Dear Friends,

This week has been a very exceptional one. So many things have happened; I feel that finally the pieces are falling in to place. The last few months were very challenging in every aspect, but the hard work starts to pay off.

During the development of the product, I tried to stick to my deepest value of being as completely transparent and honest as possible. I took on a personal challenge; to bring to market a product of an exceptional value of performance versus price. Like you, I’m tired of paying exaggerated prices to buy what I really need and want. I’m a newborn in the business; however I think I can bring some fresh air where you and I can be in a win-win situation.

In my mind, and from the beginning, I decided to approach the market in a different way. From the beginning I decided that my main goal would be to beat the portable navigation systems at their own game and integrate a class leading comprehensive GPS solution into an integrated media device. I encourage the customers to consider and compare both options (my integrated solution and the off the shelf standalone GPS devices) and buy accordingly to their needs.

The most difficult task was to build the business according to the above ideal by respecting the profit margins of my suppliers. Compass-NAV, as a company, was founded to minimize the overhead and therefore minimize the impact on final price. I’m in a position today where I can certainly say: “Mission completed”. I was able to create a horizontal business structure to eliminate the waste of money. The whole structure sits on the network of people found on this forum. From the manuals creator, the website designer or the “guinea pig”, everything is working cohesively using today’s technology. The most important thing to mention is all of the participants of this thread that have been following me since the beginning, THANK YOU!! If this thread is growing more than ever, it’s all because of you…. Nothing less.

Today, I can certainly declare that we have in our hands a true master piece of mobile entertainment. The CN-M5 raised the bar in this category in Korea and I’m pleased to integrate their technology to our flavor. We won’t stop it here; we have the room to grow bringing even more exciting features.

Now I’m pleased to present the final offering of the CN-M5 integrated navi-tainment system for your Sonata, look for the “EXCLUSIVES” to Compass NAV’s product. No other vendor offers these features!!

Technology:
The reason why it integrates so well with existing factory features is because the foundation IS from the factory. Let me explain. Most of the offerings today replace the entire radio and dash components to make it “look” factory. The reality is those manufacturers are using a generic box and they adapt it the best they can to your car. The problem is they can’t integrate perfectly because it would cost them too much money to adapt it 100%, thus loosing XM, steering wheel controls etc…. Our approach is different; we use your current factory radio. Yes! The metal box with the tuners and amplifiers of your existing car, we just remove the face of it thus removing only the keypad and the LCD screen only. That leaves the factory flat ribbon cable and the Bluetooth antenna out of the metal box. That ribbon cable is interfaced with a controller module that converts the messages sent and received by the old face and sent now to our Tablet PC. In reality you keep the master component that retains your factory features but they are now going thru a touchscreen interface.

FAST,

Something else for you,

Oh by the way, I've seen a many Sonata user that has greatly improved the sound of the system by just replacing the factory speaker by the Polk Audio DB651S. Look around and see. You can also look at Crutchfield for reviews. They don't draw too much power from the factory radio but sounds way different. If you feel you need more base, you can add an 8 inch into the rear deck + an amp and tap on one of your speakers. You can even use the old speakers for bracket, remove the cone and they will fit right in. Just my 2 cents....

wow this is what Ive been looking for a Nav unit for my limited now just to clarify will this unit be available for the limited , and will the camera be included for the rearside view? where is this unit coming from will it be built in the NA continent or from China? also do I need to replace my speakers or will it be ok to have the ones I use? thank you and keep it going~!

Hi Silver,

Thanks for the good words.

1- Yes it will be offered for the limited, in fact maybe sooner than the stardard since the clock and temp is already going thru the radio and the interface is already built.

2- The backup camera will be available as an option but already available. I need to ask the price.

3- Neither, it comes from Korea. They are always ahead of a year on us and they already have the kit for the 2012 Azera... imagine. When it comes to match the factory like, I think they know what they're talking about.

4- You don't have to replace anything if you like, however if you want to benefit of a better sound, you can change them. Both are good, it's your choice.

5- The standard warranty from the manufacturer is 12 months, however I will offer extended warranty.

Thanks,

Charles

I'm assuming the system will be similar to the one in this link? (Minus the DMB TV and Korean maps of course).

http://blog.naver.com/PostThumbnail...ilView.nhn?blogId=sangtaek1977&logNo=80139220863&categoryNo=&parentCategoryNo=2

From what I'm seeing, the stock 1CD radio requires only the faceplate to be removed, and the nav system installs just on top of it.

However, it seems that cars with a 6CD radio have to retain the stock unit (but without the original screen) to function, sacrificing the center multi box compartment as seen in this link:

Charles, can you clarify that your system doesn't require the stock unit to be retained on the 6CD radio, or if I can just just get rid of it altogether (I honestly never put any CD's in mine and doubt I will in the future). Thanks.

Hi Bstar,

Can you do me a favor? Send me a picture of your current layout?

Thanks,

My question would be if you can make the bluetooth streaming function work better in this new setup.

I'd like to be able to control audio from my phone completely from the steering wheel, as well as have track information displayed on the console. It would also be nice if you could manage/switch phones from the steering wheel as well. I have a work phone and a personal phone, and it's a pain to switch between them when I get a call on the one that's not currently connected.

Just some musings I had.

Hi everyone,

Just want to bring you the fresh news!

I sent a couple of weeks ago, a Sonata radio found on Ebay, a real luck. It cost me 300.00$ to ship in Korea ... part of the business isn't it? So guys, for the moment I don't need a radio you can forget my initial request;)

The radio is working as expected with the trip conversion board. This is the electronic board that reads the messages that was sent to the original face plate. The guys reported that they could read all modes including the XM and Bluetooth messages.

Still do to:

1- Approval for legal electronic codes (CE, FCC and IC).
2- Legal aspect to sale the product in Canada and USA.
3- Finalise the deal with the navigation supplier (IGO Primo or EB Street Director)
4- GL & GLS, Redirect the wires and add indicator for passenger air bag and seat belt. (supplier)
5- Open the web site
6- Tape the products video's
7- Put the manuals together
8- Ready... GO!

Will post pictures soon!

Thanks,

Charles

Hi Gents,

I know, I know it's long, thanks for your patience...

Right now the guys in Korea are modifying the software to customize it for North America and also they will put in their latest revision with a cleaner interface. Its progressing slowly but surely.

Please see attached to how the radio interface will look like. The keys layout will be modified a bit to let room for the XM radio.

Also see a retrofit made in Australia. What you see will be very close to what we will have here... at the exception... the steering wheel will be at the opposite

Stay tuned for more updates!

Hi Mr. Dungan.

It may look easy but it's not. As you may not know, my supplier has a supplier for the plastic trim. I asked a couple changes, including this one but he wants to commit for quantities I'm not sure to sell and with a enormous cash down to make a new mold. It's a very competitive market and I will not be able to transfer this cost into the product selling price because it will be way too high.

So what I'm planning to do is to supply into a kit some kind of vinyl film brushed steel like painted the same as the car.

3M 1080 Scotchprint Brushed Metal Vinyl Wrap

Please see it here and let me know what you think. If you have a better idea, please let me know.

Thanks,

Charles

I dont know why you guys just don't pick up a Pioneer avic z-120/130 and call it a day. I would take my old z-110bt pioneer unit any day of the week over the factory navi or even this one being posted. Not bashing the work they are doing but there are better more cost effective choices out there.

.... but there are "better" more "cost effective" choices out there.

I don't know how many times I commented this kind of arguments so far but I would say "FALSE" for both statements. I trust you when you say you don't want to bash the work but if you consider every aspect, it is not a better and cost effective. Here is why:

1- YES, in most case you will have a better sound and better control over it.

2- In all case, if you have XM radio, you have to buy a separate module.

3- You have to wire a separate microphone for the Bluetooth.

4- You have to buy a steering wheel adapter, and in most cases, the phone keys on the steering are not supported.

5- Navigations are not all the same and for most in dash head units, navigation is not the priority, Pioneer is the perfect example it is only good for casual use. Their navigation life cycle is very short since they fail to provide timely map updates and on top of all, they want you to buy their latest. We are choosing cutting edge navigation software where the end user choose to update his maps, more frequently (twice a year) and less expensive.

At the end of the day, both propositions might be equal or less for our solution but we will provide a better navigation at a lesser cost of ownership and lot better integration. Don’t forget, with your solution, someone can always break in your car, not ours. On top of all sound can always be improved a lot even with the factory radio.

Customer always decides what is best for him.

Pioneer decks are fully compatible with pac units, its more so up to the pac unit and not the deck for the commands to work for the steering wheel controls.

I mearly provided information to upgrade the software on the deck. for map updates if you want to be legit and buy the map updates, check ebay. That or go to an authorized pioneer car audio place and they can install the map update for you (done by sd card) In terms of updating maps you state its free for thirty days. who on earth would need such a minor map update? how much do you charge for map upgrdes after wards? is it on par with other name brand after market navi units? Why not just offer a free map update within 1 year? 30 days is a joke. unless this unit is not being pre-loaded with the most recent maps.

ask all the people on the Honda forums about there stolen OEM decks. the stock navi deck in the sonata lists for over 1000 dollars. So if anything having a look alike navi deck in the car would only entice a thief... in terms of damage to your car, thats what insurance is for. just save your receipts when you install aniy after market stuff. upgrades like head units can be insured.

I am just providing additional resources for members on this forum, what they do with the information is completely up to them.
