Dear Friends,

This week has been a very exceptional one. So many things have happened; I feel that finally the pieces are falling in to place. The last few months were very challenging in every aspect, but the hard work starts to pay off.

During the development of the product, I tried to stick to my deepest value of being as completely transparent and honest as possible. I took on a personal challenge; to bring to market a product of an exceptional value of performance versus price. Like you, I’m tired of paying exaggerated prices to buy what I really need and want. I’m a newborn in the business; however I think I can bring some fresh air where you and I can be in a win-win situation.

In my mind, and from the beginning, I decided to approach the market in a different way. From the beginning I decided that my main goal would be to beat the portable navigation systems at their own game and integrate a class leading comprehensive GPS solution into an integrated media device. I encourage the customers to consider and compare both options (my integrated solution and the off the shelf standalone GPS devices) and buy accordingly to their needs.

The most difficult task was to build the business according to the above ideal by respecting the profit margins of my suppliers. Compass-NAV, as a company, was founded to minimize the overhead and therefore minimize the impact on final price. I’m in a position today where I can certainly say: “Mission completed”. I was able to create a horizontal business structure to eliminate the waste of money. The whole structure sits on the network of people found on this forum. From the manuals creator, the website designer or the “guinea pig”, everything is working cohesively using today’s technology. The most important thing to mention is all of the participants of this thread that have been following me since the beginning, THANK YOU!! If this thread is growing more than ever, it’s all because of you…. Nothing less.

Today, I can certainly declare that we have in our hands a true master piece of mobile entertainment. The CN-M5 raised the bar in this category in Korea and I’m pleased to integrate their technology to our flavor. We won’t stop it here; we have the room to grow bringing even more exciting features.

Now I’m pleased to present the final offering of the CN-M5 integrated navi-tainment system for your Sonata, look for the “EXCLUSIVES” to Compass NAV’s product. No other vendor offers these features!!

Technology:
The reason why it integrates so well with existing factory features is because the foundation IS from the factory. Let me explain. Most of the offerings today replace the entire radio and dash components to make it “look” factory. The reality is those manufacturers are using a generic box and they adapt it the best they can to your car. The problem is they can’t integrate perfectly because it would cost them too much money to adapt it 100%, thus loosing XM, steering wheel controls etc…. Our approach is different; we use your current factory radio. Yes! The metal box with the tuners and amplifiers of your existing car, we just remove the face of it thus removing only the keypad and the LCD screen only. That leaves the factory flat ribbon cable and the Bluetooth antenna out of the metal box. That ribbon cable is interfaced with a controller module that converts the messages sent and received by the old face and sent now to our Tablet PC. In reality you keep the master component that retains your factory features but they are now going thru a touchscreen interface.

Retain all your factory features such as:

Almost Done!

Friends,

We're almost done with the new layout and before I'm getting hammered with the obvious things, here's what we will rework:

- Remove the Compass-NAV logo
- TIMER seconds will be horizontal with TIMER above.
- Rework the knobs contours (I hate the circles)
- Highlight the SONATA logo even more...

My personal appreciation is; this new interface is very clean, functional and not too clustered.

Oh! The clock will be AM/PM only and temperature user selectable from F to C

Have a good day!

Ah! Good question funkemaster :)

The "Q" is the Quick Menu to access to other device functions like MP3, Video, Navi, etc.. You aleready have this Shortcut in other screens but the TRIP interface was missing. Right now you have the "BACK" key that brings you back to the previous screen you were in. With this new layout, you can go everywhere in only 2 clicks.

Thanks!

Charles, since you are working on new interface, is it possible to dim the start up screen or make the back ground on start up a little more of a neutral or softer color?

I bring this up just because during start up at night, the screen is quite bright and I find myself looking for my sun glasses :).

Thanks!

Sure!

I got that request from other customers and we will do it, super easy.

BTW, I would like to mention, and very happy to do it, that our new skin designs are made locally by Suzanne, a good friend of mine and graphic designer.

I asked Suzanne to keep things simple and streamlined however, like we are doing from the beginning folks, feel free to chime in with Yea or Nay.

Have a good day everyone!

Charles

For those of you that have installed a different camera and trunk mount then that what comes from compassnav:

Metra TE-SSC Third Eye 170 Degree Viewing Angle Small Square Mountable Backup Camera
LICENSE PLATE + INTERIOR LAMP. Fits: Hyundai | Jim Ellis Hyundai Parts
Part # = #925203S030

First how does the trunk panel compare to the stock one in terms of quality and appearance?

Also how easy was the install with the other camera you decided to go with? And how is the quality of that camera (including day and night)?

What did you use to fully seal the camera in the spot? Weather stripping or silicon or what??

Lastly overall how happy are you with this camera and panel vs the one the compass nav would come with?

And any Idea on longevity of the camera?

And how satisfied with the system are you in general?

I don't have the backup camera but I do have the system installed. I was one of the first people on here to be skeptical of this system before it came out. I will tell you though now that I have had it for a couple of months it blows the factory hyundai nav away that I had in my other 2012 sonata. The response time, load time, quality of the screen, and most importantly the support from Charles has been superb. If the the camera is the only thing stopping you from buying this right now your missing out. I am telling you hands down the best nav unit I have ever owned.

Charles,

Is there a video output to send something to seatback display units? Ideally, and I understand this is a challenge, with a dual zone to send media to rear units while keeping GPS visual up front... If not a dual zone then at least output to aux screens?

I have read through this thread and the development. Charles seems to have been very responsive to recommendations and has produced an amazing product as far as I can tell. I would almost buy and install this just for the resell of the car.

Thanks,
Keith

Hi Keith

Thanks for posting. Sure, our device has a rear seats video output and dual zone capable as standard. It will play videos to the rear seats simultaneouly with the nav in the front screen.

If ever you decide to buy it, give yourself a little fun before selling the car.... ;)

Truly yours,

I just wanted to chime in with my experience with Charles and my unit in my Sonata. I've had this unit since July and all I can *still* say is wow with no regrets. It has been super stable with no lags or crashes. And I do drive quite often (4000km per month). The fit and finish is as tight as it can be with no gaps or squeeks. Thanks again Charles.

And I can say as the oldest sonata ever made by Charles that I still find my CN-M5 perfect in every way possible!! in the coldest temp here in quebec ( it can get much worse than in the south were most of the forum lives and not as hot in the summer but still pretty hot) the unit as exceed all my expectation!!! really Charles your unit rock!!! in every way possible!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D

Hi Kyle,

Our manuals went over 3 major revisions in the past year and mostly because of customers feedback. The way it is now, you can't really go wrong... I think.

If you run into issues, you can count on me.

Happy new year!

Thanks for the reply, I welcome all others.

Also, I should be receiving my unit from Charles soon, is anyone else planning in doing an install soon?

Any suggestions from any DIYers out there?

Thanks all!

If your system is set to have the TRIP screen in MINI mode,

When a call comes in, the mini trip window will pop-up over the nav screen (at the bottom) automatically few seconds showing the caller ID then will hide by itself.

User don't need to do anything.

Regards,

What happens when you have the nav screen up and you get a phone call?

Does it automatically show the caller ID info or do you have to do something?
