Dear Friends,

This week has been a very exceptional one. So many things have happened; I feel that finally the pieces are falling in to place. The last few months were very challenging in every aspect, but the hard work starts to pay off.

During the development of the product, I tried to stick to my deepest value of being as completely transparent and honest as possible. I took on a personal challenge; to bring to market a product of an exceptional value of performance versus price. Like you, I’m tired of paying exaggerated prices to buy what I really need and want. I’m a newborn in the business; however I think I can bring some fresh air where you and I can be in a win-win situation.

In my mind, and from the beginning, I decided to approach the market in a different way. From the beginning I decided that my main goal would be to beat the portable navigation systems at their own game and integrate a class leading comprehensive GPS solution into an integrated media device. I encourage the customers to consider and compare both options (my integrated solution and the off the shelf standalone GPS devices) and buy accordingly to their needs.

The most difficult task was to build the business according to the above ideal by respecting the profit margins of my suppliers. Compass-NAV, as a company, was founded to minimize the overhead and therefore minimize the impact on final price. I’m in a position today where I can certainly say: “Mission completed”. I was able to create a horizontal business structure to eliminate the waste of money. The whole structure sits on the network of people found on this forum. From the manuals creator, the website designer or the “guinea pig”, everything is working cohesively using today’s technology. The most important thing to mention is all of the participants of this thread that have been following me since the beginning, THANK YOU!! If this thread is growing more than ever, it’s all because of you…. Nothing less.

Today, I can certainly declare that we have in our hands a true master piece of mobile entertainment. The CN-M5 raised the bar in this category in Korea and I’m pleased to integrate their technology to our flavor. We won’t stop it here; we have the room to grow bringing even more exciting features.

Now I’m pleased to present the final offering of the CN-M5 integrated navi-tainment system for your Sonata, look for the “EXCLUSIVES” to Compass NAV’s product. No other vendor offers these features!!

Technology:
The reason why it integrates so well with existing factory features is because the foundation IS from the factory. Let me explain. Most of the offerings today replace the entire radio and dash components to make it “look” factory. The reality is those manufacturers are using a generic box and they adapt it the best they can to your car. The problem is they can’t integrate perfectly because it would cost them too much money to adapt it 100%, thus loosing XM, steering wheel controls etc…. Our approach is different; we use your current factory radio. Yes! The metal box with the tuners and amplifiers of your existing car, we just remove the face of it thus removing only the keypad and the LCD screen only. That leaves the factory flat ribbon cable and the Bluetooth antenna out of the metal box. That ribbon cable is interfaced with a controller module that converts the messages sent and received by the old face and sent now to our Tablet PC. In reality you keep the master component that retains your factory features but they are now going thru a touchscreen interface.

I dont know if those are actual photos or suppose to be what it will look like but it looks good. Some things to think about are that the 2012's have bluelink and would be nice if that could also somehow be incorporated and not lost. Also the steering wheel controls.

What is the price suppose to be like and is this something that would need to be installed by a shop or dealership or could it be installed by the owner relatively easily?

I would have just given you my old radio cause I had a car totalled but I dont have it anymore. I would check a salvage yard, especially one that auctions totalled cars from insurance companies because they will auction off and sell the parts off of it to you.

Hello Chuck,

Thanks for your interest. Yes, this is the actual picture of the system. Don't worry, all factory features will be kept. In fact, we retrofit your factory radio with a touch screen computer bezel. All the features you already had are kept and accessible thru the touch screen or harware keys.

We can add other features like navigation and multimedia because the new front bezel is not only a touch screen, its also a high power Windows CE device. ( I will post later the harware specs.)

See attached picture, you will see how it's made. You can easily put the new radio by yourself.

If any other questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks,

Charles

I like the idea behind this but heres the problem I have. If I keep the factory head unit and I am just changing out the display I still have the unpowered stock head unit. Its just like putting spinners on a civic its still a civic. I would rather spend a couple hundred more and get a better head unit. Now I was able to find a replacement head unit that will be coming out basically looks like this but just has more power.
http://rosendealercentral.com/nav/Hyundai%20Sonata%20System%20Only.bmp

TRAILDUTY.COM said they would have these for 900.00 and 149.99 for xm kit starting next month.

I wasnt trying to thead hijack but just wanted to let everyone know the other options instead of starting another thread.

Hello FAST,

I appreciate your comments. You are absolutely right, changing the face place to a computer touch screen will not improve the sound performance of the factory radio, you are correct.

However, it depends on your priorities. If high quality sound and power is your top priority, then, you are correct, you should put your money in something else but not where you might think.

Those fully integrated OEM like will disappoint you as far the sound quality. I am positive, 90% of those aftermarkets OEM like are made in China and the quality of the components, sound processors and printed circuits are way out of the sound quality you can expect. Their way of measuring the output power is measured within their own standards and most does not meet with CEA-2006 compliancy. If you want to be ensured to have good sound quality, then I would suggest to you to stay within the popular brands like Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine… to name a few.

Also, if you want to retain the factory features you had like XM, Bluetooth, steering wheel, then you have to ditch a couple of hundreds for those accessories. On top of all, if you want to add navigation, well a few more hundreds. At the end, based on my little 25 years in the 12 volts industry, you might end up somewhere at 1,500$ at least… this is a little more than “couple hundred”

My point is if you are happy with the performance of your radio, you don’t like a wire spaghetti in your car, you don’t want to mess with your car wires and you would like to keep everything you already have plus a little more extras then a think our solution is a nice fit OEM like that will keep theft away.

Remember, you keep all you already have and you add navigation and little more multimedia capability.

Hope that helps!

Thanks,

Charles

N.B. in case you ask, what we’re about to release is a supplier of a very popular car manufacturer in Korea, can’t say more…

Well it is very interesting!! Keeping all factory option was a big point for me and that solution is something that I would buy!! But if we could get a range of price it would be great that way I could start saving my money!! And by the way is it going to be available in Canada (Quebec) ???

#12 · (Edited)
Thanks guys for your interrest,

Well good news, I'm from Canada... Quebec... close to Montreal and the company will be based here. But the product will be made for the whole North American market. US customers are more than welcome.

To make it successful, I would need a radio to start the developpement and testing.

I need your help guys.

Thanks,

Charles

PS Sorry guys, I will get back to you soon with a budgetary pricing, hopefully before the end of the week.

#15 ·
Hi Ayinxx,

Sorry, I am misleading you. The product currently exists and working on the market for several years, just not in North America. There are specific things that need to be implemented and tested used only in our countries; XM broadcast is a good example. Also some products might work well in warm weather but we want to test it under severe conditions.

We do not want to sell crap to the market; we want to penetrate it with proven and reliable technology, that's it! :)

Charles

#14 ·
Hey well I'm reel close to Montreal too!! I would like to help but in the mean time I need my radio but we could meet maybe to talk about it!!

#18 ·
Like I said if I'm wrong about this I will apologize, but in all the forums I post in I have never seen a post like this. If this even turns out to be good I might even be in on the buy but this would have to be so competitively priced compared to whats coming out on the market or whats on the market. All the systems coming out for the sonata allow you to keep all your features including blue link and their starting off at 699.99 and that's for the full system. Your system will still require a separate DVD source. Other than hooking in a game system is there anyone still making decent in car DVD players? I thought those were a thing of the past. Keep us posted on prices and we all would like to see a video demo.

#21 ·
I'm more interested in the climate control side of things. I find my non nav system to be adequate but I really regret missing out on automatic climate control, I hate fiddling around with the base one because it gets too cold or hot without any good in-betweens.

any word on when that will be made? I mean if you're going through the trouble of replacing the WHOLE headunit, why not stick that in too

As promissed

Dear gents,

As promised, please find below more details about our new touch screen control interface computer and navigation. Please pay attention to the attached pictures, they provide information on our user interface.

We really tried hard to keep the whole thing as if it was from the factory also make the whole UI to be intuitive because we take seriously your safety.

Please have a look at the attached SPECIFICATION picture and see below what is specific to the Sonata YF. Also, please see the other pictures of some other views.

- 8 inch LCD touch screen.
- IGO Primo 2.0 Navigation software. with 3D landmark, Legal licence
- Customizable Home screen and colors.
- Best in class Sirf Prima 900 Mhz CPU, 3D, video acceleration.

As we mention earlier, all your factory features will be kept as they were originally, no extra wire to add or remove.

As for the pricing, we will try very hard to keep it under the 700.00$ bar. We choose top of the line and recognized components hardware to make sure it will be reliable and safe for a long time.

We currently don't have a date as of when it will be available since we have to implement it for the North American market (XW, Blue link), but we working hard to make it happen very soon.

If any questions, feel free to ask!

Thanks again for your interest.

Regards,

Charles

A few things looking at the pictures. The shroud shows the cd insert will be moved up higher towards the top of the dash. Will there be brackets provided to move the factory radio up to the higher cd insert slot? The bezel doesn't look like it has the air bag spot on the right side where the current sonata with nav has it to show the air bag is on or off? Will there be an option where you can purchase the DVD player from your source or will we have to source this separately? Where does the memory card go in for the navigation software and or how is it updated? Since most of us on here are looking to purchase a new system in the next 1-3 months are we talking within this time frame or longer.

I'm confused. Is this unit meant to replace a Sonata that already has nav? I thought it was for non-nav YF's. Seems like if you already paid $$$ for the factory nav, that this would be... you know where I'm going with this.

#35 ·
Yeah this is just to replace the front face of the non nav unit. Its non even a complete unit swap out. Its for the average user who wants the nav side of it and gives them option of hooking up a external DVD player. The problem im starting to see with this is mainly the price
quoting" trying to keep it under 700" Rosen is releasing an all in one unit for 900.00 that has DVD, nav, blue tooth and all the other goodies that we want. I spoke to Rosen yesterday to confirm their unit works with blue link and retains all factory buttons and usb and aux ports. They said the only things their units will not retain which no aftermarket unit will retain is the factory microphone in the headliner and the voice activation button. Now this unit that Charles is trying to get going will retain these feature because it doesn't replace the whole unit just the face plate. The unit Charles is trying to get going will be great for the average user but for trying to keep it under 700.00 plus you still have to add in the cost of an external DVD player, and if you want better sound as most of us do the cost of adding a small amp to the factory speakers to boost power up a little. your well over 1000.00.

update

Hi guys,

Please let me answer the latest questions/comments.

1- Thank you very much FAST for the air bag indicator, I will report it to the factory.

2- I have to look but I'm almost affirmative that brackets are not needed to raise the radio. I will confirm but, I'm positive, the holes are already there.

3- Our solution is intended to upscale the non-nav factory radio to navigation capable and multimedia, keeping as much as possible factory like aspect and functionality.

4- Since we keep the factory audio body, DVD playback is not possible from the built-in slot. However, a less cumbersome way to play movies is available from our Movies folder where we support most of the popular formats. Another way is to plug in a portable DVD player or Blueray which is available today for around 70.00$ or less. More for the Blueray of course! IMPORTANT! For security reasons, playback of any videos will be blocked for the main screen but available for the rear monitors.

5- Just under the middle control knob (see attached) you have a little tab that you can pull, this is where you have your spare SD slot, USB, Aux

6- Another SD card will stay permanently into the main brain module where it holds the navigation software and maps. You will be able to update your maps thru IGO NaviExtras toolbox having your supplied NAV SD card into your computer card reader.

Now About Rosen

Please let me rectify certain things:

1- Nowhere, it describes in detail the components used or hardware specifications. How do we know they use top components that are more expensive? Usually, if it's not there, it's because they don't want you to see it.

2- You have to buy a SIRIUS module and you are dropping your current XM subscription.

3- You are dropping the steering wheel Voice Dialing key, a convenient way to keep in touch with the people you love while keeping your eyes on the road.

4- Nowhere, it is promised that you will have a better sound than the factory. Boosting the wattage also boost the distortion.

5- A DVD player is unsafe for the driver, Period! If it's for the kids then you have to put an overhead screen or head rest monitors. I think you can get a very nice portable DVD player for the price of one or the other.

6- Posted on Venza.org 08/20/2011. "Beware of the Rosen Nav unit. I am from the aftermarket audio/video business. The Rosen unit has more software problems than China has rice! The Rosen units we installed as a company had to almost all be removed. I have not done the Toyota unit, but they are all the same basic chassis. Lock-up problems, audio issues, map freezes while driving, etc. The factory unit is more $$$, but works considerably better."

7- Do yourself a favor and read the reviews about different Rosen systems at Crutchfield.

FAST, I kindly asking you to report things the way they are. Please compare apples with apples a make fair comparisons. Again you are promoting bad things we may have, thus we admit that we are not perfect, however you are hiding bad things about what others have.

All cars have 4 wheels, seats, roof etc... They don't drive the same, some are more comfortable than other, and others are more secure. If you are that much convinced, then, go and buy a Rosen, what can I say!

:beathorse:

One last word, I still appreciate your constructive coments FAST!

Charles don't get me wrong I am one who is looking at your system to possibly purchase one. I my self have never heard of Rosen, but I have never been in the market for a factory look navigation. Only thing I am trying to do is help people in the same position I am in trying to find the best one to fit my needs. All we know is your a member on here trying to sell us some product. As we know there are thousands of people trying to sell snake oil on forums all day long. Don't take any of this the wrong way I just don't want to give a 1000.00 of my money away for some piece of crap product. Now for some more questions.

1 Will we have the option to bypass the video in motion block for the front with the parking brake ground? My wife would like to watch a movie.

2 When using the navigation will you be able to input while the vehicle is in motion?

3 what formats of video is recognized by the video player in this system?

4 what is the max sd card this will recognize?

5 how much will it cost for map upgrades?

If the unit keeps the stock HU and just changes the face, will the stock unit need to be moved up or how will that work, as is our CD slot is in the middle of the screen. I am very intrested in this, I just want to make sure every thing works.

I used an off site hosting service, ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting to host the picture.

I looked some pictures online, and all the non-nav HU's have the CD slot there, the nav units are at the very top.

There are 2 non-nav radios on the Sonata. The one I posted above is the single disk unit, and is in the GLS and SE model, it has the clock temperature and passenger airbag lights mounted in the top. The one you are talking about is the 6 disc unit, and I think it is only in the limited models, and us pictured below.

Charles that's why in an earlier post I pointed out that the your picture didn't show a spot for my air bag light to go into. I have a 2012 se non nav. So what it looks like is that they will have to produce 2 different bezels one for picture you posted and one for like mine that will need the air bag light indicator on the right hand side of the bezel facing the passenger.

#54 ·
I just read through this entire thread hoping I would find what I am looking for but unfortunetly I did not.

I own a 2012 Sonata GLS with the stock radio.

I would like to put a tv screen (DVD, Back up cam, Navi, and prob hook up my old little ps2 and put it in the glove compartment) So to do this I need it to have multiple outputs.

It sounds like what Charles is offering would be a good match but I dont want to wait 3 months and I have a feeling it will end up taking longer than that anyways.

If anyone bought an after market unit like this please let me know where to look to find one.

I would like to keep the steering wheel funtionality and the headliner microphone but if the microphone has to go then so be it.

Also having the screen play movies or my ps2 while driving is a must.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
