Charles

Pixs

Gentlemen,

I'm back with new pictures and please let me explain them.

1- Picture #1, installed with navigation screen. Also, (not shown ) a background picture called USER HOME screen. The background picture can be any pictures of your choice that you can upload to the device.

2- Picture #2, same but far view.

3- Picture #3, This is what we call, TRIP mode. This is basically the radio portion of the device that replicates everything you use to have with your factory radio.... but all touch screen. This view can be minimized and you will see either HOME screen or Navigation screen. You can always come back to this full screen just by resuming the view.

4- Picture #4, another TRIP mode view with a source selected.

Of course there'sd much more views like Music, Videos... but I'll stop here. If you don't like what you see here, you won't like the rest anyway.

Sorry, If you were looking at super animation with graphic bands or RAVE like studio in your car, It will not happen. We're trying to keep the factory look of the car.

Feel free to ask questions you may have.

Thanks,

Charles

I don't see an onscreen button for XM radio on the interface pictures. Will this be compatable with units that have XM? I have what Hyundai calls the PA710YF unit.
