Dear Friends,

This week has been a very exceptional one. So many things have happened; I feel that finally the pieces are falling in to place. The last few months were very challenging in every aspect, but the hard work starts to pay off.

During the development of the product, I tried to stick to my deepest value of being as completely transparent and honest as possible. I took on a personal challenge; to bring to market a product of an exceptional value of performance versus price. Like you, I’m tired of paying exaggerated prices to buy what I really need and want. I’m a newborn in the business; however I think I can bring some fresh air where you and I can be in a win-win situation.

In my mind, and from the beginning, I decided to approach the market in a different way. From the beginning I decided that my main goal would be to beat the portable navigation systems at their own game and integrate a class leading comprehensive GPS solution into an integrated media device. I encourage the customers to consider and compare both options (my integrated solution and the off the shelf standalone GPS devices) and buy accordingly to their needs.

The most difficult task was to build the business according to the above ideal by respecting the profit margins of my suppliers. Compass-NAV, as a company, was founded to minimize the overhead and therefore minimize the impact on final price. I’m in a position today where I can certainly say: “Mission completed”. I was able to create a horizontal business structure to eliminate the waste of money. The whole structure sits on the network of people found on this forum. From the manuals creator, the website designer or the “guinea pig”, everything is working cohesively using today’s technology. The most important thing to mention is all of the participants of this thread that have been following me since the beginning, THANK YOU!! If this thread is growing more than ever, it’s all because of you…. Nothing less.

Today, I can certainly declare that we have in our hands a true master piece of mobile entertainment. The CN-M5 raised the bar in this category in Korea and I’m pleased to integrate their technology to our flavor. We won’t stop it here; we have the room to grow bringing even more exciting features.

Now I’m pleased to present the final offering of the CN-M5 integrated navi-tainment system for your Sonata, look for the “EXCLUSIVES” to Compass NAV’s product. No other vendor offers these features!!

Technology:
The reason why it integrates so well with existing factory features is because the foundation IS from the factory. Let me explain. Most of the offerings today replace the entire radio and dash components to make it “look” factory. The reality is those manufacturers are using a generic box and they adapt it the best they can to your car. The problem is they can’t integrate perfectly because it would cost them too much money to adapt it 100%, thus loosing XM, steering wheel controls etc…. Our approach is different; we use your current factory radio. Yes! The metal box with the tuners and amplifiers of your existing car, we just remove the face of it thus removing only the keypad and the LCD screen only. That leaves the factory flat ribbon cable and the Bluetooth antenna out of the metal box. That ribbon cable is interfaced with a controller module that converts the messages sent and received by the old face and sent now to our Tablet PC. In reality you keep the master component that retains your factory features but they are now going thru a touchscreen interface.

Retain all your factory features such as:

Glad that you got it figured out. I was really tempted to just leave out the Bluelink as well but figured that I would have to tell prospective buyers about it if I sold the car. I was also worried that it would trigger some type of alarm with the car's computer -- Bluelink not working...

I guess you found a 3rd reason. :)

Hi Traveller,

The latest firmware is completed and customers can now choose to boot directly to the radio interface. We also added new features where you will find details under our News thread in our Hyundai-Forums vendor section.

Compass-NAV - Hyundai Forums : Hyundai Forum

Please remember Compass-NAV systems retain all the factory features your car came with. Our level of integration, features and performance still remain the market reference.

Have a good day! :)

Charles

If I recall there was some talk earlier that the firmware was to be updated so that the unit would be able to boot directly to the radio screen.

Does the current firmware allow this?

Does the system work well with the Ipod and are there any android phone apps that allow interaction with Facebook or the internet via bluetooth? I really miss voice commands with my Ford Sync and I'm looking to install a unit that can play a song off the ipod by voice command instead of scrolling through 5500+ songs.

Thanks!

Does the Compass-NAV system have preamp outputs to connect external amplifiers, at least 2 sets, preferrably 3.

Interested

Alright so I joined this forum yesterday just to learn more about this unit and I can say I took a good 3-4 hours reading through all of the posts in this thread and am extremely impressed.

I'm really interested in getting this unit once I can get the money together (cant wait for that 2013 bonus check) but do have a few questions.

Can you confirm the price is still $795?
You mentioned other options were available such as the backup cam, were there any more options besides the backup cam that I can look into?
What kind of payments do you accept (paypal, cc...)?
Are the units for the 2012 Sonata limited (dimension unit) currently stocked or would I have to wait for shipping from Korea?
Is there any chance I could get a copy of the installation instructions before purchasing? I'm really a do it yourself guy and would want to know what I'm getting myself into.

Lastly thanks to Charles and everyone else in this thread for covering everything so thoroughly.:)

Hi Matt and thanks for posting.

This thread has a long history and reflects very well our company progression.
Back in late 2011 we were selling only few units a month but now with the help of our distributors; Compass-NAV standing has changed quite a bit with the addition of few employees, warehouse AND inventory...:)

- The price had gone up a little to $850.00 but we are now including in our price the Paypal fee where before it was an additional charge.

- Sure, we have few more options to offer and I recommend you visit our website Compass Nav - Navigation systems and under the Products / Accessories; you will see our available options with pictures and description. You can also see our videos we have on Youtube KompassNAV - YouTube for better understanding

Systems are configured as per your car model; what you get will work with the provided information.

You don't need to wait for your system to come from Korea as we keep them stock. However for the last two months; customers had to wait because of few distributors pumped completely our inventory but we will be OK for January.

Send be an email at info@compass-nav.com and I will take it from there.

Thanks for your participation!

Have a good day!

Charles

Just another update for my Compassnav for my 2011 Sonata. Had the unit about 1 1/2 yr now ( since it was introduced) and so far its been flawless. (I average 90 miles a day these days) This winter up in Ontario Canada has been extremely harsh and the temp has been as low as -31F windchill...Everytime I start the car, the nav screen powers up with no issues and the touchscreen works as well. So far , I have to say its the best bang for $ I've spent on my car.

Resurrection!

I'm not the type of person to bump myself but very happy to see that there's still a little bit of activity in here after so many years... :)

While I'm here, why not going with some fresh news... :D

Available soon to all current and future Compass-NAV customers we will soon have available our new SMART-NAV technology.

Can't give too much details yet but;

Trace your route, keep your eyes on the road, your hands on the steering wheel and enjoy your multimedias. We will get your attention only when needed to keep you on the right path without your intervention.

More details to come...

Enjoy your Compass-NAV!

Nice in my case even after almost 2 years Im still very happy with my CN-M5 !! proud guinea pig for Charles and his unit in the Sonata !!:D:D

I'm also very happy with my Compass-Nav system. For those of you who aren't familiar, it is basically a tablet that sits in front of the factory radio and is able to control it along with its own software, which includes the excellent IGO navigation software (it is really great, Google 'IPO Primo GPS'). Your passengers would have to be high level Sonata nuts to realize that it isn't a factory install.

So if you aren't using navigation you can just display a touch screen facsimile of the radio controls (with song titles) that has everything the factory install does except that it is bigger and brighter. The one thing that they still need to work on is a 'Fast Scroll' when you hold down the tune button. But everything else is there.

I almost always drive with the navigation on, often with just a map and no directions. Sometimes I punch in a route even when I know where I am going because I like the way that it counts down the distance to the next turn. You can lower the volume on the GPS voice prompts. Whenever there is new information for the radio display (new song, XM announcement, volume change, incoming phone call) it will take over the screen for 5 or 7 seconds and then return to the GPS map. There is a setting that will retain the map and display the radio information in a small box on the bottom but I find that I can almost always do without the map for 7 seconds, especially since the GPS voice directions would still come through.

It also has a nicely integrated backup camera.

Major addition that has improved the enjoyment I get from driving my GLS.

Anyone in the Triangle area of NC do an install or had one done and willing to offer advice/help? I have been calling and emailed Davenport Customs with no response. My system is winging its way to me as I type and I can't wait to have it in. I am kind of handy but my husband is not thrilled with the idea of me doing a self install.

Your center stack design is totally different from the 2011-2013 models. My guess is that this system will work with your car, but it wont be able to be installed due to the different bezel shape.

Now, knowing Charles, he probably has already got something in the works for you 2014 owners.

However, know that Hyundai is going to change the design totally next year (YF model will be retired totally and replaced with the LF model), so don't be surprised if you find the aftermarket options for your 2014 to be limited. The exact same thing happened to owners of the 2010 models.

Proud to say that I am done with my self install. Charlesj123 was a huge help with the installation and helping me locate a blown fuse. Between the great manual and the FaceTime support, I felt very comfortable. Not sure if I am the first female to do this, but I can say it was a good experience. I am happy with my system and even happier with the service.

Congrats arlenan!

You did very well and from our records, the first female self install.

Guys, this girl was charm to work with and I was just there to confirm what she already did was right.

A little glitch happened but she didn't panic and we got back on track pretty easily and quickly.

Good job and have a safe trip!

Time not updating

Hello all, just got my unit installed and am liking all the features. I noticed though that my clock doesn't update unless the navigation software has been started. It doesn't have to be on the navi screen to update; just has to have been started. Do you think this is an install issue? Or could it be a software one? Does anyone else see a similar issue with their unit? Thanks
