Dear Friends,

This week has been a very exceptional one. So many things have happened; I feel that finally the pieces are falling in to place. The last few months were very challenging in every aspect, but the hard work starts to pay off.

During the development of the product, I tried to stick to my deepest value of being as completely transparent and honest as possible. I took on a personal challenge; to bring to market a product of an exceptional value of performance versus price. Like you, I’m tired of paying exaggerated prices to buy what I really need and want. I’m a newborn in the business; however I think I can bring some fresh air where you and I can be in a win-win situation.

In my mind, and from the beginning, I decided to approach the market in a different way. From the beginning I decided that my main goal would be to beat the portable navigation systems at their own game and integrate a class leading comprehensive GPS solution into an integrated media device. I encourage the customers to consider and compare both options (my integrated solution and the off the shelf standalone GPS devices) and buy accordingly to their needs.

The most difficult task was to build the business according to the above ideal by respecting the profit margins of my suppliers. Compass-NAV, as a company, was founded to minimize the overhead and therefore minimize the impact on final price. I’m in a position today where I can certainly say: “Mission completed”. I was able to create a horizontal business structure to eliminate the waste of money. The whole structure sits on the network of people found on this forum. From the manuals creator, the website designer or the “guinea pig”, everything is working cohesively using today’s technology. The most important thing to mention is all of the participants of this thread that have been following me since the beginning, THANK YOU!! If this thread is growing more than ever, it’s all because of you…. Nothing less.

Today, I can certainly declare that we have in our hands a true master piece of mobile entertainment. The CN-M5 raised the bar in this category in Korea and I’m pleased to integrate their technology to our flavor. We won’t stop it here; we have the room to grow bringing even more exciting features.

Now I’m pleased to present the final offering of the CN-M5 integrated navi-tainment system for your Sonata, look for the “EXCLUSIVES” to Compass NAV’s product. No other vendor offers these features!!

Technology:
The reason why it integrates so well with existing factory features is because the foundation IS from the factory. Let me explain. Most of the offerings today replace the entire radio and dash components to make it “look” factory. The reality is those manufacturers are using a generic box and they adapt it the best they can to your car. The problem is they can’t integrate perfectly because it would cost them too much money to adapt it 100%, thus loosing XM, steering wheel controls etc…. Our approach is different; we use your current factory radio. Yes! The metal box with the tuners and amplifiers of your existing car, we just remove the face of it thus removing only the keypad and the LCD screen only. That leaves the factory flat ribbon cable and the Bluetooth antenna out of the metal box. That ribbon cable is interfaced with a controller module that converts the messages sent and received by the old face and sent now to our Tablet PC. In reality you keep the master component that retains your factory features but they are now going thru a touchscreen interface.

Retain all your factory features such as:

very interested in this.. ill either purchase this or the pioneer that smoke was speaking of.. ill give charles the benefit of the doubt and wait for completion.. ive got a '11 limited.
Hi cstrom5,

Thanks! Please, do your homework carefully before you buy. You have to identify clearly what are your priorities. Both options have their "plus" and minuses", you choose where it hurts the less. Personally I hate to bash on something just to add my grain of salt, unfortunately you have a lot of that on forums.

For example, if sound is you top priority, then probably you should look at an aftermarket radio plus new speakers. The factory speakers can’t render the fidelity of the radio. However, you need to buy a new trim, steering wheel interface, factory harness adapters, XM module… (If needed)
If you can live with the factory sound, (sometimes just replacing the speakers helps a lot) and you want to keep all factory goodies then what I propose makes sense.

Please remember, all navigation softwares are not the same and it depends mostly on the price you are ready to pay. As far I’m concern, I decided to go with the best in the field and add the best features like 3D junction view, lane assist, branded POI icons, 3D lane exits…. Name it. Usually, aftermarket radios with navigation, does not bring the best because it’s a matter of cost. It’s a very competitive market and everybody wants their share.
Weight the pro and cons for both and I sure you will not regret your choice.

I am really liking this and will be buying when this is released. Great choice in the nav software. Looks like igo primo, which is excellent and simple as far as updating maps and pois. Question: will this retrofit utilize the headunit hardware to run the nav/backup cam/etc, or does the screen module have some sport of firmware in it? I have used igo for years and while it is a great program, it requires a good hardware setup to be usable. Just food for thought.

I would hope this is either win mo 6x. or Android based. I can already see some great missing potential for the ui

Please keep us updated!

Hi Adogg9626,

We will be using IGO Primo 2.0 for our navigation program, it as the latest goodies and in my book the best nav program today.

No, it will not use the head unit to run the nav, backup cam etc... because the head unit has not the hardware to do it. What we do is very close to have a tablet PC in your dash. This tablet talks to the head unit via an interface board to get the text that was originaly displayed to the OEM radio facia. Everything else is operated from the tablet (Nav, backup cam, video...) As far the hardware, that was my main concern too. I spent 2-3 months trying to find a decent manufacturer. So far I'm very happy with them. The CPU is a SIRF PRIMA 900Mhz 128Meg of ram and 256Meg of ROM. This is far beyond of what IGO Primo is asking as recommended. So the user experience should be interresting. The OS is Windows CE 6.

Of course there is always room for improvments... I'm open for suggestions within the limit of "common sense".

Cheers!

The 3M solution might work, but why not install it before shipping?
Or, paint the bezel before it ships . . . while you're at it, why not make the silver streaks on the base of the waterfall (near seatbelt tensioners) either the same color as the painted/applied bezel ?

Guys,

I stated before, It was also bugging me and I endorse 100% your opinions.

I know ALL my competitors have the glossy finish even for the GL & GLS and I will make bushed metal.

It's not even an option to me however my manufacturer supplier will not do it so I have to find a smart way to do it right without raising the price redicuslously.

If by any chance you have a brilliant idea to do it, I'm open but so far the best I found was the 3M vinyl tape.

Thanks for your inputs guys, it's valuable to me.

Hi MAZINGERPR,

Thanks for holding and you do it for good reasons:

1- We have more CPU power than their version and better CPU, SIRF Prima.
2- Even if they have a US web site, they have no presence here and they don't realize the difference in taste and culture. I do, I'm Canadian proudly living into America.
3- They rip-off the security of the car, ie, they got rid of the air bag and passenger seat belt warning light. My version will have this indicator like the limited version. As far I'm concern, their product shouldn't be autorized for reselling in USA.
4- I'm far from sure if they have their FCC & IC wireless interference compliancy. We will.
5- We have a far better and more comprehensive navigation software. IGO Primo 2.0 is paraised accross the world. Even if I'm running out of business one day, you'll still be able to update your maps because you are dealing directly with the software provider. Trust me, i've never seen a software with that much capability, it almost drive for you.

I was told they were asking around 1500.00$ for it? Can you confim that to me? That would help you and others too.

Thanks,

Charles

because of the cetification & security options I mention above this has delayed the process a bit but I'm shooting for late January, early Feb.

I don"t want to rush out an unfinished product.

the good thing is I will have a Hyundai salesman near where I'm living that wants to the beta tester, most of the bugs will be ironed out before release.

thanks,

Charles

I mentioned before that I would try to keep the price below the 700$ bar.

However the Sonata is a little bit more expensive to implement than the other models.

Unlike my competitors, I don't want to dump a products that violate current security rules we have in North America. Their product is made for the whole world and they don't give a heck about you and your passenger security as long they cash in the money.

That is why I decided to keep the factory warning and securities by like the air bag and passenger seat belt warnings you have on top of your radio. Unfortunatly due to the size of the 8 inch touch screen, those things are removed.

What I'm doing is wiring those 2 things to the right side, exactly like the limited model. Might look stupid but here what that involves:

- Modify the mold to fit in the seat belt/air bag indicator where I'm charged for that. (Specific for North America)
- Buying and making a cable that will tap onto the factory harness and rewire to the right side of the console, like the limited.
- Buy the factory indicator.

Due to that, I might have to raise to around 750$. Take that with a grain of salt however, I have to negotiate strong. The more inquiries I will get the more I'm in position to negotate.

Thanks,

Charles

Hi Jay,

No problem.

If everyting goes as planned, early Feb makes sence.

I'm aloso working to offer, as an option the TMC/RDS tuner with TMC Navteq subcription.

At this point, I can go for an official annoucment:

FOR THE FIRST 100 PRE-ORDERS, THE EARLY BIRDS WILL GET FOR FREE, THE TMC TUNER AND LIFE TIME NAVTEQ TRAFFIC MESSAGE SUBSCRIPTION.

I'm sure many citizens of big cities will appreciate that.

Before launching the product, you will be able to appeciate the product from Youtube, a full demo will be available. Guys make sure you view it before buying, OK?

I'll get back soon with a pre-order date.

I'm taking this very seriously and I would be the first to be desapointed if you don't like it.

Stay tuned!

Charles,

Thanks for the update. I apologize for my laziness in not just reading through the post. Forgive me for another possible "asked and answered" question:
What is a TMC/RDS tuner?

Also, do you have a set number for your first production run? I would hate for you to accomplish all this hard work but get negative press for under projecting demand and run into a backorder issue.

I'm not fluent on the forum culture here, but I'm going to stick my neck out-you may get some additional interest generated on Turbo Sonata Forums - | Latest 2.0T Info, Mods, News & Chat

Cheers,

Sweet

I'm also going to comb through the previous pages to see if you will be offering a backup camera option, as well.

Hi Sweetpflueg,

Please don't feel sorry this way, no questions are stupid and are legetimate. See, ee're at 14 pages of thread now, still surprised that we're not sticky!, and it's normal to loose the lead especially when a new visitor. DONT feel sorry at all.

An RDS/TMC tuner is a "Traffic Message Channel" tuner that receives traffic massages broadcasted over the air and decoded by the tuner. Those message are sent to the navigation software to and then you are warned about traffic. The nav software will offer you different alternative to buypass the traffic ahead.

Yes the camera is available as an option.

If any other questions, feel free to ask.
