Dear Friends,

This week has been a very exceptional one. So many things have happened; I feel that finally the pieces are falling in to place. The last few months were very challenging in every aspect, but the hard work starts to pay off.

During the development of the product, I tried to stick to my deepest value of being as completely transparent and honest as possible. I took on a personal challenge; to bring to market a product of an exceptional value of performance versus price. Like you, I’m tired of paying exaggerated prices to buy what I really need and want. I’m a newborn in the business; however I think I can bring some fresh air where you and I can be in a win-win situation.

In my mind, and from the beginning, I decided to approach the market in a different way. From the beginning I decided that my main goal would be to beat the portable navigation systems at their own game and integrate a class leading comprehensive GPS solution into an integrated media device. I encourage the customers to consider and compare both options (my integrated solution and the off the shelf standalone GPS devices) and buy accordingly to their needs.

The most difficult task was to build the business according to the above ideal by respecting the profit margins of my suppliers. Compass-NAV, as a company, was founded to minimize the overhead and therefore minimize the impact on final price. I’m in a position today where I can certainly say: “Mission completed”. I was able to create a horizontal business structure to eliminate the waste of money. The whole structure sits on the network of people found on this forum. From the manuals creator, the website designer or the “guinea pig”, everything is working cohesively using today’s technology. The most important thing to mention is all of the participants of this thread that have been following me since the beginning, THANK YOU!! If this thread is growing more than ever, it’s all because of you…. Nothing less.

Today, I can certainly declare that we have in our hands a true master piece of mobile entertainment. The CN-M5 raised the bar in this category in Korea and I’m pleased to integrate their technology to our flavor. We won’t stop it here; we have the room to grow bringing even more exciting features.

Now I’m pleased to present the final offering of the CN-M5 integrated navi-tainment system for your Sonata, look for the “EXCLUSIVES” to Compass NAV’s product. No other vendor offers these features!!

Technology:
The reason why it integrates so well with existing factory features is because the foundation IS from the factory. Let me explain. Most of the offerings today replace the entire radio and dash components to make it “look” factory. The reality is those manufacturers are using a generic box and they adapt it the best they can to your car. The problem is they can’t integrate perfectly because it would cost them too much money to adapt it 100%, thus loosing XM, steering wheel controls etc…. Our approach is different; we use your current factory radio. Yes! The metal box with the tuners and amplifiers of your existing car, we just remove the face of it thus removing only the keypad and the LCD screen only. That leaves the factory flat ribbon cable and the Bluetooth antenna out of the metal box. That ribbon cable is interfaced with a controller module that converts the messages sent and received by the old face and sent now to our Tablet PC. In reality you keep the master component that retains your factory features but they are now going thru a touchscreen interface.

More Questions

--Can the USB/SD card box be located anywhere else than the multi-box underneath the radio? (I keep a ton of stuff in there so I don't have room for it)

--When playing the iPod through the factory USB interface, will the trip screen pop up and show information or does the screen also show the information from the iPod? (I personally hate the factory screen and would love to have all of that information come up through the screen's interface)

--Any plans to add a way to tether a smartphone to the unit? This would open up the ability to use apps like Pandora, Slacker, etc as well as use Google searches or Google maps right from the unit!

--Can we opt for the different finishes when we order the product? (I have an SE but I love the piano black)

Ok so I have a lot of questions and I am sure that you dont have all of the answers just yet. But consider some of these things for a future firmware release. This would ensure that your product stays fresh, and it would make our cars that much cooler than what we are getting from the factory (Bluelink and factory nav would not come close)!

Hi Adogg,

That's funny, I like you add :D

See below!

Thanks,

Charles

Charles,

First off--This setup looks SICK!!! Hyundai should be contacting you to do their factory NAV systems. I am so glad that I did not give in to getting nav at purchase just to get my sunroof. Seriously that's funny because I was ask couple of times if my system would be able to retrofit factory Hyundai navigation. I' will look if t's technically possible.

That being said, I have a couple of questions for you.
--Having had iGo before on WinMobile and having it now on my Android smartphone, I have never been able to get it to announce street names on the voice prompt. On your device, does it actually say the street names or does it just say "Turn in 20 feet"? Yes with the TTS Pro that I purchased as an option.
--I noticed that in the iGo software that the POI screen displays all information (addresses, phone numbers, etc). Would it be possible (maybe in a future firmware release) to be able to tap on the phone number and make it dial out from the radio. In essence we would be able to call directly from the iGo screen though the factory bluetooth!
Yes however it wouldn't be linked to the steering wheel or partially. Remember we use the factory radio and the logic of it is not linked with our device

--I am glad to see the traffic data being passed into the iGo software. The question I have is for us here in the USA, traffic is provided via the FM radio band and comes in as data stream along with the music. Last I tried to do this with iGo it went through a subscription based service provided by Clearchannel Communications. Does your device already have this subscription built-in? If not, do we need to subscribe and do you have pricing for traffic plans? in a nutshell you buy the hardaware from me where it is a dedicated RDS TMS tuner and you buy the yearly subscription form Naviextras, I think it's around 20$

--Can the USB/SD card box be located anywhere else than the multi-box underneath the radio? (I keep a ton of stuff in there so I don't have room for it) Where you want it as long the location is within the cable lenght
--When playing the iPod through the factory USB interface, will the trip screen pop up and show information or does the screen also show the information from the iPod? (I personally hate the factory screen and would love to have all of that information come up through the screen's interface) I didn't tried it but I can ask Cypher009 to take snapshots.

--Any plans to add a way to tether a smartphone to the unit? This would open up the ability to use apps like Pandora, Slacker, etc as well as use Google searches or Google maps right from the unit! Don't push me to talk too much. Rememer in my letter i said that "I left some room for future enhancements"

--Can we opt for the different finishes when we order the product? (I have an SE but I love the piano black) Yes

Well almost a week now that we did the install and it is pure fun!!

the interaction between the factory radio and the touch screen is really something! the trip screen was made to look the same as your factory radio was, you see that this is made for a sonata!!

even if I don't have the final final software I find it very stable swithing between the different screen goes smooth, almost everyone I showed this asked me if they could get one but they can't at least for now because we are the lucky ones that drive new hyundai!!!:D

and I must say something Charles didn't pay me to post positive comments I'm here in front of my screen wandering if there is anything negative to say but can't find anything...

Hope you like these little revews because im trying to let you know what are my impression about this product!!:)

It does look good :) I was interested in the backup camera also, but doesn't in interfere a little with the trunk release switch? I might have to make a stop ay my Hyundai dealer and take a closer look at the OEM installation of the camera. I never bothered looking when I bought my car, because at the time, I wasn't interested in it.

Can you post a close up photo of the BU camera, or a few of it's installation? Also, how complicated is it to run the necessary wire for the BU camera?

Flame,

You can install the backup camera anywhere on the plastic. You have a lot of space beside the licence plate ligths. The camera just measure 3/4 x 3/4.

Hi Flame,

Sorry for the misunderstanding, actually we transfer your controls to the new bezel.

Thanks,

Charles

Thanks Charles, for the quick reply and photos. When you say the replacement bezel also contains the ac controls, will the new one look like your photos of your installed unit, with 4 buttons for controls, or will I retain the 8 buttons I currently have? (as seen in my previous photo)
