I'd have my car checked if I were you...it's been under that snowbank for some time now.

I bet I know what it's for...the sub-frames under the car. My front subframe was showing rusting pretty bad so I coated it with hydraulic oil every chance I get. The rear looks OK, so I just sprayed it with hydraulic oil, and sprayed inside the tubes the wheels are attached to.

I've been meaning to get the front checked to make sure it's OK. Guess I better open the letter I got from Hyundai yesterday...

Oh, BTW, the underbody, rocker panels, door and hatch bottoms, fenders and rear wheel wells have a nice, thick coating of hydraulic oil encrusted with fine dust from a nearby sand pit...:D

Here's what it says. I wonder if they fix fender rust?

ACCENT UNDERBODY CORROSION
SERVICE CAMPAIGN

Your Vehicle is affected.

Hyundai is conducting a service campaign to apply rust-proofing materials to the front and rear underbody on certain model year 2008 – 2009 Hyundai Accent vehicles. This campaign affects such vehicles registered in and operated in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

During winter months, large quantities of salt are used to de-ice roads in the Salt Belt states, noted above. Road salt and water can enter portions of the underbody leading to corrosion.

What will Hyundai do?

Your Hyundai dealer will treat the underbody with rust-proofing material to arrest the corrosion process. This will be performed at no cost to you. The actual time required to perform the procedure should be approximately one hour, however, your vehicle may be needed for a longer period of time depending on the dealer’s schedule; therefore, we recommend scheduling a service appointment to minimize inconvenience. To schedule an appointment with your preferred Hyundai Dealer, please enter your zip code below.

Got my recall notice today. Since I use the car under "severe" conditions (climbing mountains in Vermont), and that I changed the instrument panel to gain a temp gauge that was ~3,000 miles less than mint, when I hit 110,000 miles in a few weeks I'm bringing it in for a slightly early timing belt change (the alternator belt is starting to squeal at startup on cold days, too) I'l have it sprayed with Cosmoline (or whatever it is) then.

I've already sprayed the subframes with hydraulic oil twice.

Dream on. They think us Canadians are idiots. Our warranty was I believe in 09 100,000 klm warranty. The USA ones are longer and better. Because they sell the same friggen car across the boarder they decide to lower our warranty.

I guess Hyundai increased their warranty to 5 years unlimited. 10 years in the usa unless i'm reading it wrong

Another round of aged cars for yellow wax and black under coat in a can .. and they bring it out again when it starting to snow and ice.. then they show up covered in crap and dripping to wait in lounge for spray..

Do you paint your house when it snow or rain, covered in frozen stuff ?

Done (2) Accent today, and the weld lines on front frame all chunky orange/yellow rust,, watch the applied coating fall off with the rust that falling off..

Yeah that's kind of my gut feeling on this. It's winter. Doubtful that they plan to thoroughly wash and dry the underbody after I drop off the car prior to treatment. And the car is already 8 years old! This type of preventive maint. is too late at this point. I don't think I'll even bother to take my car in, especially since it's winter and the dealer is an hour away.

I had to get my gas tank fender part the edge lip cut and folded and sealed and painted. It cost me 450 bucks 1 year 1/2 ago. Started out as spots of rust and bubbling in the paint just behind the rear drivers side door above the tire. After taking it down to metal it was rusted through. I think it was caused by the gas overflowing on the panel when my wife use to overfill it tell I told her to stop. She always liked to round off to the nearest cent when getting gas. Or I could blame it on the cheap metal in this car from Hyundai. The odd thing is the other side is perfectly fine thus my insight on the gas overflow eating away at the clear and paint.
